Well there you go - this happened to me today as well

Hooray, I'm not alone!

Here's my original post with the screenshot, but so you don't have to look back, it's this error:

Lilu dev: @ failed to obtain model information, retrying...

Over and over and over on boot. I still get it with OC 0.7.6 and Lilu 1.5.8. Solution is to turn off and turn back on again. It's usually worse if I immediately skip the boot menu, almost as if something's not quite waking up in time.

can second that, had this also with oclp 0.33 / oc 0.7.6 when trying to install 12.1. After forced shutdown installation went thru. Didnt see it with 11.6.2 btw.

Hi everyone!
I am on Mojave, and I would like to install the latest security fixes, but the App Store just offers me the option to upgrade to Monterey (and I don't want that).

What should I do?

Mojave is not supported anymore, Apple only offers support/updates for the current macOS and the past two, no more Security Updates for Mojave since the Monterrey release.

You have to upgrade to Catalina or newer to continue to have Security Updates.

check the version of Mojave that you have.
The wikipedia page at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacOS_Mojave says 18G9323 is the latest. This is the version that I see in my /Volumes/Mojave/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist file so I guess I'm up to date. I have dosdude1 Mojave and I believe all updates appear without having to use other tools, unlike dosdude1 Catalina.

That is why in Plistlib Generator there are no default MaxKernel definitions, it avoids this exact issue.
I'm not sure what "issue" you are talking about. I didn't have any issues. It is documented on this very thread that I was perfectly aware, weeks ago, that the SurPlus MaxKernel parameter required updating to 21.2.0, and I changed that in my GPT USB thumb drive that I use to check if changes to config.plist are safe (I've never used exemplary config.plist files or auxiliary tools like "Plistlib Generator"), but I simply forgot to update MaxKernel in my normal config.plist. As it turned out, it was very fortunate that I forgot, because, as far as I know, that mistake made it possible for me to be the first person to realize SurPlus was no longer necessary for Monterey 12.1.

Hello,
Wondering if original bluetooth and wifi cards work with Monterey Mac Pro 5,1
Chipset: BCM_4350C2
AirPort Utility: 6.3.9
If there's any info about this in the thread much appreciated.

Thanks

^I would think the vintage hardware you mention won't keep Monterey from booting, but you won't be able to make said hardware work as its modern counterpart, unless you somehow manage to "inject" old drivers (from Mojave or the like) into the protected Monterey system volume, something that would directly go against post #1.

Well there you go - this happened to me today as well - had to switch off and restart twice....

Anyone figured out the issue?

Cheers

I have also noticed hanging on boot with the same message:

Lilu dev: @ failed to obtain model information, retrying...

This needs further investigation and should be reported on the Acidanthera bugtracker as soon as possible.

I have bootpicker enabled - If I immediately click "MacOS" to boot I don't seem to get the issue - if I just leave it and don't click then it happens more often that not......

Reported the issue

And you're running 12.1, not 11.6.1 or 11.6.2, right? (btw you should update your sig to show your current OS)

Hi,

cMac Pro 5.1 OCLP 0.7.6

BCM94360CD It works fine in Big Sur and Monterey. It doesn't show Handoff and other features in Monterey, but it works. What could be the reason for this?

Is it safe to install Catalina from the official installer with OpenCore or do I need to patch the installer?

Hi all,

I'm looking to install linux, specifically PopOS, on a spare drive on my Mac Pro 4,1->5,1. I'm using Opencore, and having no problems with either Monterey or Windows 11.

The Live USB boots up no problem, but the install freezes on configuring the disk. I force shut down the machine, and a new NO NAME disk shows up, but booting to it just gives me a grey screen. Not a black screen, but a fully grey screen. I tried doing the install on my laptop, a 2017 15" MacBook Pro, and the install went no problem. Putting that disk (with the completed, booting, working install) back into my Mac Pro results in the same grey screen.

I've seen mentions of an OpenLinuxBoot kext, but I'm not sure where to begin with that. Google has not been helpful, unfortunately. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful. I remembering seeing a guide to installing Linux in the first post of this thread, but that's no longer there, I'm assuming due to changes brought about this mysterious OpenLinuxBoot?

Specs are as follows: OC 0.7.4 (Martin Lo flavour), x5690, 24GB 1333 DDR3, RX 5700XT, and a Crucial 1TB SATA SSD for the Linux install.

Thank you all in advance!

-Grady

I'm in much the same boat without the grey screen issues. Just can't boot Mint through Opencore. I've searched as much as possible but can't really find much info on OpenLinuxBoot or what that meant for install process etc. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hello guys,
I have gotten USB3 Boot with an FL1100 card working on the MacPro5,1 through OpenCore.

Edit: Testing from @Macschrauber shows that booting from VLI-based cards also works, if you have a USB3 card that isn't made by Fresco Logic or VLI, feel free to give the drivers a shot
Edit2: Testing from @Ausdauersportler shows that these drivers also work on the 2011 iMac, showing that they may also work on other legacy Macs with USB3 upgrades (eg. ExpressCard, Thunderbolt)
Drivers are linked in this post: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread....2207814/page-391?post=30677096#post-30677096

After messing with extracted UEFI drivers from the MacPro6,1 and injecting/installing them with OC, here it is:

Very interesting. Are those drivers exclusive to the FL1100 chip? Do you suppose adding the relevant kext(s) to config.plist might cause an external USB drive connected via a Titan-Ridge Thunderbolt card to be recognized by the OpenCore boot picker on a cMP?
