Open Core 0.8.8 / Monterey Compatible variants of the Sapphire Pulse RX580 8GB?

I need to find some of these to migrate a few 4,1->5,1 flashed hex core xeon dual proc's to OC and Monterey.

While there's always a number of these on Ebay, the other variants (VFX, MSI etc) are a lot more numerous and tend to be less $$. However I know that not all of them work, and some of the ones that were OK with Mojave may not be so with Monterey (as I found out with a couple I recently ordered off eBay and had to return).

If any of ya'll have confirmed 8 GB 580 variants you've got working under OC 0.8.8 with Monterey, I'd be most grateful to know what they are, rather than having to just keep buying random variants and go through the hassle of returning the ones that don't work.

Thanks.

Is there any way to get to the maintenance section from 0.8.6 > 0.8.7?
Because post #1 is a wikipost, this is actually quite simple: Click the “WikiPost History” button at the bottom of the post, then find the version corresponding to an edit made after the version you want to see (so, for 0.8.7, look for “Update to OC version 0.8.8”, which is actually the latest edit, but the contents will be for the previous version), and click “View”.

Awesome, thanks so much. You're correct, its' a bit backwards and took a few goes with the web gui to get the right one, and ended up having to set it as follows and click the 0.8.8 one to see the 0.8.7.

However that saved an immense amount of work, thanks.

I didn’t go to 0.8.8 yet but have two RX580 working with Monterey:

Sapphire Pulse RX580 8gb
XFX RX580 GTS 8GB

The XFX has 3x display ports and 1 HDMI, it’s a lot more useful.

I recently installed a Sapphire Rx580 in a 4,1->5,1. Monterey 12.6.2 running. I did have an issue with the bootpicker not showing. This was resolved by using the DVI-D and one of the DP (with adapter for DVI-D to DP; old Mac monitors). It didn't show the bootpicker when connected to the two DP with DVI-D to DP adapters. When connected to the two DP it did boot through to Monterey (default in bootpicker) and all was good once logged in. So only bootpicker wasn't showing up. The card was a dual bios so I tried reflashing one but to no avail. Using the connections described above resolved it somehow. (OC 0.8.8)

Amazon card description:

SAPPHIRE Radeon 11265-05-20G Pulse RX 580 8GB GDDR5 Dual HDMI/ DVI-D/ Dual DP OC with Backplate (UEFI) PCI-E Graphics Card Graphic Cards

EDIT!: OC was just recently put on the 4,1->5,1. I just noticed that in my EFI there was an Apple folder. Not sure how I managed that (merge rather than overwrite I guess). Deleted the Apple folder in the EFI and I can now see the bootpicker using two DP.

I have a similar situation going on. I have 2 RX480 Radeons from MacVidCards, flashed. In my Dual processor 2009 (with reconstructed bootrom from tsialex!) both cards show the EFI boot picker, and show all boot options using the Option key at boot. My single processor 2009 (also with reconstructed bootrom!) display "unsupported input" with both cards, using both the HDMI and DP connections. I believe I had an NVidia 630 GT 2GB in the single processor originally and didn't have this issue. However, it runs like crap in Monterey.

Any ideas?

If you tried all the ports, none of them can display the UEFI GOP boot screen via OpenCore (but all ports works inside MacOS). Then the UEFI GOP may be broken. This often happen on user cards (the previous modded the card’s ROM).

You may backup the existing ROM, then go to TechPowerUp, download a factory ROM for your card and flash it. This usually can bring the UEFI GOP boot screen back.
Ok, the first successful start. I turned on the eco.mode on the Vega FE and connected just the HDMI port. I saw the boot screen and was able to chose between partitions. I don't have sound yet, but now I want to upgrade OS to Monterey and work from there. I will keep you posted. Thank you for the advice.

I'm using 0.8.7 package from Martin Lo and will get a forbidden symbol when trying to restart the Mac (apple menu > restart) - but only when attempting a restart.

The symptom is the boot picker from the package will show, choose Monterey (12.6.2 on the dual CPU machine) then the progress bar goes really slowly then stops, with forbidden symbol.

If I do a cold start (press power button to turn on) there is never any issue. I normally never need to restart so it's not a big problem and it runs very stable otherwise.

I got this error. I checked online and people reference the AdviseFeatures=True. In my case it is on already. Any other suggestions?

