I'm absolutely freakin' desperate for Kroger to start accepting it. I'm sick of going to Meijer and paying more for groceries. Walmart is the absolute cheapest, but I absolutely refuse to support the Walton family (I'll leave politics out of this thread). Kroger is still cheaper than Meijer, and I find Kroger to be a nicer store. One of our two Krogers was renovated this year... it's so nice inside. They have MX915's at every single POS terminal in the store, so Apple Pay can be done.

Interestingly enough, MasterCard's Nearby app says contactless is accepted at that particular store. But it doesn't work.

As I had mentioned earlier... if we can get Kroger and at least a major gas brand in the Midwest (Speedway, Marathon, BP, or Shell) to accept Apple Pay (at the pump, in the case of gas stations)... I will be able to use NFC for at least 90% of all of my transactions, and I would be absolutely thrilled.

I use Apple Pay darn near every single time I buy something in Canada. We need that kind of infrastructure here at home in the United States, too.

Agreed. There is another new one going up in Fairborn. Tearing down old one. I use my LoopPay at Kroger's. Maybe I will email their corporate again. Not a fan of Meijer's either.

I've yet to get a reply. Don't know if that's normal... or if they decided not to give me stickers, but didn't even want to send me a "no" and just dragged my email to the trash.

Below is the reply I received and my reply back.

Thank you for reaching out.
We are able to ship decals directly to merchants/businesses. All the merchant has to do is request a decal sheet at: https://www.applepaysupplies.com
Feel free to pass this information along to the businesses in your town.

Thank you
The Apple Pay team

Thank you for your quick reply. I will certainly let the businesses know where they can order a decal sheet, but in all honesty I doubt that I will make much headway in asking an owner (or employee) to go to a website and request information telling their customers they accept a payment option they didn't know existed. Not trying to be snide or rude in my remarks. I want every place I shop to accept Apple Pay. In my mind a business may be more open to me offering them a sticker telling them they offer a service than directing them to a website. Again, thanks for the quick reply.

I'm just going to make a list of businesses that accept Apple Pay, and place an order for every single one... I'll just put the business name on the address form but have them delivered to my house. Then I can go back around and distribute them.

Did exactly that. Made my initial order today. Will go and survey additional businesses, ordering more as needed.

Let us know if they actually send them. If it works I may have to do the same thing.
They should... don't see why they wouldn't. They're all coming to my address, but I entered each business' name in the "company" field for each order.

Worst case scenario, I just speak with management at each store and ask if it is okay for me to have Apple mail stickers directly to them.

Nope. They cancelled all of them except for the first one.

They're stickers... COME ON!

I really think it is a lack of understanding about most businesses in America. In Cupertino everyone may very well be trying to be the most up to date. Every other business is making all equipment last as long as possible. I know that many of my local businesses only updated their card equipment because they felt they had to and not because they wanted new CC readers.

I hate that bothering a business is the only way to help further awareness.

I was just in the Bay Area for a work trip recently and businesses there are the exact same way. The chip on my corporate card was used a grand total of once this trip, and not even in the Bay Area either.

The real issue is that merchants have always wanted absolute control. It's bad enough for them that they feel they have "no choice" have to pay the 3% or so; contactless becoming common would ensure that they couldn't data mine their customers either. Hence why they're still pushing the retailer-specific apps.

I haven't (willingly) stepped foot in a Walmart in a few weeks. There are a few niche things that I'm forced to buy from Walmart (as no other retailer carries them here), but I've been trying to go to Meijer and a local grocery chain as much as possible.

Granted, an EMV transaction is more secure than mag stripe... I just feel more comfortable with tokenization/device-specific account number and will always choose it over EMV if I can.

That is a good point. I would just like to help spread some awareness for the local mom and pop stores.

Five Below(Added to the list) does EMV Contact and EMV Conctactless on Verifone MX915's and the only other place that I know in the US that does EMV Contactless on MX915 is H&M. EMV ctls receipt usually mentions IAD(Issuer Application Data) and the AID.

Ace Hardware in Fairborn Ohio started to accept AP. One more retailer I use regular. We need Krogers to start accepting it.

Regarding Kroger. I just had this twitter exchange with them. (They replied in 2 separate tweets.) (Still not holding my breath.)

Hey @kroger went to @Walgreens because you don't accept Contactless payments. You have the hardware, it is turned off. #walgreensforthewin

@jholbomb We apologize for any inconvenience that we have caused by not offering a contactless payment option.

I've whined at Kroger (Fred Meyer) here too. They finally got their new terminals, with the NFC logo and everything. The cashiers told me that others had used it successfully, so it tried. No go. They brought over a supervisor, and they said it only worked with android phones. I huffed and puffed, and told them that even the little independent grocery 5 miles away, on my way home, took Apple Pay, and that I'll be using them more for my grocery shopping. As long as it's not too expensive I'd rather support the little guy anyway (plus they have better produce) I ask them every week when I go in.

By "only worked with Android phones" they probably meant Samsung, due to their use of MST. I doubt an Android phone from some other OEM would work.

Got my one-and-only-allowed sticker order in from Apple. I went and put some stickers on the PIN pads of my local meat shop. They were happy. :)

Tried to put some on display at BP, but the manager said to come back tomorrow after she "checked with corporate on policy."

It's just a sticker...

The Ace Hardware I went to today had EMV+swipe only, no contactless. I thought that they had all three with the iSC250s?

To be fair, businesses can't just let people plaster their stores with stickers. I know it's "just a sticker", but they do have the right to exercise control over things like that. That BP may very well not be allowed to put up any non-standard signage.

I was wondering who added Ace Hardware as not accepting NFC? it looks like tmiw? Some do as my local Ace Hardware chain does but Westlake Ace who is corporate does not even have iSC250's. Its pretty obvious that Ace Hardware's pos system is a total freaking mess.

I'm going to guess that its a good idea to remove Fry's from accepting it as their pos is a mess as well and they don't actually accept contactless do they?

I actually don't remember changing/adding them but it looks like the wiki did use to say "some locations" next to the Ace Hardware entry at some point. /shrug

Oh yeah that wasn't you for sure and for Ace Hardware ones that have contactless are usually listed on the ctls locator. Even pre-EMV I saw some on the locator. I was randomly looking around the ctls locator in St Louis and I saw many so support is scattered.

Sheetz is following Sunoco/ARCO/Circle K by using Gilbarco pumps with Verifone card readers. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CwYL5PgWgAASbLv.jpg:large ctls does in fact work just like Circle K.

My local Domino's decided to move to a new building, so they have all-new tech - including iSC250 PIN pads. They weren't operating yet last time I went, but as soon as I find an excuse to eat some junk food, I'll pop in and see if they have NFC enabled. I hope so, especially since (from what I understand) corporate locations take Apple Pay.

I used Samsung Pay on my S7 Edge this past weekend at King Soopers at the self check out and it worked perfectly. King Soopers is a Kroger brand.

I was going to try my Apple Pay first but maybe another time.

Apple Pay will not work at any Kroger stores, as they have NFC disabled. Samsung Pay works because it uses MST.
I got that Apple Pay will not work after reading back several pages. I had called before going to the store to ask if they accepted either one and the guy was only aware of Samsung Pay working.

I still have never gotten to use Apple Pay yet. This is one benefit however to owning phones on both platforms.

You can use tmiw's site emvacceptedhere.com and avoid calling the store and asking. Since you have Samsung Pay, you shouldn't have issues as long as the merchant has a PIN pad that faces you. You can also find places where Apple Pay will work on the site.
