Check my video in previous post, turn off Auto-Brightness.

Can confirm this has worked for me. Usually my memory usage would be through the roof after using my M1 Max all afternoon with even small apps like Mail pushing 6GB, but since following the advice from @TinyMito Mail is currently at a much more manageable 367mb and all of my work apps (Photoshop, Cinema4D, After Effects) are playing nice and not hogging memory when they're idle.

Massive thank you @TinyMito for pinpointing the issue and sharing the solution, truly appreciated.

Thanks!!
Just yesterday I installed beta 3 and, at least for me, all memory troubles are gone...
5~6GB RAM free all the time. No memory pressure. I'll disable the plist and, if happen the CC thing again I'll definitely turn off the AB.
The only bug so far is related to smart mailboxes in Mail.app. They go away when you restart the app.

How to check memory status in MacOS?
I am also running 12.1Beta3.
Launch Activity Monitor in utilities. It comes up in %CPU, just click the one to the right "Memory". Then it will display all your process names with memory usage in MB or GB. Highest will be on top.

Also note the memory presssure bottom left should be in the green mostly. Swap Used is when the OS is using the SSD to swap additional memory from when you run out of physical.

I wonder if it will impact the excessive use of caches on Safari. By going to the Develop dropdown and selecting Empty Cache, I can gain about 3GB every time. It has no affect on speed of Safari.

In addition to the ridiculous control center bug, I believe Facetime also has a MASSIVE memory leak. Had about an hour call and callservicesd was using 51gb of ram... brand new MPB 14"

Yeah not too impressed. Never really had many bugs previous versious but these I def notice. I'm coming from a few OS releases before on a 2015 MPB 13" and there are definitely a number of changes they've made in Mac OS that are steps backwards, esp in the UI department.

Monterey 12.1 beta 4:
  • Code 4 instances.
  • Edge with 2 tabs.
  • Several extensions in Edge.
  • Safari with 8 tab groups and around 6 tabs opened each.
  • Several extensions in Safari.
  • Terminal 2 instances.
  • Lulu firewall.
  • Stats menu bar extensions.

Oh you’re definitely not alone. I clock it over 1.3GB at least once a day. The next Monterey update couldn’t come soon enough.

Sounds like my experience. Just checked right now and WindowServer was up to 2.2GB, but just dropped to 999MB after I started typing this reply. Thats the only app I see with high memory usage here, its almost always over 1GB but occasionally drops below. Today was the first time Ive seen it at 2GB though.

nope, new macbook pro 16 inch 12.0.1

i believe it's related to 4k youtube in firefox as it seems not to occur if i avoid that
Same here, except I get up to about 4.5 GB and force quit WindowServer to release the memory. I've only seen this when viewing YouTube on Firefox.

yep doesn't happen on safari so I guess i'll just be avoiding firefox youtube until it's sorted

Anyone figure out the control center memory leak? Tired of having to re-boot the computer to get everything sorted out again. I'm getting to the point where I'll just send back the system and wait for a fix. ? product feedback to Apple sent.

Are you using Beta 4?
Thanks
1.47GB now on Beta 4. However, I am not sure what's the "normal" memory usage for this process. I know it will be dependent on the number of windows opened and stuff like that.

Seems like it's not a Monterey-specific thing, so higher memory consumption might be normal:

WindowServer around 1gb I think is normal if you have a number of things open- that process is what holds graphic elements of windows on the display in ram.

Just quit the process in activity monitor and it will automatically reopen. Doesnt perfect solve it since I don't think it will clear the swap/cache right away, but it opens up free ram and reduces memory pressure if the swap process has been using a huge amount of ram.
