Hey!
I read through the bugs but can't seem to find this one.
Here are my 2 issues:
1: Created a playlist, added the songs, used the playlist that night, closed lid, came back next day at night to use that playlist again, GONE, playlist disappeared. This happened 3 times now.
2: Album artwork and highlighting a song in a playlist without clicking on it, the item highlighted and the artwork of are flickering / flashing.

I called Apple and they connected to confirm the issue, they have asked to install fresh, done, same results...

Anyone have or had this problem?
Cheers!

Almost never have any problems with OS and app updates. But I must say that over the years, no single app from Apple or anyone else has been a consistent clusterf#$k the way iTunes/Apple Music has been.

At some point in the last month or so, I plugged in my iPhone to my Mac. From that day on, I've had two copies of every song on my iPhone. I have missing album art in Music on the Mac. There are several artists in my Library that show the correct album art, but list the wrong artist. It's as if Music has switched the names of these artists with each other. Removing the songs completely and re-syncing didn't fix the problem.

Most of these things aren't big deals, but this morning I decided to try to fix the duplicate song issue by deleting my entire music library from the iPhone and re-sync via a cabled connection to my Mac. I could NOT delete my entire music library using the Preferences/General/Storage tab where you swipe left on All Songs and choose to delete. It left all my playlists, dozens upon dozens of albums and their songs. I then had to manually delete each album by swiping.

I only have 1,900 songs in my library and relatively simple playlists. Connecting the iPhone with the cable and hitting Sync in the Finder window over 2 hours ago and it's not even half done copying all the music back to the phone. With the old iTunes, this would have taken 15 minutes or so.

When Apple removed everything from iTunes so it could focus on just being a music player/manager, they really missed the mark.

</end rant >

It looks like changes to playlist order, made by clicking the column headings when viewed by song (title, artist, etc.), aren't syncing to iOS. You can rearrange individual songs by dragging and those will sync, but the overall view changes aren't syncing.

Can someone verify that it's not just me? If I missed it in the bug list, apologies.

Also my manually created playlist always show up in reverse order on iOS vs the Mac. Smart playlists sync fine.

Music Streaming quality drops considerably when using the Autoplay feature. As soon as it switches to a track selected by Autoplay, the quality plummets. It's still a beta feature for now, so I won't add it to the Wiki unless it makes it into release.

A fun new round of bugs:

  • Songs that are matched, but have been removed from the iTunes Store library for whatever reason (usually older compilations that have had songs taken off them when licensing has expired) will get stuck on download and cause the entire download queue to stop until they are manually stopped. These songs can not be removed from the library with Music. A workaround is to search for the song in Music on an iOS device and remove it there.
  • Mouse clicks in the song list view will often get stuck, fail to register, or cause brief "move" actions instead of playing tracks
  • Moving tracks in synced playlist will often put the track right back where you moved it from
  • Quitting while downloading tracks will take a long time and cause a beachball

I'm having same issue where if I change the order of a Smart Playlist via column heading that it doesn't sync in the same order to iOS

Hi all,

I have a Big Sur 11.2.3 running on a 2018 MacBook Pro

I have an issue with Music.app flagging tracks that I previously bought on the iTunes Store as "not present" on my Mac (there's a cloud icon with a down-pointing arrow) although they are present. So this results in duplicates as I have both the previously downloaded tracks + a second reference to the same tracks with the aforementioned icon/indicator.

I think, but am not sure, that the problem occurred when I changed the "Genre" field of these tracks to match the classification I already have.

Can this be the reason? How to fix this? It's a problem I've had before switching to masOS Big Sur, but decided to post here anyways to avoid creating a new thread (should I?)

Thanks for your help!

This has been something I've been struggling with for a long time. I'm pretty confident the "fix" isn't anything we'd be doing on our end, though.

In your case, how the issue appeared? Is it also when you modified the musical genre?

It’s generally only when I add tracks to my Library now. Each track will double up with the original tracks continuing to be listed as “waiting” and the new duplicated tracks listed as either uploaded or matched. Up until I started on the 11.3 betas, it would happen if I changed the genre or if I changed the track total, or really anything with the metadata. Now it’s just adding tracks. I can delete the “waiting” original track and relaunch Music and just download the song again.

Don't know if this has been posted but for bug #5 I can duplicate the problem playlists and the new one will maintain its view settings, so apparently the problem is a corruption of the original playlist's settings.

Just a general annoyance in OS X is the large "add description" mystery box for playlists. I'm constantly clicking in it inadvertently, bringing up a dialogue. Seems like an odd function to be so prominent. It's essentially the largest button on the screen by a factor of ten, and it's friggin invisible.

The playlist title is similar, in that the field extends across the page, making it another giant invisible button.

"Show: Star Ratings" setting in preferences doesn't persist for me between launches.

When showing artwork in playlists viewed as songs, all the artwork will redraw when changing songs or reordering the playlist.

maybe I don't understand - Bug #5 - is not the playlists but the song and column views - artwork reappears in the next session - see post 140 - for more info

I think Bug #5 and Missing Features #2 are pretty much the same issue - once you deselect "Show Artwork" everthing is fine until the next session - and you again need to CMD+J and deselect show artwork.

For me, that bug only appears when viewing playlists; i.e., when viewing "songs" under the library heading, I can hide and unhide artwork and the setting will persist between launches.

When viewing playlists by song, however, some playlists' artwork setting wouldn't persist. (Not all playlists, and no pattern as to which ones work or not.). But if I duplicate a problem playlist, the duplicate will retain the setting.

That bug did not happen to me etiher for a long time - because I never use it in the "on" position in the column and song views. - see post 76 I think it only happens when you enable it and then turn it off ?

Back then I turned it on to see what everyone was talking about - and voila! - i have been stuck with it since :(

Like I said on that post "Curiosity Killed the Cat" and helped me out with a few new bugs - LOL

If you view a Playlist by Albums it's really annoying you can only see a two rows of albums as the top section takes up so much space

This one really bugs me! I hope they fix this in the next update.
Yep, the biggest annoyance. Well, besides all of the other big annoyances.
But seriously this one drives me nuts with all the wasted space. But I am not holding my breath on it being fixed as we have been waiting a long time for them to do something, anything with this.
