They literally just made funny videos of what Mac people are like vs what people are like if you don’t use Mac.

This is incorrect, as those human characters in fact represented Mac & PC computers, highlighting Mac’s perceived strengths. Remember the PC character “freezing” Windows-style?

I have both AVP and Q3. I use the AVP for work mostly. I try to wear it at least 3-4 hours a day. However, I’m quickly learning that the weight of the device is a major problem. The bridge of my nose is sore. Sadly, I’m considering returning it to Apple. I do love the device even though I agree the price is ridiculous. For the price it needs to be perfect. IMO the AVP and the Q3 are not comparable. The Q3 resolution can’t even compete. I would never use the Q3 for work. I consider it a toy/gaming only console.

Haven't I seen this list somewhere here before in the forum comments?! Marky, are you masquerading on these boards! Explains a LOT!

He is right though, the Quest is a lot cheaper. and it has hardware controllers you hold in your hands! because who wants their hands free to type after all?

oh wait..

look, I will say it here. If you want to play games. Buy Marky's Quest.
The quest has decent hand tracking, the problem is his software! His software has no option to control most apps without a controller to go home.

nailed it Quest 3 is a toy, cheap toy at that...I had the same issue with the bridge of my nose, I went to an Apple store and bought a small solo band (mine came with the medium...they thought I was crazy, but I demanded it, lol)...I have the 21 W light seal (people are starting to agree that is the best one)...the small solo band and 21 W light seal solved my nose issue, I could not wear the double loop, the pain on my cheeks was unbearable...I wear my Vision Pro about 4 to 5 hours day, feels so much better...I suggest you go to you nearest Apple Store, and try light seals with different solo bands, that might just do it for you

I haven't used a Vision Pro so I can't make a comparative statement, but I do have a Quest 3. I am a die-hard Apple guy, and the Quest 3 is fine. It does some things great. Gaming with the controllers is a lot of fun. I can use it as a display for my MacBook Pro. The YouTube VR app is incredible. The Netflix app is great for watching movies. The browser is very usable.

To me the biggest disappointment is its lack of integration into my Apple ecosystem (FaceTime, Messages, Apple TV+, Safari bookmarks, email, etc.). This, however, isn't worth $3000 to me. Especially when I can still use my Apple devices via pass through. The pass through is adequate in bright lighting.

I bought the Quest 3 to get a taste of AR/VR before potentially making a larger investment. That likely won't be the v1 Apple Vision Pro, though. I am keen to see what v2 looks like, though.
so you are saying the ecosystem is the killer app for Apple...exactly...if you wanted to dish out the money for the Vision Pro you would, and would love it, because the integration is killer

people really need to stop talking about money with these devices, that should not be a comparison for which is better...it should only be based on the device, and Apple's is better...lol If there were two cars lambo and a toyota, obviously I would LOVE the lambo, but since I can't afford it I get the toyota...however that doesn't give me the right to say oh "you idiots that bought the lambo are so stupid, I can do the same with my toyota"...they are not the same people, do they both drive you somewhere, sure, but there is a reason a lambo is a lamb...lol

- I would be curious to see someone wearing a Quest 3 and another person wearing an Apple Vision Pro and have them play ping pong together to see if Quests latency is good enough
Eleven Table Tennis (available for Quest and Steam PCVR) is one of the most fun VR/AR games out there. No perceivable lag on the Quest. Currently it seems to be the Vision Pro that has latency issues in games:

Not to mention that without the haptic feedback from controllers something like Table Tennis would be much less immersive ...

- With an aftermarket strap my Quest 2 is really comfortable and weight well distributed, Apples looks like you would need to get some after market straps to achieve the same fit
I have some concerns that even 3rd party straps won't improve the situation much, since the Vision Pro is lacking an attachment point on the face interface (where most of the weight is) like most other headsets have. Seems like a case of Apple choosing form over function.

Serious question…what do you use the AVP for 3-4 hours a day for? I went into the store and did the guided demo and agree that it is a much nicer experience / screens / package than my Q3. But…I couldn’t find an app (outside of looking at photos or watching movies) where I would use it extensively. For those who use it every day…what is the killer app/apps driving your usage?

