I received my shipping notification e-mail at 10:43AM PST this morning. Fed Ex picked up from Rancho Cordova, California near Sacramento. Delivery will be tomorrow by 3PM. I'm taking the day off from work (I have plenty of vacation time to spare and a month long sabbatical coming in June).

I have a sign printed for my front door: "Fed Ex. I Am Home. Please Knock Loud!!!" (my doorbell is hard to hear and I don't want to risk missing it).

I have to complement Apple. They truly are THE DRAMA QUEENS of the Tech World.

Silly me...when I first put my order in on March 12th for a 3G iPad, I kind of figured that after the initial big push of the Wi-Fi only model that they would just ship them when they became available. No fanfare, no fireworks, just ship when you've got 'em. But they really know how to build the drama and guys/gals like us fall for it hook, line, and sinker.

I particularly like the survivor mentality where they secretly stockpiled inventory throughout the U.S. Then they get us foaming at the mouth delaying shipment until the next to last day in April and just when the missiles are about to strike they deploy their forces.

They really understand how to build to a climax and generate almost religious furor. Congratulations Apple.

Great post. I couldn't have said it better myself! I can't wait until tomorrow morning! Like a kid at Christmas. Hope I can sleep tonight...

I wonder if they moved from one part of the facility to another? That, or maybe they got checked in twice or double-scanned somewhere?

My list must not have been updated. It only says:

Apr. 29, 2010 6:00 AM: Picked up, Nashville, TN
Apr. 29, 2010 4:26 AM: Shipment information sent to FedEx

Chances are that it's on its way to Orlando and will be arriving there in a few hours (if it hasn't already and just not been scanned yet) to be put on a truck to go out on delivery.

Mine says the same Sox

update:

now it says

wow it sat around all day partying it up in Nashville! It better not be hung over when it arrives!

My iPad is somewhere on its way to a San Francisco delivery by 3pm. It was picked up this morning and headed out this afternoon from Rancho Cordova, CA (known for its rich Corinthian leather).

Bingo! you got it, they have 2 separate facilities in Newark, one at the airport itself, and trucking facility about...you guessed it 20 minutes away. I'm in NJ so it's being trucked, others that posted the Newark Fedex arrival stayed at the airport facility to be shipped out by air. It was funny for a moment.

It's officially friday. 12:27 AM and I'm afraid I can't sleep because of how close the iPad is to being delivered.

I pre-ordered this device (iPad 3G) on March 22nd and was slowing dying after hearing people that got their iPad Wifi on April 3rd and I still have to wait till the end of the month.

It's been hard on me waiting this long for one of my most anticipated device I have ever bought. I thought when I purchase my macbook in 2008 that I would never get anything more anticipated than it.

But as the iPad came around and my dream of a tablet before I purchased this macbook, it's finally here and I will receive it very soon!

Now I will only use my macbook to use it for my online classes *uses flash*, adding & editing photos on flickr, and Steam gaming (coming to OS X in May 12)

The rest will be done on my iPad to be as a computer. ( I could use the flickr app and upload my pictures but I use the *auto fix* from picnik online editor that flickr has and I have to do that on my macbook.
I'll be getting that camera kit. Also could use the USB from the camera kit to charge my bluetooth headphones that charges through USB.

This message is long. If you read it all, you rock!

I rock.

Congratulations. You'll love it. It's an amazing device.
Even though I've had the Wi-Fi since launch day, I still feel like a kid on the night before Christmas as I await delivery of my 3G (the Wi-Fi becomes the family iPad).

Why are people saying the 3G shipment was delayed? It was never delayed. It was always Late April. April 30th is Late April. The only drama created is in your head...it's YOUR drama...you created it, not them.

In fact months ago we were told Wifi models would come out first followed by Wifi+3G a month later. It's less than month.

Some drama.

I wonder if they just got around to updating the system or if this is the time their regularly scheduled flights go from Nashville to where our iPads are going. Mine's probably going through Orlando, how about yours? Maybe ours are sitting on the plane right next to each other, enjoying themselves as the flight attendant delivers them a nice beverage and a package of cookies. Since everything was updated at the same time, they might just do everything and then update the computers all at once - another option as well.

