why must the cycle count be under 1000? that doesn't seem right. I should still have the ability of having my battery serviced.

Agreed. The lottery of when the machine would shutdown (between 0% and 30%) meant I went in with simply the intention of buying a battery. I didn't know about this replacement program. However they still ran the check and said it was borderline.

Im not sure where this "1000 cycles" thing came from. I know that is the standard life span of the battery, but it even tells me "replace soon." It's also well under the 80% threshold.

Has anybody had any success getting a new refurbished unit with a battery that had over 1000 cycles?

Hello! Stumbled upon this thread rather miraculously.

Current specs are:

Cycle count: 880
Design Capacity: ~65%
2012 15" rMbp - 2.6GHz, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, US keyboard (but in uk).

Booked myself in a week from now, fingers crossed. Any thoughts on whether the US keyboard in UK will prevent me from recreating others' success stories? Any more general thoughts on specs?

Report from Sweden! Went to Apple Store with a base rmbp 15 inch 2012, battery health around 75%. Chose CRU, waited 10 days. Then got offered a base 2017 touch bar model, space grey. Amazing! 200 dollars for a brand new machine.

I have a mid-2012 rMPB base model. Battery is at 88% / 225 cycles and working well but if it's under 25% and I stress the computer it shuts down. After that it starts normally and still have roughly the same battery level. Basically the battery can't provide enought power when charge level is low. Any idea how they react to these cases?

I took my 8GB/256GB 15" mid-2012 in for battery service yesterday and just got off the phone with the store. They are sending me a refurbished 2016 base model.

Also of note, they offered me a free battery service if I waiting until September. I chose to spend the $199 and get the replacement.

Edit: I'm located in the US Midwest

I went to two AASPs and both immediately told me that there's a shortage, nothing they can do. Anyone has experience dealing with AASPs in countries where there are no Apple stores?

Stats for 15" rMBP, mid-2012:

From System Info:

Health Information:
Cycle Count: 768
Condition: Service Battery

From iStat:

Condition: Service Battery
Cycle Count: 768
Health: 72%

I don't really know what to expect. I'm in the US; have a Genius Bar appointment in about two hours. I've read this thread and the story on the main webpage, but I see some differing accounts from folks. Although perhaps that's a result of different countries, Apple Store vs. Authorized Store, etc.? I don't really know, hence the consternation.

Any advice from folks? Or should this be pretty straightforward?

Interested in your outcome.
The key things are to act dumb. Don't mention what you've seen online. If they only offer the free september replacement, insist/ask if there are any alternatives. Many accounts say that they leave the store having accepted the repair, but only to hear about the upgrade on the phone a day or two later.

Good luck.

Oh, and go back a few pages and read about the dedicated GPU conversation too.

Thanks. Will update.

Is the dedicated GPU convo w/r/t thar recall from last year? I believe they replaced my mobo/GPU/screen for that special recall.replacement program around this time last year.

EDIT: ah, I see now. Ya, the discrete GPU that seems to come and go with the 15" models. Thanks for the heads up, will keep that in mind.

Long story short, some of the 2015 replacements have been found to not have a dedicated GPU. This has allowed some to claim it does not match the 2012, which generally all do. In turn, some of these people have found themselves with better 2015's or even 2016/7s

Has anyone had success with this in Hong Kong?
It's worldwide so yes.
[doublepost=1500984993][/doublepost]Folks who have already received their replacements - how long did the process take? Mine hasn't moved off of "no status available" on the repair site after 6 days (July 19).

I've been seeing a week typically but mine hasn't even changed status yet.

The status on your "My Support" page will probably never show anything – it didn't for me. You should get the replacement in about the same time it takes for a BTO to arrive in your region, so in most cases, 2 to 3 weeks after your Genius Bar visit.

So a few days after Apple ordered me a 2015 maxed out refurb model, I just got a call back saying they had none in stock and are offering me a base 2017 model. Absolutely crazy! No extra charge or anything.

The only issue is that I’m gonna have to deal with buying dongles, but it isn’t a bad trade off from going from an early 2013 MacBook to a 2017 for £199!
