One step further. In order to let the installer run properly, we need to completely spoof the SMBIOS.

That’s great, hopefully this is something we can do at install time then turn off or down at runtime to prevent damage? My understanding was smbios spoofing isn’t totally safe.

I am going down the route currently of VMWare with a rawdisk, but it wouldn’t create a Big Sur temporary installation source, so I was going to install 10.15.5 then Big Sur over it.

I will try your method if it proves successful for you and install Big Sur to a second APFS volume next to Catalina.

It’s installing now.

We will know if complete SMBIOS spposing is only required for installing soon.

Base on the early stage OC experience (we used complete SMBIOS spoifing to activate HWAccel). Complete SMBIOS spoofing should be quite safe. But of course, it will be much more ideal if we can keep the 5,1 ident.

A little off topic:
I feel really sorry for all those who bought new MacPro and even more sorry for those who bought trashcan this year after today's wwdc

I am more surprised is completely possible to install 11.0 with this method using a few tweaks. Knowing what apple said we are probably going to keep getting updates on our old 4,1/5,1 until apple stops giving support to Intel based Macs completely, unless they lock older architectures in the upcoming years.

I believe I am using complete SMBIOS spoofing then currently if it is what is in your hardware acceleration package... I wonder if I just have a bad install image or something.

Did you have to make any changes to the OC config from that thread?

EDIT: So I think I am just spoofing for the AppleGVA framework and that you have spoofed completely. Can you switch back to spoofing just to AppleGVA after install and have it still work?

You can check the first few pages of this thread. We posted about how to completely spoof the cMP as iMac Pro at there.

Anyway, we just need to spoof the cMP ident for installation. Once Big Sur is installed, we can boot Big Sur with the current OpenCore config and keep the 5,1 ident.

So it look as if, at least for the moment, the 4,1/5,1 might survive another year. I love it haha!

Guys, how to install windows 10 MBR using OpenCore? I’ve now done the Mojave (want to stay in it) and the Windows 10 uefi mode following the instructions in the first post of this thread, but want to rollback to MBR!
Is there a way as I don’t have the SuperDrive installed.

I am using the sample config from initial post and the ‘smbios spoof’ from post 7, but am only able to get the initial installer through to the reboot and then things stop working as expected (loss of video output as the OS loads past open core, then it does something, then it reboots).

Dual CPU trays probably need some magic again, like AppleMCEReporterDisabler.kext.

Also, Lilu, WhateverGreen, and agdpmod=pikera are also required to make sure all ports on the display card can work properly.

So I ran the initial installer with SMBIOS spoofing but am back to my daily driver setup (AMD acceleration stuff) running the MacOS update assistant from reboot and it seems to be working.

So full smbios spoofing may only be needed at the very start. Will know when the install is done.

Got Big Sur installed with OpenCore, so that's exciting. Missing bluetooth (I have a 2015 iMac card), Raid Card says it has no driver, and don't see nightshift so not sure if Lilu & such is working either. Great start though!

I get the error The operation couldn't be completed BIErrorDomain error 3 when update SMBIOS is false, when it is true it says, the disk need a firmware updates etc etc ... so I then switch back to false and gives me again the above error ...

My BCM943602CS works, Magic Mouse works straight away. Personal Hotspot and Handoff also works.

The way to spoofing your 5,1 as iMac Pro 1,1 is at post #7.

N.B. You may need Lilu, WhateverGreen, and agdpmod=pikera in order to let the graphic card display properly (in most case, one of the Display Port should still work without all these. But you have to find out which one).

For dual CPU cMP, you may need AppleMCEReporterDisabler.kext as well even just for installation.

How to install Big Sur oc?
Spoof the 5,1 as iMac Pro 1,1 (please refer to post #2699 and #2705. You should see macOS ident your mac as iMac Pro if you config it properly)

I am using a BCM943602CDP, so we will see if anything changes as we go along. It seems like other people were also having WiFi issues with Big Sur from what I had read. I think I have a BCM943602CS lying around but hope not to try to install it.

It's just early beta, I won't be too surprised BT doesn't work as expected.

And as long as we have the BCM94360 series card. It should be relatively easy to make it work via OpenCore.

A little off-topic here, but installing Big Sur with VMware Fusion and Parallels already work:

Definitely on topic: that link confirms that even with the VMM flag we need a valid BoardID to install Big Sur.

Yep!

Btw, needs at least 50GB to 60GB of free space for upgrading or installing via the published VMware Fusion method that I linked.

Another thing, a friend tried to do the install with a Nehalem Xeon (E55xx, L55xx, X55xx, W35xx) and did not work at all.
