Checked out Nano texture on the MacBook Pro and iPad Pro in store.

I love it. Total game-changer for me.

Now trying to watch content on my glossy screen iPad Pro feels like trying to look through a mirror 😂

Yeah, it's really hard to go back to a glossy display once you've used the nano for any length of time.

Took a stop by the Apple Store to see the Nano display in person. Especially with all the positive discussion of it here on the forum. Wanted to see if I needed to shift my Standard Display order around. The answer for me is a solid no. Nano definitely reduced glare, but didn't look like the right screen for me at all. So I'll be keeping my standard display.

Just received my nanotexture MBP and it's just as good as expected coming from a nanotexture XDR display. iPad Pro is still considerably better as it has none of that horrible miniLED blooming but that is something we have to live with until Tandem OLED comes to Macbook. The nanotexture option resolves a long-standing issue I had with convincing people to switch to Apple. It was basically the main response "I don't like glossy displays". And I can finally get 1000 nits without third party software although it seems to be limited by the actual brightness of the surroundings. I can't actually get it up to 1000 nits, it seems that might only work outside in the sunlight. That's how it is on iPad Pro as well.
Context: my 27" monitor only goes up to 300nits... it's a 2017 gaming monitor.
When I tested the M3 Max friends one before when he lent it to me to try and work on it for a week, 600nits [100%] was way too bright for me so I had to knock it down to 50% [300nits on avg] indoors. But the glossy display would luckily not pick up my ceiling light as the distance is very high [2-3m] so no reflections luckily.

So this 1000 nits new m4 max im receiving soon would most likely be on 25-30% loll based on my above

Few review unit videos did delibrately put a bright phone flash onto the ambient module to get it to 1000nits so does match up right with what you're saying that it's most likely 'outdoors'.

I felt the same when viewing the IPad Pro with the nano texture in an Apple Store. I literally hated it and actually wrote a whole podst about it in these forums. But after I got to use one out in the wild I was converted. The Apple Store lighting doesn’t flatter the nano texture display IMHO.

I ordered one without and have nano screen FOMO after reviews. But it seems it’s not universally liked, kinda unhappy how the reviewers can’t be a bit more balanced about it.

If you've been happy with MacBooks before, I'm sure you'll be happy with the non nano texture screen. Its the same screen as before.

But, if you've had matte screens before (e.g. PC monitors, pre-retina Macs, etc.), and miss the non-reflective surface you know what you're missing. You do give up some "pop" but depending on how you use your machine maybe its worth it.

Apple has an extended return period at the moment - maybe see if you can find one with matte in store to check out (maybe even a demo iPad Pro for comparison) and see if you think its doing a return?

Artisright mentioned in a recent online comment that he will likely do a separate video just on the Nano Texture vs Glossy screen. His review would be from a Photo/Video Editing perspective.

Very true. I had the exact same thoughts while shopping for an iPad a couple of months ago. The lighting in Apple stores interacts with the nano coating and causes the display to look hazy. I took the word of people here who mentioned that effect and that it wasn't present outside the AS. I decided to go ahead and get an iPad with nano texture and I'm glad I did. So I did not hesitate to config my M4 with nano coating.

It's a regular matte display. If you like Matte displays and dont mind paying $150 for it to Apple...then get it. If you like glossy and dont work outdoors a lot- then get that.

I order a nano texture 16 inch and got it on release day. Are they stocking nano textures in apple stores or best buys or is is a custom configuration?

Not that I've seen. I went to an Apple Store yesterday to check them out. I asked if they had the M4 Max 16" in stock (nano Texture) and they told me that they are all special order (at least for now). Your mileage may vary from store to store though.

I stopped by the Apple Store to check it out like many others and my reaction was mixed. The store had the nano sitting next to the glass model and I put on a 4K YouTube HDR video on each to compare scene for scene. It looked a lot better than I expected but there was a bit of washout I guess I would say. I didn’t notice any difference in text clarity though and I can see it being much easier on the eyes. I might stop by at lunch tomorrow to play around with them a bit more. I liked it more than I expected but it wasn’t a feature I’d order a new MBP just to get.

I went to see it in store and it looks amazing IMO, surprisingly much better than I expected. The "crispness" isn't reduced that much. I'd get it if I didn't have to pay for it lol

Apple Store is not a good place to get a potential purchase viewing, in my opinion. Viewing and using at home (or work) will give one a much better view of user results.

just came from apple store. It took a flashlight of an iphone to understand that i am looking at nano - it is that good.

Text is crisp, the whole screen looks like a little bit darker version, i guess 1000 nits do help out.

I took macro pictures and no difference between models except 0 glare.

Then i took at an angle macro and there was a slight contrast drop.

Verdict: awesome screen and the way to go, unless one uses mac at a weird angle like lid half closed or all the way to the back - as long as looking straight at it then it looks great.
