They could do it like Walgreens does with their member rewards card. You can add it to Apple Pay, so then you select it first, and wave it by the reader to input your member rewards number, then you switch to your credit card to pay. I can never get it to work right though. I start Apple pay, choose my member rewards card, scan it, and then the reader sits there trying to look me up and eventually times out. Not sure if it is something with my phone/card or their reader/programming. Anyone else around here get it to work right at Walgreens?

I just noticed today that my local Taco Bell had Verifone mx915 payment terminals that were just installed (didn't seem functional yet)...seeing as fellow Yum Brand KFC is getting Apple Pay support, it might be worth keeping an eye on...

You're probably right. Their app already takes AP as of April so while unlikely, I have my fingers crossed.

Chik-Fil-A will be accepting Apple Pay at all restaurants by the end of the year, and it is indeed NFC-based, not app-based:

http://inside.chick-fil-a.com/apple-pay-coming-to-chick-fil-a/

Chick-fil-A announced today the national rollout of Apple Pay, which will provide customers added convenience with an easy, secure and private way to pay. Apple Pay will be introduced in a gradual rollout to each Chick-fil-A Restaurant and will be available chain-wide by late 2016. Apple Pay is available in addition to Chick-fil-A’s own Mobile Pay technology, which is accessible via the Chick-fil-A app.

Security and privacy is at the core of Apple Pay. When you add a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on your device. Each transaction is authorized with a one-time unique dynamic security code.

“Chick-fil-A is focused on using technology to provide convenient ways for guests to interact with our restaurants,” said Chick-fil-A Senior Manager of Digital Experience Michael Lage. “The rollout of Apple Pay is an exciting new opportunity for Chick-fil-A to continue that focus.”

So recently Ace Hardware has rolled out EMV and contactless. So has KFC enabled it too and I even went to a KFC/Taco Bell combo who supports contactless as well and they have Samsung, Apple, and Android Pay stickers on the front of the register. Autozone looks to be supporting it as well but I have not visited a location yet. For the Chick Fil A fans they are apparently going to roll out NFC much more widely starting next month.

Wait, KFC has EMV? I thought they only enabled contactless.

I meant contactless only for KFC but EMV could be easily deployed. From Steak N Shake's site:
. Are you supporting Apple Pay, Android Pay and Samsung Pay?

A.
We currently support Apple Pay to easily set-up and load funds into your account using the debit/credit card you have linked to your Apple Pay account. We are currently deploying new secure payment terminals to all stores so as to allow guest to pay with NFC-enabled phones. We are also working on integrating Apple Pay and Android Pay to streamline payments and ensure you receive your rewards. We plan to complete this integration later this year.
Very cool!

Has anybody had problems using Apple Pay at Casey's General Store lately? They enabled it chain wide earlier this year and all of the stores have Apple Pay logos at them, but probably about three months ago, it stopped working for me. I touch my phone or watch to the reader, it beeps funny and the clerk has to reset the transaction -- it's like a bad credit card read.

I would contact them via twitter or something, it works perfectly fine here, also try another location and see how it works. They did turn it off for some reason for a week or two but they fixed it and its working fine now.

I've only had trouble with it once or twice, and I've used it multiple times per week since they enabled it. The few times I had trouble I noticed that the blue lights of the top of the credit card machine quit flashing and one one of them was lit, or none of them. It was like the machine locked up. The cashier just had to hit a button and then we tried again. I think it worked the second time, but I might have ended up having to swipe my actual card.

I haven't had this problem in weeks though, and I used Apple Pay there on the 3rd, 5th, 8th, and 11th of this month already.

I was at an AutoZone earlier in the day, seems they've got NFC going.

I was surprised to see the NFC "tap" symbol and the readers now say "Swipe, insert, or tap".

Tweeted them, will see what they say.

Has anybody had luck at a US Tim Hortons? They use the same readers here as they do across the border in Canada, yet the NFC seems to only work in Canada and not the US.

Wish Kroger would get the ball rolling...

