And people bought the new iPad for what now? Thank God I didn’t buy into the hype and kept my 2020 iPad for another one or two years.

For a device that will continue to work well for the next 3-5 years since my 2017 Pro is already starting to show its age. ?‍♀️

This! Apple is waiting for a decent chunk of users to get on the M series and then you'll see more features trickling down.

Back in my day, Apple used to drive their innovation with the mentality that “users don’t know what they want yet, so we should define it for them” instead of waiting for market share to catch up…

Yep, in a really big way, apple won’t be getting my money as easily as they did in the past.
You’ll get over it in a few days matey, but at least the glorious Reds had an amazing season right and won some trophies.... oh wait! ?

Come on, Apple. You can do it. Too many people (including me) are feeling iPadOS is now limiting the hardware to a ridiculous extent. Unleash the hounds.
It’s been this way for years. I realised this when I got the iPad Air 2 and fully realised in when I got the 2017 pro.

After seeing whats new on iPadOS 15, I'm glad I resisted the tentation and still rockin' my 2018 pro that still works perfectly fine and the new OS won't make any difference.
It’s just not worth it for me. It depends on how you use your iPad I guess. However for me I just use it for basic things like browsing, movies, social media, shopping, occasional casual games etc. The only reason I have a pro is because I like the stereo speakers and the laminated display, and HDR support. However I certainly don’t need all the horsepower in my pro. So this new pro was overkill from the get go for me. Even if they announced it was going to run MacOS, I couldn’t care. I already have a macbook air which is also overkill for me.

I feel sorry for those who wanted and expected more though.

I guess we all use our devices differently but I had my 2017 pro up until July last year and it was fine. No slow downs.

CPU was fine. RAM (and possibly slow storage) was my main issue.

I would sometimes switch to Safari and have it remain unresponsive to input for quite a while. Similar to what I'd get on Windows PCs with HDD when I try to restore a Firefox window that's been minimized too long and it has to restore from pagefile (HDD thrashing). I'm sure the mechanism is different on iPads but the end result was similar. These past couple of years, I've been restarting the iPad 1-2x a week to avoid/minimize memory-related issues.

This is partly why I wasn't overly enthused about the 4-6GB RAM 2018 & 2020 Pros with their high asking price. The 2021 Pros have the same high asking price but at least it's a bigger hardware leap from the 2017 Pro (internals-wise).

Tbh, I think of the iOS/iPadOS updates as a bonus. They aren’t deal breakers or anything. Some of the new features look nice. Nothing really life changing, but are they ever? I hardly even remember what tvOS is getting. Always pretty minor updates for that one. watchOS looks okay. All-around, small changes. Probably why they‘re not dropping support for any iPhones or iPads this year.

What the heck were they thinking about putting 16gb RAM into an iPad for then?

This is where all the FCP rumours stemmed from, and it didn’t deliver….

So again my question is, why on earth put a heap of RAM into a device that will never utilise it?
We don't know that it will never utilize it. Things change quickly on the software front.

Well that was a bit of a nothing burger...

I am coming from a 2012 iPad 2 so the choice to buy the new 11” Pro is still sound but other than that, this announcement was meh.

I’ll have to see how the makers of content creation apps respond to the M1 in iPad OS overall, but for now, I am happy with it all as is.

Definitely an upgrade. Surprised your iPad 2 even works, I gave up trying to use mine like 5 years ago, could barely play Netflix lol

Sorry @LFC2020 as I know you were clearly hyped for todays announcements. That was the most underwhelmed I’ve been after an Apple event in a long time. I just assumed there would be a little more in the way of highlighting new Pro features. They built an iPad with the same specs as a loaded M1 iMac, but gave us features that were announced last year for the iPhone… widgets and App Library. I turned the event off immediately following iPadOS.

The April event was so good. WWDC’21 is a striking contrary to it. It’s as if Craig just did a report of what’s currently being done to the next iOS 14 version.

Yeah WWDC 2021 could have been called WWDC 2020.2. Nothing new honestly. The widgets on the Home Screen and multitasking are nice on iPadOS but honestly should have been added in the very long list of iPadOS 14.X releases. They literally offered nothing new in iPadOS that reflects any interest in them wanting to take advantage of the power of the M1. I sincerely hope iPad Pro sales absolutely tank. Apple doesn’t deserve to sell such a high priced item, call it a Pro model, when their very own $600 iPad Air can do every thing the 16GB RAM iPad Pro can at 1/4 the price, and basically just as fast.

Yep, the large screen is the reason I went for a Pro.
Same. I love me a large screen. I want to go into a Best Buy and compare the iPad screen to the M1 MBP screen… I’m still sticking with the iPad though. I just want to compare the 2 side by side.

@LFC2020 today was a bit of a bummer but that doesn’t mean amazing things aren’t in store. Just at Apples usual snail pace. I’m happy to own my first iPad. Sometimes I think i is should have just gotten 256gb but I’ll stick with the 512 for future sake.

I’m coming from the iPad 2 and 3, they’re used exclusively in kitchen by my family for some basic browsing. For that they work perfectly. IMO, a great investment.
M1 in 10 years will still be able to play 4K HDR content. Think about that.
