I just wish unlocking or whatever wasnt so risky. I know alot of ppl have done it but I just dont feel comfortable doing things to a $400 phone. Currently Im paying a gophone plan with ATT and a family plan with Tmo. My contract isnt up until end of June with Tmo and as of today they still dont offer pro-rated ETF. Would cost me $600 to cancel 3 lines, or if I just stick it out for another 4 months only $400.

I called Tmo today to find out exactly when my contract was up. Convo went like this:

Me: when is my contract up?
Them: June 28....why are you asking
Me: because Im leaving Tmo
Them: oh, sorry to hear that, youve been with us forever (7yrs), why are you leaving
Me: you dont have the phone I want
Them: you mean the iPhone
Me: yep
Them: have you looked at our Wings
Me: uh, no

i am thinking of getting an iphone, and im using t-mobile with contract that still has several months to go. i understand that iphone has few updates by now, so would i still be able to unlock the iphone if i were to get it?

My bb pearl has outlived its usefulness but i dont want to have to hack an iphone just to use it on t-mob. I've got 10 more months on this contract though.
Same here. My BB Pearl contract with T-Mo is up next September....

Last night my BlackBerry got pwned by two iPhones. They ganged up on me  We were all kicking back watching the lunar eclipse and I pulled out my Pearl to search Google for Aurora Borealis - we were discussing cool things to see at night. Anyways, my crap browser wasn't giving me the best results very quickly, so in a flash two iPhones appear and I watch as they both flip the virtual switch and hit the real Google. All the while I'm drooling at all the little OS X animations I've grown so accustomed to. In no time my question was answered and I was looking at a widescreen picture of Aurora Borealis in landscape mode.

I'm definitely getting the next iteration of iPhone.

Tomorrow will be the day

So i have a Sidekick 3 and ive had sidekick for nearly 6 years now. I broke my current sidekick and Im going to the apple store tomorrow to pick up my 16g iphone. i plan to use the same SIM card out of my sidekick for my iphone if thats ok and change my sidekick internet to the t-zones internet for $5.99. And what i dont understand since im new to this unlocking thing. is it as simple as i guess plugging my iphone to my macbook and then downloading the unlocking programs ive seen earlier? Then if i do that... ill work with the t-zone? Any step by step plans would help too. thanks.

Yes, it's basically that simple. There are TONS of step by step guides if you do some looking. Try www.howardforums.com for EVERYTHING you could EVER want to know on iPhone, unlocking, using it on T-Mo, or any other mobile / service topic imaginable.

Wow, thats a long time. I was a huge sidekick fan back in the day. From the very first one, the monochrome model, to the color SK, SK2, then SK3. After I got the SK3 though I really got burned out with that phone. I think Id had an SK for about 4yrs and was just ready for something new. SK seemed kind of kid-ish to me, if that makes any sense. So I went with a Blackberry 8700 for about a year and a half, and now an iPhone.

One thing the SK wins hands down is ease of typing. I had a horrible time with the Blackberry when I first started out. The keyboard was so cramped. And I STILL have alot of problems typing with the iPhone 6 months later. I have many, many more typos with it than I did with the Blackberry. One of my biggest 'wants' in future update is landscape mode for email. Would make it so much easier.

Help

yah it is Voodoo... way too long i think.

Well i got the 16g 1.1.3 iphone last yesterday and i used 2.4 ziphone to unlock activate and jailbreak from my macbook if that makes a difference. everything so far works fine except for the EDGE. i changed my sidekick plan to T-zones but i still cant get the edge. I have the E icon at the top of my screen but then ill just turn back my house wifi connection. ive turn the wifi off and still no edge. i went to settings>general>network>edge and changed the APN to wap.voicestram.net and left the username and password blank. Still, no edge. Can someone please help me with this?

Also, is there any AIM apps that works with 1.1.3. It doesn't matter if it cost text because i got T-mobiles unlimited text plan if thats easier.

and does the Iphone have the capabilities to send and receive picture text messaging?

Thanks

Got my phone on friday. Used Ziphone and was up and running in 5 min.

PS try using internet2.voicestream.com that's what I used. Edge working great.

No! Stop! Wait!

There's an application called ZiPhone out. You may have read about it on this thread... It works PERFECTLY on 1.1.3 iPhones. You'll save money doing this, have a hand in (and therefore basic knowledge of) you iPhone's modifications. And I've read reports that iPhoneSIMFree corrupts your phone as well...

i dont know how to use that, is it easy?

