Hello guys,
Yesterday I updated my MBP to Monterey 12.1 and it was a terrible idea. Now my Outlook 365 search function is not working and it affected my performance at work. Now I need to open Outlook in Chrome in order to search emails.

I tried to (without success):

-Delete Outlook app (moved to trash) and reinstall it
-Update to preview-release version 16.56
-I added the path /Users/UserName/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/Outlook to Privacy tab in Spotlight and then I deleted the entry in order to rebuild index.

-Exeucted the terminal command:
mdimport -r /Applications/Microsoft\ Outlook.app/Contents/Library/Spotlight/Microsoft\ Outlook\ Spotlight\ Importer.mdimporter

It started rebuilding the Index and some emails started appearing in search results but hours later it stopped working. Any keyword yield zero results.

It's quite frustrating. I don't know if changing the name of Outlook profile or recreating this will fix this issue. I've four accounts (three of O365 and one Gmail) and search doesn't work in any of them.

Please help. I don't know if reverting to 12.0.1 will fix this.
It's more widespread than just "search" issues. You can't create a new contact in the "old" UI version and the "new" UI version creates several unwanted duplicates and indexes data from long ago emails. The new UI version won't even show you how many contacts you have. I can't believe they removed that feature. I had similar problems when I upgraded from El Capitan to Mojave too soon, but luckily I had a recent Time Machine backup to a Time Capsule. However, since Apple hasn't supported TC in a long time, I have a less frequent update and so going back to Big Sur will be painful. Beware, Microsoft not only doesn't care, I believe they just want you to get a PC.

Its apparently a known issue that Microsoft and Apple are working on a fix for. I updated to Monterey 12.1 and the search worked for about a day but then stopped functioning by delivering no results, inaccurately. Tried all the steps with the Microsoft support folks, who have gone way above and beyond on Apple problems... The new Outlook UI works but I do not like the limited functionality. Outlook online does not allow you to add other email accounts that are gmail, yahoo biz/verizon, and other Microsoft 365 accounts, which i have multiple of.

The 12.1 update was supposed to have fixed a lot of bugs with the Monterey 12.0 including wifi, bluetooth, and other strange erratic issues but it didn't.

I originally updated from Big Sur 11.5 to 11.6 and it broke Excel. Every time I opened the Excel app, it started trying to open literally every file in folders on my system and on my cloud drives; pdf, jpg, png, pptx, EVERYTHING. I confirmed it was definitely caused by 11.5 to 11.6 by doing the same upgrade on my laptops and other iMAC i had running Big Sur 11.5. In each instance, the same thing happened.

After countless hours between Apple and Microsoft, i had to upgrade to Monterey since there was no way to downgrade Big Sur to the previous version. It fixed the excel issues but started all kinds of other issues.

Apple wouldn't admit the issues were a result of Monterey, even though i showed them links to multiple sites, including Apple's support community sites where many problems were being reported.

Anyway, i am still stuck in this loop between Apple and Microsoft support - tracking over 200 hours in the past 7 weeks alone just with their support in chat or phone. That does not include the any days and hours i have spent uninstalling and reinstalling the OS versions, uninstalling and reinstalling all my apps, and MOST IMPORTANT, my business downtime.

I am keeping track of the hours i am spending so i can bill Apple for my business costs. When Apple has acknowledged problems they have created, they should be charged back for any losses incurred by customers, which i think is fair.

Microsoft is spending more time helping me with Apple troubleshooting than Apple is, which is absurd.

