*Not an endorsement, nor do I have experience with this company or product other than a recent good support contact. I think I may have found my new mail client for my 40Gb of archived mails and many folders. I'm optimisitic.

Search for "eM Client".
Go to site and look at Downloads, and version history, and Mac. A version 9 beta for Mac was just posted. eM support indicated v9 has improved Outlook importing. Free 30 day. Free for non-commercial use, 2 mail accounts. $50. one-time for Pro version app.
I exported from Outlook to a OLM file to an external drive, as I didn't have enough storage space on my MacBook Air M1.
I used eM Client v9 to import from that OLM file.
Searches are working in the eM Client app and found emails are sorted in a date view correctly. (When I tried version 8, there was a problem. Their support advised me to wait and try version 9.

I'll update this post, but it may not be today. I'm sure it'll take me time to adjust to it. I've been with Entourage and Outlook for 15+ years.

So far, beta 9 is very good. Search is working great. The Grammarly third-party app is not working when I'm creating a new email. I've searched the Knowledgebase and didn't find an answer. I've contacted eM Cleint support, and also will ask over at grammarly.com. macOS Activity Monitor shows fairly high memory use as compared to Outlook.

eM Client is maybe not bad but is not a solution for us working in the corporate environment. MS please fix this asap and if you need cooperation with Apple, ask them and do it together !!!

The response back from Grammarly support:

Unfortunately, eM Client isn't currently supported. Although we don’t have a quick fix, please rest assured that our team has been made aware of the issue. I can’t provide you with an estimated timeframe right now because the developers need some time to analyze the cause of the issue.

Understood. Capability-wise it looks to be enterprise-level, but yeah, good luck getting your IT folk to support it.

Although other programmes may seem useful, with Outlook moving forward in 365, Microsoft will turn off AuthSMTP regardless of what your admin sets sometime in the next year. This will mean that lots of very capable email clients that currently use AuthSMTP to talk to exchange servers will fail to be useful. We really do need Outlook to work and I cannot see corporate IT departments tolerating much else. It is given the M1 chip being available particularly annoying that you can't just run the iOS version in this situation as a stopgap!

Microsoft and Apple will together fix this in a 16.58 and/or 12.1.1. It's a question of how quickly. The Holidays may add a week or two to the resolution. They work well together.

I'll be fine moving over to Outlooks' new view if/when they add support for my existing folders, but I may just stick with this alternate eM client. I'm don't need Exchange Server, but I know a great many do. I also have a choice in what apps I use, and I know a great many don't.

Some of the recent posts here suggest that Microsoft is saying it's Apple's problem, and Apple are saying it's Microsoft's problem ..... This doesn't give me confidence that Microsoft and Apple will work together on this problem to fix it ....

Just my five cents. Native Mail client is an option when one needs message search functionality only. Otherwise it lacks some enterprise features as was mentioned above. For me they are:
- mail encryption with an USB dongle
- Teams meetings creation (though have heard someone managed to arrange this - haven't dig it myself)

The only possible solution for me was to roll back to Big Sur from backup and keep an eye on the situation.

i am reported today that some of the Windows users also have issues with Outlook search. so is it really the Apple problem or MSOFT screwed it up?

If you you have apple silicon chip there is no way to go to back 12.0.1 unless you did full HD backup before Monterey 12.1 upgrade. Checked with Apple support

The search that the "old" Mac Outlook uses relies on Spotlight, built into macOS. It's not related to how Outlook searches for messages in Windows.

True, but i was just referring to Windows users who seem to be having some search issues like searching with keywords is not returning accurate results, after upgrading to latest version of Outlook on their systems. Although Outlook for Mac & Outlook for Windows are two separate products with different logic, there could still be some common concept in programming logic when it comes to search and indexing? thats why i said, is it really the apple problem or microsoft should take the blame!

I don't know if it can be useful, but I downgrade at 12.0.1 by initializing the disc, installing 12.0.1 with a USB stick and using migration assistant to restore data from Time Machine.

Another odd behavior I have seen is with the "New Outlook" it is prone to having mail stick in the Outbox of my Office 365 account. The stick is only with this account (not my other Gmail and IMAP accounts). Toggling back to "Old Outlook" the mail sends as expected. I found the problem only after asking people to stop sending me requests for the same information I sent them an hour ago. Oops.

I've adapted to using New Outlook only for search and using native Mail or Old Outlook to actually send mail.

For people who have swapped to New Outlook - you might want to keep an eye on your Outbox folder to make sure you don't end up with same problem.

i am thinking about doing this. When you did the above, was it with an AS machine?

Always wait until the .4 or.5 version. No system is totally functional in the.1, .2, or .3 versions.
