I'm not here to call you a whiner. Obviously you had some genuine issues with the previous macbooks that warranted repair/replacement. However, if the only issue with you latest machine is 3 pixels, I can tell you that is within not only Apple's, but most all manufacturers/retailers, acceptable variance. LCDs are not perfect. As a previous Apple retail employee, I highly doubt they will give you another replacement on that issue. But I don't know what their "Number" is - 3, 5, 8 etc. So maybe, by the slimmest chance you have a case, but they would tell you take a walk for 1 or 2. Like I said, I don't know where that line is.

I've never really understood this dead pixel thing? Aren't they almost virtually impossible to see? How would you know if you had one? I'm sorry, it's just, I've never seen a dead pixel in an LCD or any sort of display before.

Ive got one on my Nano dead center tis too! I can put up with that but if it was on my monitor near the center i would be pissed. They are noticeable and can be frustrating. Its like having a spec of dirt you cant wipe away. :(

Or in the case of a "stuck" pixel (which still shows color) - imagine a single pixel somewhere on your screen that is always blue, red, or green. This is only possible on LCDs, since the image is not projected onto an LCD, but rather made up of thousands (or millions) of individual pixels that act independant of each other.

Think of having a thousand tiny monitors placed next to each other that only serve to show one solid color at a time.

Oh in that case mine is 'stuck' not 'dead'. Still annoying though! :D Coz its on my nano i cant massage it back to life if it was on my cinema disp I'd give it a go. Thankfully its not.

<--- *See Definition: "Apple fanboy"*

I love the MacRumors members that write/troll/crap on these threads with the comeback "I LOVE MY MACBOOK. NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER. ALL OF THESE PEOPLE ARE EITHER LIARS OR DELL LOVERS!" It's like anyone that has real, genuine issues/problems will be drowned out by the fanboys who swear that Apple can do no wrong, and if a machine is somehow defective, the OP shouldn't have bought it in the first place, or that "Apple isn't for them."
[sarcasm] I have no idea where PC users comments about the absurdity/flawed logic of these Apple "fanboys" comes from and all their talk about some fanboys looking at Apple with cult-like reverence...[/sarcasm]

Theres no way for any of us to know the veracity of the OP's claim, but 5 bad comps in a row, while not impossible, is highly statistically improbable. That tends to make me a little suspicious. And when the OP states:

im not whining

im merely stating facts

and the PURPOSE of this thread is to find out info about what i should do next, not to bitch and moan on here, but what to say to apple, and what phone numbers to call.

If you look at the posts i have, it states perfectly well what the purpose of the thread is.

so lets get back on topic.

ps...i know alot about macs, i have over 20,000.00 invested in mac software, like hell im giving up on them

all im looking for is info, not sympathy.

But he seems to have forgotten this little gem he posted back on the first page of this thread.

its there, its annoying, and now i am seriously peeved at apple right now...im totally dissapointed in the company, and the quality of their products.

heres my list

bought a powerbook-
replaced TWICE

Then they replaced it with a macbook pro
THIS Macbook Pro has had 2 major repairs- Main Logic Board, top case, keyboard, trackpad, DC-in board, Battery, Superdrive

intel iMac-
have had superdrive and power supply replaced- now there is a faint chirping noise coming from the back...PLUS it has a dead pixel
so that needs repair

4th Gen Ipod-
Replaced once

ipod nano-
replaced once

5th gen ipod
replaced once

EVERY SINGLE APPLE PRODUCT I HAVE OWNED HAS BEEN REPLACED OR REPAIRED.

I take care of my stuff, very well, better than most, and this is complete and utterly DISGUSTING how apple quality has been to me. For the thousands and thousands that i spent on apple equipment, i am very dissapointed

Like i said, maybe it's not a troll post, but it looks just like a troll post would. At the very least his reported experience is extraordinary. (Though I went back and looked through some of poolins older post's, he doesn't look like a troll.)

Guys/Gals-

im not a troll...i actually, dont even know what one is...

yes, my statistical likelyhood of having 4 bad ones and needing a fifth is unlikely, but, true. The only way to prove the validity of this thread was through the reciept photos i posted. If you dont see them, look back in the thread, u will find them.

The true reason for this post is to get in

But what the hell does the OP want us to do? It becomes a troll issue when the conversation goes like this:

Poster 1: My MBP has so many issues!
Poster 2: So take it back.
Poster 1: But what is wrong with Apple?
Poster 3: We don't know, my computer is fine.
Poster 1: But mine has SO many problems.
Poster 2: So take it back.
Poster 1: But everyone has to agree with me that Macs are crap because mine are *faulty*
Poster 3: Troll...

