Hi guys, setting up the OpenCore.
What to do to make already installed windows 10 visible for opencore?
I see there is a tutorial how to install windows 10 with opencore, but what should I do if I have it already installed and working?
Where can I download needed files that I need to transfer from usb to efi folder?
If you have it installed with the BOOTCAMP assistant (hybrid MBR) or a standalone Legacy/MBR mode it will not show up in the OpenCore because those versions are unsupported. Bear in mind Intel will stop supporting Legacy installs from 2020. Your option is to convert it to UEFI with GPT partitioning scheme:
This will only work if it is installed on a separate drive.

Not sure if this should go here, but Im having issues signing into iMessage on a 5.1 Mac Pro running OpenCore for HW accelerated video. This just started happening when I had to sign out if iCloud services yesterday so Im not sure that it is related to the OpenCore config or not. Been using it for a while and haven't had any issues at all up until now. If you have any ideas, that would be great.

**Nevermind** Got this sorted and not related to OC...please delete

Thanks! I checked and it seems I have mbr on separate disk.
‘if I do the conversion under windows then when I reboot the opencore will see the windows automatically or should I still follow the tutorial and copy those files?
i assume when I’ll convert mbr partition to gpt I won’t be able to boot windows without the opencore, am I right?

After you complete the steps, several actions will take place, including validation of the drive and creation of an EFI system partition (ESP). The UEFI boot files and GPT components will be added to the partition. Then the MBR2GPT tool will update the Boot Configuration Data (BCD), and the previous letter will be added to the drive.
Do it from the recovery console not from Windows. It should be automatically recognized by OC. Don't boot to Windows without OC.

The boot chime settings in OpenCore are for the benefit of Hacks, the primary target users of OpenCore, which do not have native chimes and should not be set on a cMP.

Thanks, you are right OpenCore boot chime is not needed on a legacy Mac, turned off BootChime in config.plist and the Apple firmware chime works.

Great, thanks again!
what could potentially happen when booting gpt windows without opencore?
Potential Nvram or windows corruption?
I ask because to transform mbr to gpt I need to disable opencore to be able to boot to windows.
after first oc installation I can no longer select and boot to Mac from windows (something broke) and I need to do the nvram reset Each time. So it could happen that after the gpt change windows will boot again without oc. maybe after the change I should shutdown, eject the windows hdd and then enable opencore?

Don't disable OC. Do the Virtualbox boot and conversion inside virtual box.

Good news: OpenCore version 0.5.9 now automatically detects the Windows bless path (to bootmgfw.efi). This allows us to delete bootx64.efi and still boot Windows through OC without any additional configuration. Deleting bootx64.efi is useful to prevent the cMP from damaging its BootROM by booting Windows directly.

sounds great!
so with opencore 0.5.9 I don’t need to change my legacy windows install in the end?

Hey guys, under OpenCore, how to install Windows 10 on the same Catalina disk, in a new partition?
I've tried before, but unsuccessfully.
The thing is I do have a NVME 1TB SSD, and I'd like to put booth OS on it. Today I use another dedicated disk (hdd) for Windows 10 and it is too slow.

My apologies in advance if this is an obvious question, but I haven't been able to find an answer in my searching so far. I installed OC 0.5.8 with NDK using h9826790's package on my cmp 5,1, and everything is working great. I now would like to add the ability to boot into Linux(I went with Ubuntu 20.04). In the past (it has been awhile) I would just use refit/refind, so I didn't think it would be an issue. I have an internal sata drive with high sierra where I installed OC, a nvme ssd with mohave, and a third sata drive. I tried a couple custom partitioning attempts on the third drive, and with available space on the nvme drive but upon reboot, no linux in the boot picker. I then pulled both OSX drives and ran through the installation with just the third drive(second sata) installed, and everything worked fine. Let ubuntu take the entire drive and partition as it desired, rebooted fine, updated, rebooted again, etc. But putting the two drives back in, still no linux in boot picker. I've seen some threads on people using refind and OC together, but those all seemed to be on hacks, not Apple HW. Is there a plist setting I need to change or something, or will it just not work? Thanks!

Wait for version 0.5.9, and then follow the guide with one exception: when copying the boot files to the EFI partition, only copy EFI/Microsoft, leaving OpenCore's BOOT folder intact.

or will it just not work?

It works. And you don't need any other boot loader than OpenCore. You can install grub with the removable option (creating a bootx64.efi that OpenCore will automatically detect) or specify the bless path in your config (take a look at the manual).

just tried 0.5.9

text mode is ok,

OpenCanopy not.

followed the instructions from post 1, took the sample settings from post 1 (June, 1st version)

1.) added the contenct of OcBinaryData (replaced in Resources the folders Audio, Images, Label, Font)
2.) in config.plist
set Misc / Boot / Pickermode to External
added UEFI / Drivers / Item 1: OpenCanopy.efi

just ignores OpenCanopy, no text mode also, loads my boot drive directly

opencore does its magic as I have vmm in sysctl machdep.cpu.features

You may try my 0.5.9 package. Or compare your config / EFI folder to my package.

I have OpenCanopy running since 0.5.9 beta