The problem is that Apple is charging Lamborghini prices for a Prius. Facebook is doing its own, different thing.

That’s what Apple vision is going to be. The technology just isn’t small enough. Put on the Apple vision pro without the light seal and you will see exactly what it will be like once it’s in glasses form.
Apple put the Apple glasses on hold. So the VR headset will never be what the Apple glasses should have been. Apple glasses can be compared to Microsoft Hololens - same concept.

If the technology evolves and this kind of technology will be available, Apple could transfer its software from the AVP - but this technology is still far far way.

No. They've had separate Meta accounts for almost 2 years, which are not linked to Facebook or Instagram. They have also introduced some privacy features, such as end-to-end encryption for the optional app data backups in the cloud. You do need to set up a Horizon profile, but it can be set to private with a single switch.

That is a good development. Although - I still have hard time trusting any of my data with a company whose sole business is selling ads targeted based on my data.

Thanks for the recommendation. I will definitely check this out!

Let’s talk about a $200 smart phone vs a $1500 for a moment. Is the $1500 phone 8.5 times better? This is the comparison we are talking about here. Luxury has an exponential curve if you haven’t noticed. The Ferrari is not 10 times better than the ford focus but it sure costs 10 times as much.

I mean buy what you want. You find the meta quest to be more valuable for the cost then go for it. The Apple vision provides me something the meta quest never will and that is worth it to me. The better quality is worth exponentially more to me. The meta quest is not good enough to work in. Yeah you can have multiple pc displays but the quality is so bad you can’t read the text unless you make it really big which defeats the purpose of having more screen real estate.

If you use Ferrari just for commuting, sure. (Racing, not so much)

If you do not mind speed and crappy camera much, $200 smart phone can serve same use case.

With AVP, there is one pivotal difference. For the first time a AR/VR headset is useful for daily work. I believe Q3 is not. I know from first hand experience that AVP is. This is not a continuum - either you can use it for work or you cannot.

I connect my AVP to my MacBook Pro For design/web/video work. The AVP allows me to create massive desktop monitor with the flexibility to work anywhere in my house. Not to mention having multiple windows around me for email, text messages, video chat etc..

I am easily convinced the lenses and screens Apple is using is light years better then what Meta has, and really they should be for the price tag.
Yes, the displays Apple uses. Currently made by Sony (WOLED+CF, IMHO) and some rumors tell me that the next version with RGB-OLED could be from Emagin which has been acquired by Samsung Display.

So in terms of Hardware there is nothing special and everyone (including Meta) will be able to buy RGB-OLED from Samsung.

In the end, all that matters is content and the price, if you want to enter the mass market.

Have you visited Apple store for testing other light shields? They make a _major_ difference in comfort and FOV.

Also, only the ugly-strap can be comfortable for me (for full day use). And only if the fit is just right. The cool looking "default" strap cannot be used for more than 30min.

This thread has some of the same types of discussions that were likely being had 40 years ago when people were comparing the original $2,495 (around $7,500 in today's dollars) Macintosh against much cheaper computers from Atari, Commodore, etc. The Macintosh ended up doing quite well for Apple and I think the Vision product line probably will as well.

you think vision pro is a prius…LMAO what does that mean quest 3 is an oldsmobiles?? agreed they are different, thus comparison confuses me

The fact that he thinks they're the same products suggests to me he's not the target audience for the Vision Pro. One is a spacial computing system, one is a gaming VR headset.
That’s very fair.

He plays video games.

Apple isn’t very good at that is it?

It's a bulky extremely ugly pair of ski googles, with a dangling battery and googly eyes. The specs may be nice, but it's still a clown show. At least the Oculus is cross-platform, and can take an HDMI input...

I wouldn't pay $100 for either of them.

"Spatial Computing" - A buzzword that means only with Apple devices, and Apple-approved apps, and only for one user. Yawn.

Apple needs to stick to the iPhone and Mac.

Lol. If he can’t pay for it he can’t compare it, so doesn’t know if it provides better value. You not being able to pay for a yacht doesn’t make a rubber boat better value. It just makes it affordable for you.
I don’t believe that it’s a fair comparison.

Maybe more like a steak dinner over a hamburger?

Both are enjoyable but the burger offers more value.
