Just saw something interesting when I booted up again. Not sure if it's related why the initial setup of yaboot failed.

I still think it's something to do with the way the partitions must be set up. Might be good to give a step by step on the instructions for people not familiar with partitioning

you can also manually download yaboot, wait a minute...I'll check

in the chrooted environment:
Code:
cd /tmp
wget http://www.u58733p55594.web0093.zxcs-klant.nl/repo/pool/yaboot_1.3.17-4+ports1_powerpc.deb
dpkg -i yaboot_1.3.17-4+ports1_powerpc.deb

Aha, I think this shows the underlying problem. It seems we need a 64bit yaboot package for G5 systems?

Ok, I did that. Then also did the apt get for hfsutils.

Followed the previous steps and rebooted. This time I didn't get the no OS icon ( Progress! :) ). However when it started to boot, I got the following:

No, that didn't help. I did install the 64-bit hfsutils and also redid the yaboot steps just to be sure, but it's still giving the same error.

oops, I guess I have to try myself on a G5. Leave it like it is. I will help you further when I know the problem.

If you still like to try to fiddle around you might want to copy vmlinux that is on the installer medium in the /install folder to /dev/sda3/boot and try to reboot...only if you like fiddling...
EDIT sda3

I’m under the impression that Debian Sid 64 bit is still utterly broken. I did 2 clean installs last night, and after installing the latest kernel, and a DE, it kernel panics while booting.

Sigh, just my luck. MorphOS doesn't work on iMac G5's, seems no Linux is working ( have tried SID and VoidLinux ), and now Mint also seems difficult.

Ubuntu 16.04 should work. Void doesn’t work either?

Using Grease Monkey, vlc browser plug-in and viewtube script is the best way to watch youtube on ppc linux on low end machines. The script even allows for downloading videos to watch in an external player if need be. Just follow these instructions (with links). On my G4 i set it to use SD low quality mp4 for 360p.

Edit: No need for the non-altivec VLC or non-altivec plugin in step 1, thats just for amiga machines or g3's. Just use debian/ubuntu standard packages.

Cheers
Arctic Fox on Linux and OS X is based on FireFox 63?