I mean seriously what do you people want from us? Do you actually think we're all just gonna sell our Macs and talk trash about Apple because he can't seem to get one that meets his standards? This person seems more angry about the fact that we all don't agree with him than he is about having a stuck pixel.

You know, after reading this thread again, maybe Macs are as crappy as he says. I think I'll throw all 75+ of mine into a dumpster. Yeah... that sounds like a great idea. What's that Dell phone number? I need to order one right away.

Sheeesh, I dont really have a response for all that  but....I just find it sort of weird that you would call him a troll because hes having troubles with his machines. I had to send 4(four) iMacs back, 2 iPod Nanos and 1 Powerbook. IMO, Apple stand for **** quality. Great OS but **** quality. :(

Edit: I have to add however that this is MY opinion and it might very well be the worst case of bad luck ever and I know that a lot of people have working machines and a history of reliable computers. I hope to experience this myself someday :)

No, I did not say he's a troll for having trouble with 5 machines. I clearly said he's seems like a troll for constantly repeating himself as if we're supposed to do something about it in a very troll-ish manner. Did you not read the example conversation that I had inside the text that you quoted?

just to update everybody a lil bit...i figured out the number to customer care thanks to a macrumors member that pmed me.

im in contact with them now, and hopefully something will happen to figure this Crap out

to all that said i was a troll....dont always assume, and lets keep these threads on topic :)

Being a troll doesn't necessarily mean you're lying. It just means you're obnoxious.

WELL

i called apple
and they said basically screw you, its within tolerances, so sorry.

DOES ANYBODY KNOW ANY MEDIA OUTLETS, macnn frontpage people...BASICALLY i want to get some publicity from this...because apple should be held to higher standards, and 5 macbooks is crazy (apparently ive forgotten one reciept, and therefore, i know am on macbook number 5 needing 6

I NEED YOUR HELP...PM, E-Mail me, Heck, Pm me for my phone number....I wanna get the word out on this...i want this damn macbook replaced!

It is within tolerances. I don't think you're going to get much from this, since a lot of companies have similar tolerances of dead or stuck pixels. I think you have the misconception that only Apple has this problem.

I'd probably give you more credit if you said "lets get publicity so that ALL computer manufacturers reduce their dead pixel tolerance to zero" - however since you single out Apple, I cannot support that.

I'm sure front pages everywhere will be competing for your shocking story of a MacBook with 3 dead pixels that Apple wouldn't replace. Seriously though, having exchanged four MacBooks before this only hurts your credibility. Drawing attention to yourself in this case would make you look bad, and I doubt Apple would care. On the other hand, if you keep calling Apple or bringing it into Apple retail stores, you may eventually wear them out to the point where they will do the exchange.

The trouble here is Apple's hardware is priced significantly higher than the competition, other manufacturers may be operating on razor thin margins and hence can't afford to replace machines because of dead pixels, but Apple?! Why can't they? Where is all that money going? Not towards better quality LCD panels apparently.

Not to go off topic, but...
Do you really not understand that little price difference? If dell sells a billion computers and only makes $1 on each, and Apple sells a thousand and makes $100 on each one, Dell has still made ten times as much money. It's why mom and pop stores have higher prices than Walmart.
Also, Apple claims to be a hardware company over a software company, yet OSX is what is valued so much. I'm betting some of that hardware money goes into making better software for us. And if you can see where your extra money is going when you look at a Macbook Pro over a similar Dell, you are, pardon me, Blind
But that is just my opinion...

I thought I felt bad for you. Now I don't.

Your computer is within specifications. Get over it.

Although the Thead starter is being a douchebag, if you pay over a thousand dollars for something, It is not unreasonable to want a new one when there's dead/stuck pixels in the middle of the screen. That's horrible, I cherish my macbook, every curve, everything on it, paritally because it's so amazing, partially because it was a lot of money (to me) so if the screen had stuck pixels I would definitly demand it be fixed.

I wouldn't expect an apple representative to look at dead pixels on a new macbook and say "that's normal, it's within specifications" or any salesperson for that matter.

Does that mean I have to defend Apple's mom and pop model?

So.... Dell stole Windows XP licenses from Microsoft for free?

And don't even compare a Mac with a "similar Dell", for the price I can compare with a Fujitsu or a Samsung even. Yeah.. I really question where that cash is going.
