I guess I'll have to go back to my pretend iPad for 10 days; which consist of a Dell mousepad and a few pieces of cardboard held together with rubber-bands.

California—April 20, 2010—Apple® today announced that the Wi-Fi + 3G models of its magical iPad™ will be delivered to US customers who’ve pre-ordered on Friday, April 30, and will be available in Apple retail stores the same day starting at 5:00 p.m.

Woo Hoo... no Saturday delivery BS to stress over like the WiFi release! Granted, I work on Fridays, but I have alternate options during the week regardless of carrier. Of course, watch it be delivered by FedEx who does deliver on Saturdays here. That is all backwards enough from the WiFi release, it will probably happen

I originally had mine set to deliver to work...assuming it would deliver during the work week because I didn't think Apple would repeat the silliness of delivering on Saturday. Several days ago I decided for some reason to switch it to home because I thought it would deliver on Saturday...and I don't work on Saturday. Now that it is supposedly going to deliver on Friday I have decided to take this as fate and I'm taking the day off so I can be home. If I switched it back to deliver to work I would be a complete piece of poop at work anyway because I would want to go home and play. :D

Last week was "Mid April".
This week is "Late April".
Next week is "End of April".

I saw this post in another thread, and I have to agree. Apple isn't making good on their "late April" promise, and they are just barely making the "End of April" timeframe.

I look forward to getting my hands on a unit; heck, it's just about one more week away and right before a nice weekend!

But frankly and honestly, I am seriously disappointed I have to wait yet one more friggin week...

I guess we all see it differently. I saw "late April" as being anytime second half of the month, and when it was apparent they had a supply/demand issue...well, I'm just glad they didn't push ALL of the shipments back into May. From a global perspective, that would have made more sense, but I think their loyalty to the US market made them compromise by giving us preference at the expense of the rest of the world.

I'm sure Apple would have like to deliver earlier - probably on April 24th, and release international shipping of wifi and 3G at the same time as US 3G. It looks like they just didn't have enough iPads to go around. So they moved the international date to "late May" (presumably May 30 ;)*), and I'd bet they moved US ship date back to April 30 to free up some extra inventory they could then earmark for the rest of the world.

Tough balancing act. Not the first time Apple has had to juggle shipping schedules against thin inventories and figure out how to piss off the fewest customers possible.

Folks let's put this in perspective....

Given today's current environment if the worst thing in your life is wondering if Apple barely met their "end of april" time frame or having to wait an additional week to make your luxury purchase of an ipad....you are living a good life. There are a number of folks out there who have more pressing issues. We are all fortunate to be in a position to buy our new toys.

I was thinking that too....I just got back from a couple of weeks in Haiti.

Yes, perspective is important. I didn't say it was the "worst thing" in my life. Keep the perspective, okay?

Why do people think that posting a complaint about shipping dates on a message board means that the person has nothing more serious to worry about? Believe it or not, it is possible to consider more than one issue at a time.

If anything, I think it illustrates that this is a place for people to escape reality, to a place where camaraderie over a mutual hobby can make the everyday worries disappear. The perspective is that this is a Mac-centric website, not the nightly news.

I don't understand this reasoning. There is only one way to take "Late April," and that's this way:

April 1st- 10th= Early April
April 11th- 19th= Mid April
April 20th- 30th= Late April

"End of April" is an entirely different qualifier.

The iPad is still shipping in "Late April." I'm not sure where all the confusion lies. If you thought it was going to ship by now, then I think you had unrealistic expectations.

The wording is not just a case of semantics. There is a large difference between the qualifiers, and expectations should have adjusted accordingly.

Just curious... how do you define "end of April" then? My guess is that you would say April 30th... which is indeed the shipping day.

This is why I was kind of rolling my eyes over the speculation that the Iceland volcano might affect iPad shipments. I mean, a volcano is violently erupting in a tiny island nation whose economy has already had havoc wreaked on it, and small farmers are suffering terrible flooding from melting glaciers. Europe is in chaos as their entire air travel industry is ground to a halt amidst (apparently exaggerated) fears of danger from a massive ash cloud that is clearly visible from space.

And on an Apple fan message board in the U.S. people were debating how this would affect the delivery date for the iPads. I had to lol.

End of April would probably be 25th or 27th through 30th. In this case, the shipping dates match up. However, people are complaining that Apple missed the "Late April" shipping window, which doesn't make any sense.

The point is "End of April" is a different qualifier than "Late April," even though they match in this scenario. My point is, in this case, it's not right to make that separation.

Actually, the shipping date will more likely be the 25th/26th or somewhere around there to make the delivery date of the 30th. People here tend to confuse "shipping date" with "delivery date".

But April 30th is NOT the "shipping day" it is the DELIVERY day. A big and important difference. It will ship in 'late April' (between April 20th-30th) and ARRIVE on April 30th. Absolutely exactly what was promised in the keynote.

Exactly.

Here's how I see it:

The first week of April is early April.
The last week of April is late April.
All weeks in between are mid April.

I do agree with you about feeling let down about having to wait another 10 days, but at least now we have a date.

Well put m8. Well put.

It might mean semantics to some, but the last day of any month is always considered the end of the month, not simply "late" in the month.

Another example for you: If you arrive so late to work that only 1 minute of your work day remains before your whole shift ends, you are not simply "late to work," you arrived at the "end" of the workday. Late would be considered 20 minutes... but you arriving late it in the day to such a degree brings it into an entirely different category. End of the month, is when Apple is shipping.. Most likely they are doing priority shipping which is 2-3 days max, which fits your own definition of "end of April" as 27-30th.

You have one way of looking at it. There are others which are not simply wrong, they are different views.
