Don't forget...the Apple Financial Results Conference Call is today at 5PM EST. Perhaps we'll hear something about the expected ship date for the first wave of 3G units on that call.

Do you see an AT&T logo on the iPhone at all? Do you see AT&T dictating what features belong in the firmware or make you go to their MediaNet webpages and stay within the "AT&T internet"? To me AT&T is just a dumb pipe and should only be supplying the voice/data service.

Apple has done a lot in the past 3 years with the iPhone without having AT&T meddling with the product. To me that is progress right there and was never done before with a carrier. The only way to have had a "pure" experience with a device was to buy unlocked, but America had no clue what that was.

My only beef with apple and AT&T's partnership is that apple allows AT&T to dictate various app choices such as google voice and skype. Apple should bully AT&T to shut up and take it since they are feeding them free cash from all the iPhone users.

But we already know it will be by the end of the month:confused:

Free cash? You must be listening to obuma and his friends. AT&T is providing a service for the iPhones and judging from it's degradation of the network, the iPhone has taken it toll and all this free cash will be needed to increase the bandwidth!

Let's be realistic about the history here. If Apple and AT&T didn't pen that exclusivity agreement before the iPhone was released, yes - I think AT&T's tendrils might have been manifested in an app or two on the phone by default. Carriers make no qualms about making the rules regarding firmware and software on the devices. I wouldn't call the lack of meddling by AT&T "progress", I'd call it a contractual stipulation. That contract will soon expire and a new one negotiated.

Hopefully the fruits of that negotiation - with others (like with Verizon) will benefit consumers with more choice and features to enrich not only the companies inking the deals, but also the iPhone/iPad experience for the end user.

Greg...
With all of the fervor in this thread for those awaiting pre-ordered 3G units, we're looking for a juicy quote with specifics from today's conference call like, "Today, Apple will begin shipping it's much-anticipated 3G version of the iPad to pre-orders across North America. The 3G unit will also be available for purchase at Apple Retail stores in North America on April 24th." ;)

Screw the 24th, the 21th would be fine.

I found a media alert online the call in number for the conference call is (888) 857-6932 or (719) 457-2634 and they also listed the live webcast at www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/earningsq210

This media alert was at the following website from the apple site:

If anyone is interested. :apple:

Well...got my email at 6:33a EDT yesterday...no charge on my card yet...shipping still says Late April.

My camera connection kit shipped this morning, though (also slated for Late April) and should be here Friday (4/23). It'd be nice to have something it can plug into!

Shipping Starting? Maybe?

I just checked my order status on my 2 Apple iPad 3G 64gb devices.
Since I ordered back on March 28th, the Apple care insurance never quote on quote "shipped" but this morning was different.

I checked my order status and it was under COMPLETE!
I think the shipping must be starting today or extremely soon!

I still can't believe they haven't announced a release date :confused::confused:

You would think after all the charges, "Late April" would have a definite date. Just a little irritating. :D

Highly unlikely Mr. Jobs or anyone else will comment definitively on a domestic 3G ship time during the Earnings conference. And assuming I am correct, negative media shills such as Scott Moritz will attempt to put a negative spin on the "non-comment."

Seems odd that Apple would charge credit cards and then hold those funds until next Friday. If I remember correctly, those who pre-ordered the wi-fi version had their cards charged within the same week as delivery.

April 16th post:
I'm wondering if the change to Priority is actually a sign that Apple has to rush the shipment in order to meet EOM delivery. My guess is that they will ship on the 28th.

I win. Give me a darn cookie!

Could be they are tired of the phone calls and harrassment so they are setting a date later than their actual expected date. Set low expectations and then exceed them. :D
