Shipment information sent to FedEx

My tracking info is showing that my iPad is coming from Rancho Cordova, CA (Sacramento). Sac to Reno is probably three hours by truck, or a half hour by air. It says it departed at 1 pm, so I anticipate seeing it arrive in Reno in the next hour or two.

So it appears one of Apple's west coast warehouses is in Sac.

So ignore shipment notifications, and tracking info because Apple had a press release week earlier that they were going to release on the 30? Did your ships in april change to Delivers by April 30 like the Apple store now currently shows May 7?

You mean ignore an "estimated" delivery date and focus on an official release date? Yes, that makes the most sense to me. At worst I would've been cautiously excited and then mildly disappointed but not surprised had I been in your shoes.

It's always an estimate, so whats your point? At some point you have to believe it no? So if they estimate it, and change it every day for 5 days, and you wait home for it, its ok cause it was just estimates? At what point are they responsible to there dates and times?

My ipad case was stuck in Memphis for a few days. It finally showed up this morning. The guy was like smirking at me asking me how i got mine a day early. I laughed at him and said a day early? This case been sitting on the ground in Memphis for a few days. He said ahh I thought it was the Ipad. He replied well maybe tomorrow . I said tomorrow no friday is when I read Apple was sending them. He said no they were briefed by management that they have 800-900 for the local area and they would start coming on thursday, but not by the guarantied time of 10:30 but the ground time of 3 pm. I was like 3pm? Where did they get that time from? He said they sent them two day shipping is why. I was like mine says priority. He was like maybe you get it before 10:30. Long story short I don't know if mine is coming tomorrow but some people should be getting these things then. Don't bother doubting my story cause i could care less about your flaming opinion, just passing on a story! Good luck to those lucky enough to get them tomorrow hope I am!

Seems to me like someone knew there was a good shot it wasn't coming tomorrow. If you wasted a day off and waited around for it based on information you already thought was dubious, perhaps next time you'll make a quick call. Especially when EVERYONE is saying the delivery date is the 30th. You've been posting in this thread for days and you seriously expect anyone to believe that you're truly feeling duped?

Hey, who else here is getting JUST the iPad with no accessories? One of the tracking details posted a few posts back shows a weight of 4.0 lbs. I just checked my tracking info and mine shows 1.0 lb. Thing is, I know the iPad weighs 1.6 lbs, so that plus packaging and 4 lbs sounds right. I'm a bit worried now.

Don't worry, it's an error.

Me. FedEx shows 4.0 lbs/1.8 kg.

I also just got a robocall from FedEx informing me to expect a delivery and if I'm not home, I can simply leave a signed note with the tracking number for the delivery driver. I've NEVER gotten a call like that before.

Just the iPad 3G. Says 4 lbs as weight.

Someone just created a thread about this....

OH! Now this is interesting! My case which had originally been scheduled to ship on May 5 is now set to prepared for shipping. Which is excellent news because I really didn't want to buy ANOTHER temp case.

Mine was initially supposed to ship on May 4 but it actually shipped on the 26th, sat in Hong Kong for a day and a half, and actually would've been delivered yesterday if anyone had been home. I signed the form they left and it's here now, waiting for my iPad tomorrow!

Glad to know I'm not alone! I ordered within 2 or 3 minutes of the store coming online on March 12. I thought that would make it a sure bet that I'd get one on release day, but now I'm not so sure.

I just called them to find out if it is still shipping out today (be prepared to wait on the line for like 15+ minutes if you do that), and he told me it was shipping today out of Chicago. That is kind of odd, since everyone else I know who lives in Orlando/Central Florida seems to be getting theirs via Tennessee. So, I guess they are starting to allocate wherever there is supply for the orders that haven't gone out yet. So, he said I would receive a tracking number when it was shipped (which is what they always say). I don't know if that was any help for you, but at least we know they are still shipping them out as of 8 PM EST.

Finally just got a shipping notification!!! :D I hope you get one soon too!

Picked up at 5:03 PM (that's 14 minutes ago) in Ontario, CA. Supposed to be here tomorrow before 3:00 PM.

Now that's a little weird. My iPad went from Pennsylvania to New Jersey, which is the opposite direction of me. I don't like that.

Here is hoping you don't have an experience like we had with our wifi....

You know, the one where everyone elses shipped thru Orlando.... but ours went to Jax, then to St Augustine... and my driver had to leave the route and meet someone in Daytona to get it.

UGH.

SOOOO, Chicago is ok - just hope that it goes to Orlando!

God I hope not. I won't have time tomorrow to deal with that kind of crap. I have a final between 10 and 1:45 as it is.

Yes. It's the way it has always worked. Those dates are always approximate, and the concept of "Hold/Exception" is common in this kind of product release in order to achieve a specific delivery date. Too bad you got fooled. Oh well.
Exactly. The bottom line is that FedEx's and UPS's tracking systems do not handle embargoed shipments. They *assume* every shipment is ASAP, or, at least, as fast as the shipment type (Ground, Standard, 2-Day, Overnight, etc.) allows.

I've ordered many things from Amazon, for example, that were embargoed until a specific date (movies, books), and they also might ship expecting 2-day times for 'Two Day' shipping. If it took only one day in transit, I didn't get them early. ;) In cases like this, the public availability date controls the actual delivery date.

Of course, except for the occasional screw-up by a FedEx driver/depot worker and subsequent punishment by SJ. :D:D

To anyone also expecting an iPad in the Orlando area - has your unit left Nashville yet? According to my tracking, it's been sitting there since 6 am.

im confused by my ipads journey.

it is to be delivered to johnstown, pa...itstarted in middletown, pa, now its in newark, NJ and "on schedule for delivery" haha not looking promising at the moment unless fedex is dumb enough to deliver it from there when there is a fedex portal less than 20 mins from my house.
