I'm quite sure that no matter when it ships, Apple will have it held for actual delivery (like they did with the WiFi version), so that EVERYONE gets it on April 30th. That is also the day that the retail stores receive them. Everyone gets it the same day to keep it simple.

The entire situation surrounding the payment for 3G iPads has been weird. First, some people had account-checking charges right after they pre-ordered (I was one of them, with a $1 charge to my account). Then, the pre-authed for the entire price, right before the WiFi shipped. Not long after that, the charge dropped off. Fast forward a few weeks, and now some people have pending charges, while others are dropping off (mine dropped off yesterday).

Personally, I'm a little tired of Apple screwing with my available balance all the time. I've pre-ordered many Apple products in the past (iPhone 3GS, for example), and this has never happened. It's not that I don't have enough money in my account, it's that it makes my finances difficult to keep track of, especially when my balance is increasing and decreasing all the time.

Agreed, Ditto ...

WWWWWwaaaahhhooooooo mine finally went to priority shipping and have been charged on my bill me later. Gonna make a great week next week. Getting my Ipad and my little girl turns 1 year old. Great times are ahead.

My order status at Apple is still "Not Shipped," but I noticed something weird this afternoon on my BillMeLater account . . . The entire amount of the order (3G 32gb + case + tax) came to $864. That amount has been "Pending" for 9 days since I placed the order. It was there this morning. It finally fell off just now, replaced by a charge dated today for just the case + tax, $42.80. I'm not exactly sure why that would be, UNLESS the rest of the charge is being processed to appear as a completed transaction, leaving only the case hanging out there (which won't ship arrive until the first week of May.

I also used Bill Me Later, and my charge disappeared from the pending transactions section. Since it just charged you for the case, it probably means the iPad isn't ready to ship and the case is. I've been worrying about where the charge went since I first noticed it missing a few days ago, but hearing it happened to someone else eases my stress.

Went from standard to priority, but still pending on CC, wish they would just charge the thing it's only a few days from shipping.

I have had this pending charge for 6 days and it's like 42.00 more than the Ipad total including tax. Do they put Ipad apps in your wish list on your CC as pending?

I just find it slightly annoying they won't change the "Late april" status on the order summary to a date. The wifi iPad pre-order customers had the delivery date listed. Supposedly Apple announced the 3G iPad would be released on April 30th. So then why not update the status?

If it's earlier then list that date. If not, list the 30th. But please, commit to a date already.

Well, according to Apple my case isn't supposed to ship until May 4th so who knows?

I just spoke with a customer service rep, and she didn't know why there have been so many pre-auth charges. She said that, historically, they only do a $1 check to make sure that the account is active, and will then only pre-auth the account a day or two before shipping. She explained that she has had many complaints, and a lot of confused people calling, worried their their orders had been cancelled.

But, she said that the iPads will ship today or tomorrow, and the charge should be reapplied then.

This is getting a little irritating.

I paid by debit card on 4/19 and I had 3 pending charges. two for $1 and one for the amount of the 32gb 3g ipad. today they all disappeared. I am hoping my ipad gets shipped with the first bunch and not may 7.

I wouldn't worry. As long as you ordered it before the cut-off date, you'll be fine. I ordered on the first day and my charges disappeared today too.

Looks like they pinged my card again today for another $1.

If they keep this up the fraud department is going to start declining them.

They just put up the pending charge for my 3G today. Ordered 4/15/2010.

Edit:
That is to say, when I ordered on 4/15/2010, my bank showed a $1.00 purchase auth which stayed around for a while, then disappeared. Today, there's a new purchase auth for $729+sales tax.

I am just hoping it ships with the first batch. I ordered the day they changed the ship date till may 7

Sound like you'll probably get it May 7 then.

They will pre-auth your card when you order, then they usually dont pre-auth again until before it's going to ship.

I'm worried about my bank declining it too. They're over-sensitive about this kind of thing. The last thing I'd want to happen is that it gets declined, and then I have to wait another few weeks for the second batch.

Interesting . . . I changed my order on April 16 (32GB to 64GB) and the shipping has been standard. This afternoon it finally changed to priority. Still 'late April'. I guess this means I should have it on April 30th along with everyone else ;)

Well my tracking was 2Day originally, as I changed it for my Apple case, and that changed a long time ago to priority (I ordered on March 13th @11:30 AM PDT).

Anyways, my case shipped the 8th of April, and has been charged (completely) on my card. However on a brand new statement for this month, my card has a temporary authorization for the same exact amount as my case!

I just called the rep and she just said most likely it is because they sometimes use random amounts to authorize the card, and sometimes don't use the full amount for the actual item being shipped. She said it is most likely because of the iPad (which I already knew) and I just wanted to make sure they weren't going to send me / charge me for another case!

But I am excited for the iPad to prepare and be shipped. And I hope everything with everyone's accounts gets cleared up soon... :D

Applecare moved to Completed Status

so, i just checked my order, because i was bored, i suppose. previously, the dock and vga adapter were listed as Shipped, and the iPad and Applecare listed as Not yet shipped.

tonight, the Applecare changed to Completed. i assume that this means that the iPad is finally moving through the system. i know i wont get it early, but it is nice to see movement.

Ordered a case yesterday after realizing they are sold out everywhere. Honestly I thought I would be able to just pick one of these up easily. Now that won't be delivered until 11 May!

NO charges have been pending/appear on my debit card yet. Purchased it on 12 March so I figured something by now.. oh well, raising a glass and drinking to next week's "supposed" shipment! ;)

My charge is still there for the 16 gig 3G. Still showing a "pending" though.

As I posted yesterday afternoon, my charge finally fell off yesterday after 9 days, only to be replaced by a single new pending charge for the case only. Nothing has changed since then. Weirdness.
