The horse is dead, quit kicking it.

Yeah... The whole thread is bogus anyways:
  1. We are not 6 months in as the title says... The X has been out 4 1/2 months
  2. Apple says the X is the top phone since it was released. I'll take their verifiable numbers over a random person on the internet

I get that some people think it's too expensive. That keeps them from buying it. Their loss. It's the best iPhone ever by leaps and bounds, hands down. Worth every freakin penny.

Agree.. I personally think it's $100 over priced but that didn't stop me from buying it and it's the best phone I've owned as well..

I've wanted a large screen in a small form factor for a while and that alone was worth the extra cost to me..

I live in NYC - I see a lot of Xs in the wild. My point was that I also see many more people not upgrading where as in prior years, a larger percentage people upgraded to the latest phone.

It's pretty much everywhere in Silicon Valley, and it gets more concentrated in San Francisco... tells you a lot about the tech-obsessed population heh.

If I felt I was losing out I’d have footed the extra cost. It’s a personal decision at the end of the day and what you think is absolutely worth it, others are happy to skip without a sense of loss.

I would be gobsmacked if it wasn’t popular in its own backyard. The only two brands I see in my part of Wales is iPhone and Samsung and the latter being to the lesser degree. In the corporate world the iPhone is pretty much king and the company phone of choice, but the iPhone 6S and 7 are commonplace whereas last years releases are rare.

I think location has a lot to do with this too and there’s no denying the X has been the most popular in the US compared to other countries.

iPhone X is the best iPhone ever made period.
What I find creepy is people trying to justify not being able to buy it with arguments such as "it doesn't bring anything groundbreaking from *insert my iphone model here*"

So you just need to insert "anything groundbreaking for me from...", which is a perfectly valid sentiment. Use whatever you feel works best for you.

Heh ok, im loving my X to death tho, such a lovely device and a joy to use.

But to each his own i guess
Welcome to over-spenders anonymous. The first step to recovery is to acknowledge that we "paid too much". I mean, it doesn't do anything any different than an iPhone (insert model of choice here).

It’s significantly more expensive than the iPhone 8 so it’s hardly ‘creepy’ to want to justify the need to spend more on it. I think you found the wrong page in the thesaurus with that description and realise it’s referencing our earlier conversation. I was just being honest and don’t need my justification to be shared by others as I’m far from a minority with my choices.

Well it doesn’t but that’s the same for any smartphone these days not just the X. The same mundane necessary everyday tasks are achieved whatever iPhone you use, we just choose to upgrade because we can or feel like it.

I'm not talking specifically to you. It might not be worth for you to purchase the phone but my point stands that most people either the ones who buy the previous or the newest phone always want to justify their purchase. Same for X owners.

Human nature. People who don’t justify their purchases are either idiots, frivolous with money or money is not a concern. Most people will justify most if not all purchases. I would say that’s common sense though. I can easily afford an iPhone X and could probably buy both my daughters one if I really wanted to, but I can’t justify it for what it is and that’s what doesn’t sit right. Much like the £1100 bill I had for my car two weeks ago, but that was more necessity than justification.

Isn’t liking a product and having the cash not justification to yourself then?

What, other than the price, then do you not like about it?

The notch? It's going nowhere anytime soon. Gestures? Again, going nowhere anytime soon. OLED? Apple might have an LCD version end of the year if rumors pan out.

I think anybody who is overly fashion conscious of what a phone looks like falls into that camp.

Look at the 8 / Plus and the X side by side.. One is a dinosaur and the other is sleek and modern..

Being fashion conscious has nothing to with it from my stand point..

As I’ve said probably more than a dozen times on here, I’m not anti any of the new features on the iPhone X. I just don’t feel I need them bad enough to pay a huge premium. iOS is iOS and the experience is largely the same on any of the current and recent iPhones.

The iPhone is a social and business tool for me so comparing side by side is of little interest. It’s what’s on the screen that counts for me, not the shiny case. I don’t feel my current iPhone looks dated in appearance as it’s synonymous with what you’d expect a modern smartphone/iPhone to look like. I don’t need to over analyse.

Things I didn't like about the X:
Price
Weight
OLED/PWM
glass front and back
notch
did I mention price?
change in how things are done (yes I am older and don't like change much, especially change for the sake of change)

As to fashion consciousness, your comment, in some circles, would be the height of fashion consciousness. Just sayin.

Those are very good arguments agains't the phone, may I ask why you don't like OLED and the glass front since all iPhones have a glass front?

I should have said only glass back, was in a hurry and didn't proof read. As to the OLED, I noticed the flicker immediately in the store, found it unsettling, that's the best way I can describe it. I have a theory but it's only that, a theory.
