Unboxing ... (Moto X Play)

Very fast first boot and looks very swish.

Another plus tour of the OS - the 615 seems very fast in it

And finally a 1080p video sample

Waiting to see battery reviews for the X Play. Considering its running a 615 but sporting 3600 mah battery I'm expecting great things.

My X 2014 has been getting great battery since Android 5.1 despite its 801 and 2300 mah battery.

This was yesterday / today's SOT sat at 17% battery remaining.

The Moto X Style looks very interesting to me,if only it had the Play's battery
As we don't get the Note 5, I will wait for the Huawei Nexus, and if it disappoints me, I will go for the Style.

I wonder it it will under perform on the battery as well? Then the camera in the latest reviews under performs for a 21MP camera. Why can't Motorola get a camera right?

Really poor and confusing camera review - the conclusion doesn't summarise what they found.

Yeah really weird discrepancy.

Even the night photos they posted look very good, with little noise etc.. The review to read and the plus & minus part doesn't mesh at all.

Hopefully more reviews will be out soon, but yeah very disjointed.

I am surprised the battery performance was soo bad. I mean the Note 5 with a smaller battery performs better.
The processor is the 615 and the display is 1080 if I am not mistaken. You would think with what a 3600 mAh battery it should be killing it!

I think this does not bode well for Motorola with the Moto Pure due to release in a couple weeks.
Botht eh St;e and Pure share pretty much the same internals.
They both have the same camera. But the Pure will have a faster chipset and an even smaller battery!
Wow what was moto thinking!

Yeah a bigger screen, QHD, 808/418 on 3,000mAh shouldn't be that bad but the Play seems thirsty so hopefully they've got some tricks up their sleeve.

Both devices are pretty bulky so I'd expect it to be worth something.

That's a great point if this is bulkier to accommodate the battery you would hope it performed well. But some reviews say the battery underperforms.

Then the camera is 21MP yet it seems to have some very mixed reviews. Could this be HTC One all over again?
They added more MP to compensate for past camera failures.
Lets hope Motorola didn't fall into the same trap! :)

Well considering the price I wouldnt expect it to match the high end, the battery would be bs though if it is indeed bigger and gets less sot. That pic MRU posted of the sot is incredible though. As long as a phone can get 3 hours sot I am happy

The sample shots look pretty good in that review. Nice stills. I wonder what the results will be in normal outdoor settings? I wonder if lack of OIS will make a difference? Can't wait for DxO comparisons to the current gen smartphones.

Yeah they are definitely a step up from what we're used to from Motorola and hopefully the style will see further improvement (not sure if it has OIS) but as good as they have improved they are still not going to topple Samsungs S6/S6E/Note5/Edge+ camera, LgG4, or possibly even iPhone despite massive resolution difference to the iPhone.

But if they can at least get into a slot somewhere below those killer smartphone camera's that would still represent a massive leap from what we're used to from Motorola.

Ok so there is the G, then the X Play, Style and Pure? What are the main differences between the X's?

The Moto X Play - is a mid tier priced device. It's 5.5" 1080p screen - but has 5mp front facing and 21mp rear facing camera. It also packs a 3600Ah battery. It runs on an octocore 615 chipset and has 2gb or ram. It has a plastic build.

The Moto X Style (Pure) the style or 'pure edition' as it's labeled in USA is running a 6 core Snapdragon 808. It has 3gb ram and has a 5.7" QHD screen. It has an aluminium frame. It has a 3000aH battery. It has 5 mp front facing camera with front facing 'flash' alongside the 21mp rear camera.

The Moto X Style (non pure) is exactly same thing in the USA except its sold by carriers and subject to their bloat.

Europe will only see the Style without carrier bloat.

Do they all have the same camera? I would rather have the Play if so

Yes and no. I believe the the sensor is the same but the Style may have OIS and also it can record video in 4k whereas the play only 1080p

Both support microSD
