Hello. Just wanted to say Thank You for this utility! I purchased a used MBP and after resetting and reinstalling High Sierra, I started getting kernel panics every few minutes. Did a fresh OS install, disabled SIP, and ran your patch. Knock on wood, no panics since. I have a couple questions for anyone that might find this post:
Fabioroberto's post referred to keeping the g-state at 2 always. Is that what was used in this utility?
When I look at Energy Saver preferences, "Automatic graphics switching" is unchecked however Fabioroberto's post mentions this should be checked? Is that the desired state or can/should this be re-enabled?
Somewhat related, in my Google Chrome, "Use hardware acceleration when available" is checked. Anyone run into any issues with this?
Looking at the symptoms, this kinda problem should be fixed by hardware rather than by software. It looks pretty the same to me as the external GPU power management IC bad soldering problem with the 2012 RMBPs. Once properly resoldered, GPU issues totally goes away.
So, this one appears to resemble same reasons like GPU (core) powering issues when it's switching between various load modes (consequently, GPU core power consuption to go up and down, respectively).
UPD: I was generally right. It's due to bad capacitor in the GPU core power rail. See this
Louis is just replacing it with the bigger film cap vs original tantalum one, but I think tantalum with either higher voltage rating or greater capacity to be fine too. Should be measuring the rail with an oscilloscope in various load conditions to tell exactly what is happening with that cap that causing it semi-dead (when heated it appers to be working for a while). But anyways, looks like hardware engineering f..up by apple ((
So, I'd rather solve the hardware problem than dicking around with software crutches.

Yes that is correct. However the best estimate I have been able to find to fix it for me is $350. The kext hack works fine in the meantime.
It's easy to DIY such a primitive repeair. Cheap soldering station with heat gun & thermocouple (to get the idea of the real temps from the heat gun) would cost no more than $100. + a couple of bucks for the solder and cap.
But spending those $100 you keep the tools and aquire the skills..., IMHO

I've downloaded the GPU fix in the past and it worked very well until recently after the most recent OSX update. I downloaded the latest patch (Version 6.0) but received the following message:
"AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext not found" As a result, the GPU kernel panic persist on my MBP. Can you suggest a solution, please?

I had had the graphics bug under control (while running 10.6.8 on MBP6,2 (mid-2010) and using gfxCardStatus to keep it on Intel only.) No problem for years. Then, after installing a new SSD and upgrading to 10.11.6 (El Capitan), gfxCardStatus ceased to solve the problem: constant crashes. Thankfully, I found and installed MBPMid2010_GPUFix -- it solved the crash problem and it was working perfectly and without incident for months.
Now, after a Mac update (and running MBPMid2010_GPUFix), while it does not crash during normal use, it does crash every time it wakes (after a sleep), or starts (after a shutdown).
Resetting SMC, resetting PR doesn't seem to help any.

Really, it could be anything... my MBP will restart when i try to open facebook.com, or if the screensaver comes on, or opening any file... & trying to watch YouTube vids over 720p...
but, it will restart randomly, even changing the volume, & getting the on-screen icon display will make it restart, it seems.
will be trying your fix again tomorrow...

I am running 10.9.5 with gfxCardStatus (v.1.8.1 as newer versions don't work for me). I no longer receive the kernel panic error message. I've tried macoh-master in the past and that didn't seem to help. I've tried other fixes and again no joy there. I do not have the resources to purchase/upgrade hardware, or have someone to do this work for me. Do you think this software will work for my system?

I used version 0.6.1 on a 15" 2010 Macbook Pro with complete success. It fixed the GPU Panic problem as intended and we've been using that Mac now for the last 10 days with no black screen crashes at all. Before, it was crashing about every 20 minutes. So delighted with the fix that I sent a small donation to Julian. Good luck. I should add that the repaired Mac is using High Sierra OS (10.13.6) successfully. This fix needs to be put in every time that the system is updated.

On that note, are you able to supply the original, unpatched Kext file, and I will attempt to install with the Kext Utility?

The way to get the original ktext file as it comes from Apple should be simply to do an OS system upgrade or reinstall, as this will overwrite any "temporary" fix that has been done to it. At least that's what Julian's docs seem to suggest.

Thanks Barnaby. I have understood that an upgrade will re-write the file, but I was trying to avoid an upgrade if at all possible. I finally graduated from the school of "Ain't broke, don't fix it". Only took all my life. I'm currently running Sierra 10.12.5. Hoping to maybe score the original file and write it to the OS.

So if i reenable the fix after the fix, does the fix work correctly?

I just installed your patch and so far I have to say happily it is working!...I have noticed one thing that happens...Instead of shutting down and restarting, the computer goes into sign on mode so all if have to do is enter my password and keep going.
Not certain you have mentioned this but I will keep you posted as I am hoping I wont have to pull down the laptop again. I am not sure I would be able to find a computer technician I would trust to repair my logic board as I am living in Jamaica. I wish I had found this patch a few weeks ago because I purchased a new logic board for this laptop and it seems I could have avoided that by installing the patch.