I could really care less if it spends a minute in Orlando or a day, as long as it's out on that truck for delivery tomorrow. If it just left now, there is still more than enough time for mine to reach Orlando and be checked in and put on a truck.

I think a very interesting thing would be to see Apple's negotiated shipping bill for all this. I wonder if they have to pay differently or if they're getting a flat rate per iPad, no matter what the efforts by FedEx are to get it to a customer.

If you don't think that Apple manipulated any of this then you must have drank the Apple Kool-aid.

Was hoping the forum might be interested in this:

I ordered a 32 GB Ipad 3G, and 16 GB Ipad 3G.

Both are in transit,

the 16GB are coming out of:
Apr 30, 2010 12:54 AM Departed FedEx location INDIANAPOLIS, IN

The 32GB shipped out of:
Apr 30, 2010 12:12 AM Arrived at FedEx location MEMPHIS, TN

Found this interesting in that that I ordered on the same day at the exact same time and have them shipped to the same address, all charged on the same credit card...hmmmm?

Explain the manipulation. They never announced a date and then pushed it back, at least not for domestic 3G orders. They took orders always promising a Late April shipment. We not only got that we are getting a Late April ARRIVAL as well, which technically was never promised.

So, how did they manipulate it?

My tracking info is showing that my iPad is coming from Rancho Cordova, CA (Sacramento). Sac to Reno is probably three hours by truck, or a half hour by air. It says it departed at 1 pm, so I anticipate seeing it arrive in Reno in the next hour or two.

So it appears one of Apple's west coast warehouses is in Sac.

Rob

I'm in the Santa Cruz area and my iPad is also coming from Rancho Cordova. It's also a 2-3 hour drive. :)

After months of rampant speculation, Apple Wednesday announced a touchscreen tablet computer, the "iPad" for consumers who want to take their movies, TV shows, music, games and reading with them, be it around the house or on the go. Pricing starts at $499, and it should be available in 60 to 90 days.

...

The iPad will cost $499 for a 16-gigabyte model, $599 for a 32 GB version and $699 for a 64-gigabyte model with Wi-Fi only, and will be available in 60 days. It will cost an additional $130 for units that also can use 3G, which should be out in 90 days, making the most expensive model $829. Jobs said AT&T will charge $29.99 a month for "unlimited use" and $14.99 a month for up to 250 megabytes. There will be no contract with AT&T required for the plans, he said.

You know, when the iPad was announced and Steve Jobs indicated the approximate shipping times of the two versions (60 and 90 days), I marked down on my calendar the approximate 90 day mark from that keynote. It was April 27th. :apple:

I'm quite shocked that the 90 day estimate was pretty much spot on -- it's so difficult to predict these things with any degree of accuracy.

Mine left Rancho earlier this evening and arrived at the Oakland facility (about 10-15 minutes away) 20 minutes ago. I am hoping they get here early; FedEx sometimes takes their time getting to my neighborhood.

Hope it doesn't take my route:

Mine went from Rancho Cordoba to Oakland and then it left Rancho Cordoba AGAIN, LOL. I'm sure that's just a typo or whatever but I was like "whuuut? it left Rancho again? when did it go back?"

I wonder how it will get to Las Vegas. Actually, I don't really care.

My iPad is gonna have alot of miles on it when I get it. I live in Ohio it went the opposite direction then it went past me. It's like flying it's cheaper to pass you destination then take another plane back. LOL

Mine is in Oakland, CA in route to Phoenix, AZ.

My debit card was just charged as well in the past hour...it's the 4th time there is a pending charge from Apple but I suspect that this one will finally post.

mine is going thru Orlando, and it left memphis at 3am!!!

I should think there should be an arrival scan soon!!

To bad it will be coming here.... And I will be in Orlando. Oh the irony!

Eta: I checked my balance, I'm broke and they appear to have charged it on the way onto the plane! Lol!!

And, apparently the changing of my payment method to paypal in iTunes didn't freaking work. I'm not a happy camper, I bought a few thngs to use up my balance. I'm ticked.