Those are the same steps people in this thread have already tried. It will not solve the problem with Outlook search in macOS 12.1.
this is the solution and it works for me fine but you have to note one small point, in my case the default application was "Microsoft Outlook" (it was set through "Get Info") BUT you need to re-do setting "Microsoft Outlook"'s introduction to MAC by:
1) drag an email to your desktop
2) Right click & choose "Open With" (even if you see "Microsoft Outlook" is your default mail application)
3) choose "Other..."
4) choose "Microsoft Outlook"
5) tick "Always Open With"

then you can re-index your profile as indicated. I attached the illustration as well.

sorry everybody, again it crashes:mad::mad::mad:
it was working till the indexing ends and again with a new search the result is "No Result"

I think we can all agree that this is a bug introduced when Apple updated Monterey from 12.0.1 to 12.1. Who has to fix what we do not know. Is this Apple or Microsoft? Since Apple is notoriously slow to fix problems they cause in third party apps let’s all hope Microsoft give us a work around in a timely manner, but don’t bet on it. Microsoft really want us to try Windows 11 ?. Back to my Surface Laptop 4 I go, and I can even run Visio again.

After 1.5 days of trying everything I'm glad I found this thread.

Same issues, Macbook Pro 14" on 12.1, and search broke. I did every step in here before I found this thread, tried to reindex, rebuilt the profile, uninstalled, reinstalled, I even switched from a static version of Office 2019 to Office 365 to see if a newer version would help. Everything is still broken . . . I'm waiting it out with everyone in here now.

Changed to the "New" version of outlook, and allowed all my email to sync on their servers. Now search is working because it's unifying it out to Microsoft . . . blah

The new version of outlook has one big problem. Before sending the message, sort the order of the attachments alphabetically, which is unacceptable to me.

Given up, it keeps breaking, moving back to the built in mail client . . . god save me.

I have the same issue with the \outlook search returning "No Result"
I accepted using the New Outlook and toggle to the new interface, Search works fine.... but in the "New outlook" I have an issue where I could not figure out how to creat a meeting invite from the new one?!
Any clue?!!

Hover over the new message and new event is visiible, or go to calendar and it is the default (top left).
Is that what you need?

And if you are on Exchange server you cannot use new Outlook. What a cluster... ?
Almost as good as the bug that stopped hundreds of exchange servers working over the year end! They got that fixed soon enough. Mac users are very low down on the pecking order it seems.

I'm seeing references to other apps complaining about Spotlight search being broken within their app after 12.1. This is looking a lot more like Apple buggered up Spotlight. Not that Microsoft is much better, having not implemented key features in "New Coke Outlook". I can't use it because of the on-prem Exchange server issue. New Outlook has been out for over year??? They both share responsibility, it would seem.

Today, I turned off Spotlight on my MacPro3,1 running Monterey 12.1. It was causing apps like Xcode to hang when saving.
sudo mdutil -a -i off

Could be true, that it is caused by some change/bug in Spotlight but what about Microsoft testing? They definitely had access to Monterey Beta 12.1 to check the Outlook functionality. And they should inform Apple about this issue if Spotlight is really the reason of broken functionality.

I am using Outlook for Mac v 16.56 and have had the search problem since upgrading to Monterey 12.1 - no issues using 12.0.1. Since then I have been corresponding with Microsoft technical team on a daily basis performing functions they requested and providing them data from my computer. I received this final message from Microsoft this AM:
-----
Thank you for the time. I would like to inform you that we have reported the issue to the Apple team as the search function broke after macOS 12.1 update. As the concerned team is working with Apple to try and figure out what could be causing the issue. For time being we would suggest you to search for the emails Manually.

Appreciate your patience and co-operation.

Thanks!

I think that says it all.
Interesting update.....I have been following this discussion and have tried most all mentioned fixes without 100% positive results. I am using these same versions ( Outlook for Mac v 16.56, Monterey 12.1) on new MBP 16" M1. I have been having same problems.

But something is really strange. Twice in two days I have searched but with zero results. I then left the outlook search running and after 15 minutes or more I notice that it is slowly loading 2021-2015 1000s of results. Excited I close the search window to duplicate and just now..... after 5 minutes it has loaded just two messages from approx 1000's over 5 years and under the two retrieved messages it still shows " No Results" . So there is some positive but not usable yet so I'm working email from my older MBP for the time being.

thanks for your input on this Jerry.
