A person i know said that HD 4850 in iMac is a desktop card, but it's smaller. So, it's a little slower. I suppose that it's equal to HD 4830.

Exactly. Which is why I am not buying the 1156 socket chipset, its a bit too limited for my taste.
It's enough for the mainstream and PCIe 2.0 x8 isn't that limiting for dual GPU scaling.

Really how much of a difference would it make, when I overclock my QPI from 4.8 to 6.4 in cinebench there is no difference. I've timed both I believe 54 seconds on the image.
QPI has plenty of bandwidth. It's just the PCIe lanes you get from the X58 platform over P55 for connectivity.

Block diagrams are always fun.

X58 diagram... notice the higher potential....

Also, typo... I meant before QPI makes 6.4GT/s which is roughly 25.6GB/s. DMI still caps out at 2GB/s theoretical.

Lynnfield has an onboard memory controller and PCI-Express 2.0 one as well.

The problem is that you only get a few lanes over DMI for stuff like USB 3.0 or SATA 6 Gbps. QPI connects to the X58 chipset which handles 36 PCIe 2.0 lanes for GPU and crazy I/O peripheral goodness.

Both the core i5 and i7 have a onboard memory controller, but yes only the Lynnfield has the PCI Express controller built on to the die I believe. Also the core i5 has only a northbridge or intel calls it something different i'm just to lazy to look it up vs i7 has a north and south bridge.

Well we didn't see LV Xeons in this iMac so if you want a Core i5/7 core, Lynnfield is going to be the way to go with 95W TDP processors and a 4-5W P55 PCH.

There isn't much difference in a 4.8GB/s vs 6.4GB/s because of memory clocks and such.

But in an 1156 system there is, because DMI is clocked up to that specification. Sure you can overclock, but for that case, just go with the 1366 socket which allows greater overclocking.

Correct but it just shows there's a bottle neck else where, because changing the QPI increases the bandwidth to the processor.

Finally... my iMac i7 being shipped.:D

It shipped from Shanghai to Sydney Australia.

Congrads I really like the new iMac's and for the price its a really good deal, it would cost the same if not more to build a hackintosh, the display costs at least 1200 from dell or 1800 from apple. Yes the resolution is a little bit worse. Still the nicest AOI apple has come out with.

We can only dare to dream... uni expenses are murder..... *sigh*
oh yea dont i know about it! im on holidays after 3 more exams thank god! time to earn some moneys

thats the reason why i am getting the iMac too! a hackintosh will virtually cost about the same price once you include the incredible screen. sure a hack can be OC'd and tweaked but its too much effort and i already have one haha!

I haven't had a trip over the pond in sometime but yeah the last time I was over there a pack of smokes costs me I think 5 or 6 pounds 13 american. It was nice pre bush dollars vs post bush dollars, exchange rate and all. Anyways striped SSD would be just about sex, if were dreaming I would get Intel SSD random rights are better but at 599 for 160GB its a dream damn newegg for screwing us but that's price and demand.

Yeah I just built this rig in March, but in a few years who knows as long as apple keeps these kind of prices. You always have to buy it right as it comes out to be a good deal, funny to me how they charge the same price thought the life cycle, but some good deals can be had at the refurb site. I got a unibody MBP that retailed @ 2500 for 1449. I know its way out of left field but oh well.

Remember, the 24" only has a Mini-Display adapter for video and USB for audio. That's it.

So, DVI-DP won't work.
sorry, meant mini DP. i provided a link to one that you could buy. $30 aint much.

yup thats why i am buying now. getting right on it. upgrades to CPU over the next year wont be that much of a change really, so im happy to invest now. nice change of subject to MBP :p

I'm going to start a new thread about what to make my next hachintosh, ok get ready a G4 Cube or a graphite G4 really want to piss off the fans boys and say something like put good hardware and not crap ppc in it really get them going. Even though I loved my PMG5 DC 2.0 Ghz Again I know off topic.