Quick questions as I am considering buying an iPhone to use on my family's T-Mobile plan. So I need to get it unlocked, but I'm really not interested in putting unauthorized 3rd-party apps on it.

If I understand things in this thread correctly, I can basically just add the $5.99 T-zones to my line, do the Ziphone thing, and I'll be good to go (except visual v/m), right?

Once I do that, I shouldn't install any Iphone software updates unless the Ziphone guy says everything is cool, right?

and if he doesn't give the green light, does than mean I could potentially miss out on any cool features Apple adds to the software?

If the phone does brick, is there any chance at saving it, or are you screwed?

Thanks!

HEY STOP DNT DO A THING!

I just went through all of this.

you buy an iphone,.

unlock it with Ziphone, then call tmobile, tell them you have a iphone, you need to get the TMOBILE TOTAL INTERNET for 19.99 ( NOT THE TZONES IT DOES NOT WORK) then tmobile will send you the updates to make it recieve everything.

Visual Voicemail

does visual voicemail work with ziphone iphones?

on the tmobile network.

New iPhone T-Mobile user here!

I HATE AT&T. I hate them so bad that I decided to do switch to T-Mobile:

What I Lose
- Visual voicemail
- The "Current Location" feature in Google Maps. (Doesn't work with T-Mobile! Anybody else??)
- Pay $175 cancelation fee
- Lose iTunes updates when they come out and instead have to wait for ZiPhone / hacker updates

What I Gain
- Unlocked phone & all the apps and installer.app (but I could've had this with AT&T too)
- FREEDOM FROM AT&T. DONE WITH THEM
- Hopefully MUCH better call quality

----------------
That's a hard sell. I lose so much and gain almost nothing except being free from AT&T. I'm still not sure if I should have done this.

I upgraded my iPhone to firmware 1.1.4 that just came out and immediately after I used ZiPhone 2.5 which unlocked, jailbreaked, and activated my 1.1.4 iPhone in a couple of minutes. One click only! And it fixes YouTube, too. Very, very, smooth.

I then subscribed to T-Mobile's new $39.99 1000 minutes / unlimited night+weekends, plus $19.99 for the Total Internet, and $4.99 for 400 text messages, plus international roaming capability turned on for free.

This is a decent plan.

I really hope T-Mobile is a good, decent company. I hate AT&T so much. Why?

- They deleted ALL my voicemails. TWICE. With no explanation. No access to engineers. No one could explain why. Just accept it. F*** YOU!!!

- They spy on the american people following Bush's orders, although it is against the law / constitution

- Their signal in the Los Angeles area (at least) is HORRIBLE. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. I would get dropped calls on almost EVERY PHONE CALL. Almost EVERYWHERE I go. In my house. EVERYWHERE.

If the call quality is better and fewer dropped calls, that ALONE would be worth the switch and everything I sacrificed for it.

Well, we'll see how this goes.

Can anybody get the "Current location" feature in Google Maps to work with T-Mobile??

t-zone vs. t-mobileweb

What is the difference between T-zones and T-mobileWeb?
In my plan I was only offered to add T-mobileweb for $5.99, would that work as an unlimited plan for an iPhone?

Blackberry vs. iPhone

I have been a t-mobile customer forever and cannot shake my great rate plan to switch to another company. After reading that it is possible to partnership t-mobile with the iPhone, I may consider it.

Question for for those accustomed to the Blackberry...any problems using a smooth screen to type e-mail messages? I barely look at the phone when I type because I can feel where the keys are, this obviously is not possible with the iPhone. Any feedback?

Current location should work fine with tmobile, but you need bootloader 3.9.

T-Zones:
Price - $5.99
APN - wap.voicestream.com
NO username or password
Hacks - Must use a hack to get this to work. I used BigBoss's T-Zones hack from the installer.app.
Notes - Unlimited Internet! This is worked great for me, but speed is under 90 kbps.

Total Internet:
Price - $19.99
APN - internet2.voicestream.com
NO username and password
Hacks - NO HACKS
Notes - Unlimited Internet, and T-Mobile Hot Spots! This is what I currently use, works great. Speed averages from 140 kbps to 180 kbps. Speed increase does not seem like a lot, but it feels much faster.