AutoZone is of course on purpose and don't forget to try KFC and Ace Hardware if you have either of those near you as both accept NFC now. Ace Hardware accepts EMV as well but KFC does not yet.

Just a follow up - it appears to only be one particular card, my debit card. Works fine with all of my credit cards.

So yeah recently Ace Hardware, KFC, AutoZone and now Chick-Fil-A has all added contactless payments locally! Not all KFC does it yet but many do as I went to a KFC/LJS which is mostly the former as it said KFC on the pinpads but NFC is off at this time. For anyone near Stop And Shop with EMV enabled the chances are that NFC was enabled as well: http://i.imgur.com/bSpkTsN.jpg

Stopped by AutoZone today and the guy there has apparently seen enough usage to comment something along the lines of: "I like when people use their phones to pay - most of the time they know what they're doing, it's quicker than chip, and I don't have to hear the complaints about how long chips take!" A lot of NFC-capable places around me still act like it's a new, suspicious technology that nobody uses, so I was a bit surprised since AutoZone is new (good for them, though!)

Younger cashiers tend to like it more than older ones, it seems. No idea how old that guy is though.

If I were estimating, he was in his early-50s...still, I try not to judge a book by its cover when it comes to tech interest/knowledge. I've seen so many people that counter preconceived notions about age and tech that I try to go in with an open mind. :)

Tis a very proud day. I've been pestering The Beer Store's head office about the inability to pay with my Apple Watch for several weeks. Well, it appears the updates to their TD POS systems are complete - verified at 3 different locations in Kitchener-Waterloo successfully.

(The Beer Store is a monopoly in Ontario, Canada owned by the country's two largest beer companies Anheuser-Busch InBev and The Molson Coors Brewing Company)

A shame they didn't complete this at the start of summer. :)

For those Ontarian's about to chirp about the LCBO - Apple Pay with both iPhone and Apple Watch has worked there pretty much since Apple Pay was launched by the big banks.

My local Ace Hardware takes neither NFC nor EMV. It's run by a bunch of grandpas with an ancient CC machine behind the counter.

Oh, and using a card of ANY kind requires you spend at least $10. o_O:mad:

If only Lowes would do NFC.... but they're still on the MCX train, even though that train crashed and caught fire long ago.

Menards is a small chain, I don't see them even caring about NFC.

Home Depot used to be in town, closest one is 25 miles away. I don't even think they do NFC anyways (yet) - but I thought they announced official support for Apple Pay is coming?

Home Depot is currently suing Visa because they don't want people costing them an extra 5 cents or whatever by choosing not to enter a PIN with their debit cards. I doubt they're ever going to do Apple Pay either.

Home Depot used to have working NFC, but there were a lot of issues (MasterCard didn't seem to work and this was before Discover was on Apple Pay), so they disabled it. I think the issues, their PayPal integration, and possibly this lawsuit are reasons it won't be coming back soon.

Also, I happened to go to Domino's for carryout last night (had a gift card) and noticed that they not only remodeled the inside, but have customer-facing credit card terminals (Ingenico iSC250) - when the cashier rang up my order, the terminal had the tell-tale light on as though it would support NFC, but I didn't get a chance to try it. I know the far left light is not lit when NFC is disabled on these (Walmart, Home Depot), so that's why I'm cautiously optimistic.

That sounds like a non-standard setup for Ace Hardware. Most Ace Hardware use Ace Epicore with Igenico iSC250's and the local company that runs my Ace Hardware has added NFC and EMV both work well and are fast. But apparently not all franchises have them as you have said. Ironically I went into a Westlake Ace Hardware who is a wholly owned by Ace Hardware and they still used the old Ingenico terminals lmao what in the world.
Menards sucks for chip cards as it is its slow as heck but a bunch of Menards have appeared on the ctls locator and it seems they still don't support it but maybe soon I did email them a while ago and they did say the end goal was EMV and beyond(NFC). What they really need is to get a CVM waiver for credit and fix the damn chip speed its slowwww.

I thought I read that they were going to support it so it should be working although I've heard that NFC was not yet enabled on the iSC250's yet. But hey they could have recently enabled it!
