I don't see where that thread (the email from Apple) says 'if it says 'Prepared or Not Yet Shipped, don't worry, it's okay'. It just says how to handle 'I won't be home'.

It may be over-assuming to think that's what they meant (that it means 'ignore not seeing 'Shipped').

It says, "We would like to advise you that your order is due to deliver on
time."

Mine is still prepared for shipment, but this email reassured me.

I wouldn't try this...remember he just fired an engineer for letting Woz just SEE the 3g!

The FEDEX employee will get canned and don't be surprised if the person trying this gets canned as well. LOL

Steve is watching...he's always watching...

LOL

What makes you think FedEx is under any agreement to deliver iPads no sooner than Friday? Or that they even have the capacity to sort which packages can be picked up and which packages have to wait until a certain date?

Well... no reassuring e-mail has shown up for me and I'm still stuck in "prepared for shipment." At this point a fedex tracking number would be nice. And I'm in the New England area.

It's on the way!

My friend and I both got confirmations from Apple and FedEx.
32's CA

Delivered by 4:30PM FedEx, Friday

ok Fed ex is lame

I received last night shipping notification from Apple. I clicked on the fed ex tracking number told me delivery was april 29 by 3pm. After waiting half the day for it, I checked at 12 pm to find that they just changed my date to april 30 by 3pm how lame.

I called Fed ex and asked them why they had the 29 they lied to my face saying they never had. Then after few choice words they blamed Apple. I was like it was your tracking website not theirs. long story short they are the lamest people i have dealt with. Don't know why Apple partners themselves with looser companies. AT&T-Barclays bank =lame.

I called Apple, waited long time got some guy who tried telling me i was mistaken. Bad move on his part another jerk trying to blame someone else. I
was pissed, asked for a Supervisor. He didn't want to get one, told me that they wouldn't say anything different.

Spoke to Supervisor after waiting again. He was excellent didn't try and BS me. He looked at the FED EX tracking information and saw they had it F-d up. He saw the date they gave me. He didn't try tell me i screwed up. he apologized and said that it was too late he couldn't get it to me today. I was like fine at least he was honest. He did say he was going to credit me for the price of my case to make up for it!

So lets hope FED EX doesn't SCREW any of US tomorow

You error was likely due to both Apple and FedEx. FedEx probably received the package as a next day air and did not realize it had a hold on it until April 30, so when they entered it in the system the delivery estimate was put to the 29th. After fixing the computer error in the system the date was corrected to the 30th. Blame FedEx for the false info, but blame Apple for putting the hold on your package.

If you have been following the iPad launches or any Apple product launches, you should know that they pretty much alway hold deliveries until the release date and this would be no different. So basically blame yourself for thinking it would be delivered today without actually seeing the "on fedex truck for delivery" status and knowing that the release is tomorrow. Remember that on the tracking page it says "ESTIMATED delivery" not guaranteed delivery. Be thankful that you will still have your iPad 3G before it technically goes on sale tomorrow at 5.

Could NOT be more excited when I went to check my order status and it was shipped!! Followed the tracking number link to FedEx's website to find:

Date/Time Activity Location Details
Apr 29, 2010 1:48 PM Picked up RANCHO CORDOVA, CA

Apr 29, 2010 10:33 AM Shipment information sent to FedEx

The next 24 hours are to take sooooooooooo long to go by!! :D

OK so do you work for Apple or Fed ex? Your response isn't much better than theirs. I get a email shipping notification from Apple with a tracking number and I follow the link that tells me my package will be delivered by 3pm on the 29, and a signature is required. I'm supposed to forget it as false, and pay attention to some press release from two weeks ago?

Do actually believe your own nonsense? Why should I be thankful for something I Pre-Ordered over a month ago?

I'm in the NE area too and got my reassuring email a little while ago, tracking number followed about 30 minutes later. Package has actually been in transit since 7am. When you get your tracking number, your iPad will already be around NE (probably Newark, NJ) and you will it tomorrow, most probably by 3.

Everyone needs to just relax.

The nonsense is thinking that since you told Apple you wanted one over a month ago, that you think you should get it before the actual release date. If you buy tickets in advance to see a movie that is coming out on a certain date, do you expect them to give you a showing before it is released? Apple said the iPad 3G is going to be released on the 30th, not the 29th. You PRE-ORDERED, meaning ordered before it is released. Did you expect it 5 days after ordering or something. You'll get it tomorrow and if the extra day made it so bad for you, send it back.

I got my tracking number finally - and you are so right. Package made its way to NJ today. Tomorrow will be fun! And I will miss this thread! It's been a fun ride. :)

It's always an estimate, so whats your point? At some point you have to believe it no? So if they estimate it, and change it every day for 5 days, and you wait home for it, its ok cause it was just estimates? At what point are they responsible to there dates and times?

Wow you actually got an official release date? You must be special! Mine never changed from ships late April!

If there are more than a couple "leak" of early iPad 3G coming out today as opposed of tomorrow, Fed Ex would get some firebreath from El Jobso....
I don't see why are you so upset because Apple clearly said it will be delivered on the 30th... If someone got it today... great!! it's a bonus. But always expect to get it tomorrow

My status finally changed today to "preparing to ship". Funny, it happened within 30 minutes of calling Apple to complain that it hadn't changed. They told me on the phone that I would get it tomorrow and my status would update later in the day.

Never saw the big press release or all the threads and commentaries here about how the 30th was the release date, eh?

So ignore shipment notifications, and tracking info because Apple had a press release week earlier that they were going to release on the 30? Did your ships in april change to Delivers by April 30 like the Apple store now currently shows May 7?

I'm reading that, but all I see is blah blah blah, me me me...blah blah blah...

The official release date for the 3g iPad is tomorrow. Anyone that got theirs today fell through the cracks.

Yup, I would take the estimated delivery on the FedEx page cautiously. In fact, if mine showed the delivery date to be today, I would CALL FedEx to double... and triple check before expecting anything today.

Delivery date is up to the shipper and Apple can and probably DID place a hold with FedEx so the iPad is stored in their depot for tomorrow's delivery in case it's ready for delivery today. Reason being: Uniformity....

You must have missed the announcement. Yes, the release date of 4/30 has been known for 10 days.

Yes. It's the way it has always worked. Those dates are always approximate, and the concept of "Hold/Exception" is common in this kind of product release in order to achieve a specific delivery date. Too bad you got fooled. Oh well.
