Yeah even I walked into the apple store and my eyes gravitated towards the nano display. It was very sharp still on the 16" model despite people warning me there is a 'loss in contrast' it still looked fine
100% going for it
I can't tell the difference in sharpness at all, contrast is fine too. Now I regret getting the glossy display, as well as on my iPad. All the reviews made it sound like a huge downgrade.

I think the iPad Pro's one was not bad but i was surprised they didnt apply the whole coating to the entire display leaving a disconnect between glossy bezel and touch/nano surface.

Usually nano textures shouid cripple contrast as it's a matte/dispersing layer but this one i looked side by side and it wasnt as obvious so i will pony the diff for the new mbp...
although now my waiting time would be 2-3 weeks

I got it today. The contrasts and blacks are fine and still very sharp. The images look almost painted onto the display; it’s quite unique! I use dark mode and it looks sleek but the only time i don’t really like it is on white web pages/backgrounds. That’s when you notice a slight haziness/smokiness. Looks like I have a screen protector on in that scenario

People who need color and image accuracy aren't probably going to buy this, unless they need to use it outside. Any reduction in interference for reading documents, which web pages are, and everything else I view, mostly, I need to grab this option.

Matte screens are preferred for content creators. Not to mention the screen is as color accurate as the standard glossy one, so not sure where you are getting that it’s not accurate at all.

Here's a photo of the nano display on my 16" Macbook. Also, the left studio display is nano, while the right is glossy for comparison. I have a really bright white desk lamp off to the left. I'm glad I went with the nano.
Looks great. Can you confirm - how does the nano texture work with the notch - is the whole notch glossy or just a camera hole, or something else?

My take on it is this: had apple applied the nano texture to the border of the iPad, it would have left the Face ID + camera array exposed like a sore thumb. So that's why I think they chose to leave the entire bezel glossy.

This is exactly how it feels on my iPad Pro - all content it's painted / printed on. It's quite exceptional. It actually feels like a wonder for me to use every day. I take the train each day, with sunlight outside, and using the iPad feels like I'm looking at paper.

Anyone thinking of going with the Nano-Texture option on the new MBPs?

I've been using the iPad Pro M4 with Nano texture after being fully converted as to its merits, but it's only available on the 1TB model and upwards for the iPP.

I see that Apple hasn't put any such restrictions on the new M4 MacBook Pro - you can get the Nano-Texture option with the base model.

I went nano texture without a second thought. I've always disliked the glossy displays and additionally have had one of my macbook pros impacted by staingate. Given nanotexture is not a coating, i do not expect it to get worn off very easily.

In terms of cleaning it, i will be using isopropyl alcohol when i need to remove dirt/grease - without some sort of liquid to liberate dirt and transfer it to the cloth all you're really doing is pushing it around.

I also went for the standard for the simple reason that I do not remember the last time I was bothered by the sun while on my laptop.

Who works at the beach here ? 😂

Its not just the sun - your own reflection, indoor lighting, etc. all reflect on the standard screens pretty badly.

I work next to a window every day, so i really don't like the reflections.

I'm mostly concerned about the durability of the nano-texture, as a laptop screen is more prone to contact and needs cleaning more often than a desktop in my experience.

If the contrast in darker rooms is pretty close to the glossy version, it might be a good trade off.

I wouldn't be overly concerned. Its glass. Its harder than the plastic keys that might touch it. And its not a coating like the regular screens that comes off.

So long as you're not attacking it with things harder than glass, it should be OK.

edit:
My nano texture 14" Max is due to Western Australia between 14-19th November.

Oh great, I was just going by comments here not actual experience. Good to know this if it's the case.

I don't think we always appreciate how wearing glossy screens can be for our eyes. They're constantly reflecting light back into our retina. I've noticed far less eye strain using my nano texture iPad.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, glossy looks amazing in a dark room. But i don't work in a dark room 8+ hours per day :)

My existing m1 pro is glossy. Probably going to cancel my trade and keep it in the household for the GF, we can use that one for watching movies in bed, the nano can be more for work.

The nano-texture on the iPad Pro is incredible - simply because it's so inconsistent across lighting conditions and massively reduces eye strain. However, it might be a good idea to wait to see one in person to see how its implemented on the MacBook Pro, as there may be a difference compared to the iPP which has tandem OLED.
how or why does it reduce eyestrain?

People who do work in a dark room don't use glossy. We need to grade for cinema, print, a variety of media and devices. If we use high contrast glossy our material would be inaccurate and inconsistent across the various different delivery targets.

We've been waiting for years for matte displays to return but until the last few years manufacturers didn't have a decent method to reduce reflections on glass. Now they can. Samsung has also reduced reflections on their latest laptops but not nearly as well as Apple's nano texture.

Is the nano display on the MacBook Pro better or the same as the one on your Studio Display? Thanks for the photo.

Just received my nanotexture MBP and it's just as good as expected coming from a nanotexture XDR display. iPad Pro is still considerably better as it has none of that horrible miniLED blooming but that is something we have to live with until Tandem OLED comes to Macbook. The nanotexture option resolves a long-standing issue I had with convincing people to switch to Apple. It was basically the main response "I don't like glossy displays". And I can finally get 1000 nits without third party software although it seems to be limited by the actual brightness of the surroundings. I can't actually get it up to 1000 nits, it seems that might only work outside in the sunlight. That's how it is on iPad Pro as well.