You may try to turn on VMM and turn off SMBIOS spoofing. This should allow you to work around that firmware update issue.

Thank you for this information. How can I turn off the SMBIOS spoofing? Is it UpdateSMBIOS = False?

Didn't work out. Something else can be wrong?
Please check your config if any part (apart from SMBIOS) spoofed the Board ID or Mac ident. That usually is the cause of this issue (if VMM already turned ON).

If your existing customised OpenCore config can boot into any macOS you want, just can't install them. They you may backup your existing OpenCore, then use cdf's guide to install Monterey. Or use my pre-configured OC package (which you still need to turn on VMM and turn off SMBIOS spoofing for Monterey installation) to install Monterey.

Then revert back to your existing OpenCore config.

Thank you for your help. So, what I did:
  1. turn on eco.mode on Vega Frontier (FE)
  2. Turned of the SIP through the recovery boot
  3. Installed your OC as described in manual for a clean setup
  4. Turned on the VMM (Cupid1data = Cpuid1Mask) and off the spoofing (UpdateSMBIOS = False)
  5. After that installed the Monterey from a USB drive
  6. I have 2 displays and I switch between them during the installation (HDMI and DP). I have no reason why, but the signal just swap between channels
  7. Monterey is operational now, but the HDMI channel doesn't work at all and I can't see the OC again.
Continuing my investigation...

OC itself shouldn't be affected by the OS.

OC is a boot loader, it works before the OS start to load. So, Monterey shouldn't stop OC to activate the Vega FE's UEFI GOP.

In your case, most likely only the Eco mode ROM has a UEFI GOP that can be functioned on the cMP.

Once you finish Monterey installation, you should turn off VMM and turn on SMBIOS spooding. This can re-gain proper CPU power management (including entering low power state and TurboBoost), and should enable full HWAccel for the Vega FE.

If multi monitors setup has issues. Please try single DP monitor setup first. If that works consistently, then we know the cMP and the Vega FE are fine. Just need to find out how to connect the monitors.

You can also look at the programatic version, for notable changes.
Been meaning to go down that road, and kudos for a great tool, just haven't had the time to figure out how to set up the config and do the python thing.

Setups are pretty simple, Rx580, dual proc, internal NVME OC Boot and Monterey on the NVME's.

Looked over the docs on it and part of the wiki, seems straightforward enough but I don't do much in python so the mechanicals of the part would take some figuring. No learned how to do GitHub or that sorta stuff, so a number of the assumptions as to my abilities are prolly fall short. While I can code, it's not in anything ya'll have ever seen, and the last source control stuff I ever dealt with was SourceSafe which has been extinct for eons.

I can look at your examples and mostly figure out from inspection what they do, and can read the plist XML fine (wrote a plist Parser years ago) but it's the "how you set up and run the thing" that's a headscratcher.

So many of these things (gitHub / distributed RTEs etc assume everybody has used one.

hello, i have the same error as Dr.Mav, "A required firmware update could not be installed".

My system is a Dual MacPro4.1/5.1 which is running OC and had Monterey/Mojave/Mavericks among Windows running;
today i decided to use latest OCLP to delete Monterey (it had performance issues and was giving "Hash Mismatch error", on a NVME) and reinstall BigSur, which worked fine;
afterwards made a new installer (again with OCLP) for Monterey 12.6.2, but this now always complains "required firmware update could not be installed".
Is there an easy fix, or should i try to use an older Monterey installer? sadly, i dont remeber how i installed Monterey in the first place.

Thanks for all the help, great place to be.

Edit: OC is installed with M.Lo 0.8 package, but afterwards i installed manually the ReFind package for easy Windows detection and booting capabilities.

Edit2: alright, thanks, got settled, with the comments before and the right direction from Mr.Hwojtek ;)

Aargh! I thought Bootcamp would give me the option on where to install Windows. It only defaults to the boot drive. Running OCLBP on a 5,1 Mac Pro. Trying to install Windows 10 on a dedicated internal drive and hope to dual-boot. Any pointers welcomed.

Yeah, the instructions don't make sense when they get to modifying OC files. Not that they need to be dumbed down, but they are not not complete in my book and expect a certain level of knowledge.

I am seeing three additional lines at start of OC boot log in 0.8.8. I don't know what they reference but maybe you are seeing similar?
