It might or might not be true, but it is not "too good" to be true. Otherwise, the iPad would not even exist.
No where as of yet...
I think (if this is true) that it will be changed tonight and announced tomorrow (as with many Apple Store updates that happen on Tuesdays).
Otherwise, nothing is official and nothing has been announced...

I must be a cheapskate...I've only spent $1.99 on apps for my iPhone and I've had one since the original launch day in 2007.

Oh, and I just realized: this might not also be true because Apple wouldn't update orders while they are processing new ones.
All of my Apple orders that shipped from China (and the iPad WiFi) all got the updates around 5-6 AM EST, when it is the end of the "workday" in China, or at least near to the cutoff times for shipping over there...
So this update makes no sense, especially since we should be seeing a lot more people near to that date (like me) who have the update...
However, it still may be true... we just have to wait and see...

This actually seems quite likely. I understand that with the original WiFis, they were cranking them out as fast as they could, waiting till the last second to get as many as possible for the first day. But it makes sense that the 3G's might already be in a warehouse here. They've had about an extra two and a half weeks after the Wifi, as well as the two months before that.
Also makes sense, since that way they can start shipping right after they announce it and get it to us by the end of the week.
I'm convinced the screenshot of the April 23rd delivery is faked. It would be easy to make a convincing fake, but this person apparently tried too hard. Too much stuff is missing or moved around and not what actually appears when something is about to be shipped.

I'm so anxious for these to ship I want this more than anything to not be fake. Even though my first inclination was to disregard the "fake" cries, I am curious about the specific date. My iPad Connection Camera Kit changed today to "Prepared for Shipment", but the "Ships: Late April" remained the same. No delivered by date. True, this is a different product so perhaps a different situation.
I'm just hoping that my iPad 3g order changes very soon to Prepared for Shipment, and I won't care whether this is faked or not.

I just got an email confirming shipment of the camera connection kit. I was a little surprised... I figured Apple would try to save some shipping costs and mail remaining in the same box as the iPad.
It says delivery by the 23rd, shipping from Shenzen, China. Hopefully I'll have an iPad there to use it!
I'm in the same boat. Mine hasn't changed from standard shipping to priority yet, either. I ordered on Saturday the 17th and my debit card shows a pending charge as well.
I was one of those "first moment available" order-placers (in fact, same time as she placed hers at 5:37), and I would think then I'd be in the "first batch" to get shipped. My status hasn't changed, so I'm going to call shenanigans for right now (although will be tickled if it's true because me calling shenanigans means squat!).
As for your information Rob, that would be great news if it's domestic overnight shipping. Soul, I'm hoping they get to us by the end of the week, but I'll settle for anytime before I leave on the following Tuesday.
