Is it really a hardware tweak ? I think i saw somewhere that it was firmware specific, maybe someone can make magic happend :D dunno cant remember well.

I believe it's a slight hardware tweak with the radios -- not positive. Either way, the April 12th iPhone will come with 6.1.3 and that is not jailbreak-able.

In other words, I cannot get that device because I can't stand iOS without jailbreak.

What's worse, looking ahead, even if I decide to keep the iPhone, if iOS 7 brings some changes I want, but not all -- for example, I don't foresee them going all gesture base, which is how I have my iPhone set up with jailbreak (go Zephyr!) -- I have to make a difficult and complicated decision to either update and lose jailbreak, or keep jailbreak and not get the supposedly big revamp that is iOS 7. If it works out that iOS 7 brings nothing or everything I want to the table, then I'm fine. But if it gets split, then I'm boned.

Like others have mentioned, this is a real sore spot for jailbreak users when it comes time for OS updates. It can take months for jailbreakers to figure out how to crack the latest version of iOS. Months! That utterly eliminates the whole "updates on day one" benefit that iOS users so adore. Yes, it's my choice, but there you have it; caveat after caveat as an iPhone user.

Not to mention, jailbreak is unstable. I have very few jailbreak apps and have eliminated the ones that may be culprits (like Auxo, which is a damn shame cause Auxo was great) yet still my iPhone crashes every few days. It either reboots entirely, or goes into "Safe Mode" which requires rebooting to work properly again anyway. So even if iOS 7 and jailbreak all works out, the instability of jailbreak is just unsustainable.

Having said all that...

You guys can all rest easy. It's looking more and more likely that I am going with the S4 or possibly the One as soon as that decision is possible to make in the US, and will then cease my incessant complaining (or as I'd like to call it, telling the hard truth :p) about iOS.

I thought immediate software updates were becoming less and less important if everything works the way you want it to, or does that thinking only apply to Android?

Did you read the whole post? Jailbreak is unstable.

(As an aside, regarding Android... It's true I've recently been disenchanted from the Nexus experience thanks to the poor Nexus 4 hardware and the then buggy 4.2 software. Still, a part of me looks forward to KLP and updates in general.)

My N4 experience has been top notch, hardware is fantastic and the software is good too. Just some bugs here and there, but I am indeed modifying the OS with custom ROMs and kernels, so can't complain there. Stock was rock solid, cyanogenmod nightlies are amazingly stable too, with the odd bug.

Oh, and for the people uninspired by the Android keyboard, check out Swiftkey. That thing still blows my mind. The prediction is top notch. I wish I had that on my iPhone. Swiftkey Flow saves me so much time. You will wonder how you lived without it.

That's another point in favor of Android. After my iOS-loving post yesterday, gotta show the other side some love. :D

I can't wait to get back on swiftkey. Even when it's not predicting your next words for you the auto correct is superb on it. It's genuinely hard to make typos. It just knows what you mean to type.

Flow is good but it was a little buggy and stupid once in a while when I was using it. It tries too hard to predict instead of putting in what you swiped. And it was near impossible to get double letters in a row like "too" unless it was in context. So if I start a sentence by saying "too bad" it would never get it cause there was no context. It would just come out "to bad". Frustrating. With swype you could still get two letters in a row.

Other than that I love swiftkey too.

Gmail is dreadful on iOS. I guess Google is to blame for this one, but man is the Gmail experience on iOS godawful.

Are you using the stock mail app or the gmail app ? I think people setup gmail as exchange or something like that on iOS.

I was using Gmail to get push. But I'm going to go back to iOS' default Mail app and just fetch every 15 mins.

Gmail Android > iOS Mail > Gmail iOS (what a slow, clunky app).

Only a few more weeks until the S4/One... but the next few weeks will be without jailbreak. =X

How the heck do I switch it back so that when I swipe an email in Mail, it offers the option to "Delete" instead of "Archive"??

Settings > Mail > Gmail account > should be option that says "delete" instead of "archive"....

Don't have in front of me as I took all my personal email addresses off my iPhone 5 now that I use it for work. From what I remember its pretty straightforward though.

It's Settings > Mail > Gmail, then scroll to the bottom and there's an on/off option for "Archive Messages." Turning this off lets you delete messages rather than archiving them.

Fantastic. Thank you guys.

I only have a few days left with my iPhone, but I get so many emails that I delete that I needed this feature even for a days.

Please tell me there's a way to save multiple photos at the same time from my Dropbox to my Photo Library...

As far as I can tell, I can only do it one at a time. Tell me I'm wrong.

EDIT: Further more, not only does it seem like you can only download one at a time, you have to wait for the "Exporting" bar to finish. It doesn't happen in the background nor can you queue it up.

Thanks for the suggestion.

That's cool, I've enjoyed your frustrating journey with the 5. The main thing I've learnt is that no phone is perfect, regardless of manufacturer, OS or carrier. We all have different needs and wants from our smart phones, so diversity of choice is a good thing. Thanks again for your detailed sharing.

I'll stick with my iPhone 4 for a while longer yet!

Jailbreak is NOT unstable, let's all end with this. What you install MAYBE unstable. I have multiple tweaks installed and haven't got a single problem.

It applies the same to Android, some stuff that you install make your phone unstable, it's exactly the same principle

In theory, your 100% right. But the reality is users Jailbreak on iOS to do what iOS isn't really meant to do. Rooting on Android is a differ story.

No need to root Samsung phones though. They're actually the ones that just work. Just look around all the rooted phones are lame LG Nexus 4's, HTC, and Sony phones. You don't hear much about Samsung customers complaining about Android!

Yeah, all those Samsung device sections over at XDA are like barren wastelands. Why would one ever want or need to root/flash a Samsung device.

Samsung releases leaks to their OS all the time for developers to mess with. Thats why there are so many. Samsng is very good about that.

You listed the nexus 4 are you joking me? The reason a lot of people root the nexus 4 is because it is so easy, but most people keep it the same because it is pure android. The reason you hear so much about rooting the nexus 4 is because most people that use the nexus 4 are tech people. Us tech people like to play around with their phones. The average person does not normally buy the nexus 4.
