Worked for me

The Video Screen cast worked perfectly for me. I have got full bars on my 3G network and I found that Its not much slower then a 10 mb/s router.

Its so cool that I can do this. I have not got Apple's Mail to work. Could some post a tutorial on how to set that Up??

It would be much appreciated.

Video would be nice or else a regular text and picture tutorial.

Thanks

Wake up, AT&T!

I was one of the lucky ones to download this app, and have followed every tutorial to the T. No luck yet, but I'm still trying...

You know, I might get flamed for this, but instead of letting a developer get a one-time $10 fee and letting people tether their iPhones, AT&T should realize they could charge $5 or $10 per MONTH for people to tether! Just more gravy on their "unlimited" data fee they're charging.

I was also having a lot of trouble getting it working, but was finally able to. I'm using a macbook pro with 10.5.4. I would setup the network on the mac and then the iphone and open netshare, then open Safari and get a page saying I wasn't connected. I had neglected to click the "apply" button in the network preferences.

So I was able to get it working once, but then stopped it and tried again with no luck (this time I HAD pressed apply). In order to get it to work I had to make a change to the network settings (I went into the proxies and retyped the socks proxy port as 1080 even though the setting was already correct), then click apply again and it worked. For some reason it's just not retaining the settings for me even though it shows that it does. Hope this is helpful for some who can't get it working.

Hey guys,

I registered here to get some help troubleshooting Netshare. I got the app on friday but I have been trying since and have no luck making this work. I followed the great tutorial video that was already posted in this thread step by step as accurately as I could and still now luck, let me explain a little bit of what has been happening with me. I create the iPhone network and location, entered the IP address and enabled the Socks proxy. Than, on the iPhone itself, turn on WiFi, locate my iPhone Tether network and connect. I have the WEP protection on and the iPhone automatically detected the Static IP so I did not have to enter it. Once I connect on my iPhone and enter my password, I try to back out of the settings menu to go to Netshare, I see the ip and the port as it should be in Netshare but instead of the 3G or E logo on the top left of the phone, I see the wifi logo. Something isnt right. I try to browse on safari and it doesnt work. I have tried restoring the iPhone already with no luck. Anyone else had similar issue that can help me?

Im using OS 10.5

^^

Mystery.O,

Try going through the instructions of the first post on this thread... ie no "autodetect" for your IP. You may need to take the time to manually set it up. Also, did you try getting it to work before you WEP'd your adhoc network?

Keep it simple before you try to make it complex. Should work if you set everything up manually.

PLEASE post NetShare tutorial for 10.4.11!

I've been trying to set it up for a few days. Still no luck. If you've been able to get NetShare to work with 10.4.11, can you please post a tutorial or let me/us know how it differs from 10.5...Thanks!

Thank you thank you thank you

I was lucky enough to get netshare when it was up for the second time.
And I couldnt get it working until I followed these instructions.

It rocks.

Does anyone know how to make Skype work with netshre and I will be the happiest camper ever............

Thanks again.

Alleballe.

For Skype, haven't tried this yet but will later, try going to Preferences, Advanced and change the port?

pshyeah...that won't alert AT&T that you're tethering against there wishes

How do you secure the wireless Airport network in this setup? Seemed to only support WEP 40 or 128 bit password.

I was one of the lucky ones to get it from the app store also. I'm loving it so far but I hope At&T dont try to charge me. Im at the beach posting it using Netshare.
Im hoping to stay under the 5gb "unlimited" cap.

Mail

Could someone please tell me how to get mail set up to to work. Skype is simple. Just go to the Preferences>Advanced>and change the Port to 1080. As I was saying I seem to have quite a bit of trouble getting Apps Mail program to work.

Please help.

i tried numerous times, cant get it to work, in the tutorial when they go int othe netshare app it shows edge or 3g up top in the corner mine shows the wifi bars. any ideas?

Hey there,
i had the same problem the "wifi" will never show that its "connected" to my Airport. Since without the "wifi sign" i thought it never works. However, i am posting this through my iphone. give that a try, just let it run and see if that works.

p.s. tips... i turned down my backlight when i use it. maybe it would conserve more battery? anyone has any thoughts?

cheers,
Howard

Sounds like your in the same situation as I am, you can connect your phone and mac together on the wifi. No doubt like me you can telnet to the proxy from your mac.
It appears that my iPhone when connected to a wifi will not connect to the net over 3g. If I connect as per the instructions and then before running netshare try and connect using safari on my iPhone to surf the web, i get connection errors.
So far I have yet to find a solution to this :( I am wondering if my phone supplier Optus have made settings or configured something to stop this from being possible. As they appeared to have stopped the ability to download from the App Store for anything over 10mg in size too forcing the use of a WIFI network or your computer to do so :(

Anyone know a free alternative to proxifier?

http://soft.softoogle.com/ap/sockscap-download-5157.shtml

SocksCap is quite an old program, but it's free and it still works well. I haven't tested it with NetShare, but I don't see why it wouldn't work just the same. Understand that it's not going to be as easy as Proxifier.

UPDATE: Just tested out the download link and it doesn't work. The company that provided it no longer does, but you can download it here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/tszny9

Skype ok but yahoo and msn?

hi guys. For skype is enought to set the port 1080 but in messenger and yahoo ask in the proxy socks also the name of the server what i need to put? Many thanks

Okay, ill quickly write up a little help. I currently run this at about 160 kb/s speed (1 Mbit), that only cus they are at reduced speed in my area while they are upgrading, within a month ill be able to get max 7.2 Mbit :)

Adium, just go into preferences and on the accounts tab just edit each accounts proxy settings, the best for me was using the "systemwide Sock5" or whatever it sais :p

If you on your iPhone has no IP adress or see the wifi logo. Try this, before you open netshare, just try to go to www.google.com or whatever from your iPhone, it should then see it cannot surf with the wifi and switch to 3G or EDGE whichever is availiable. You should also be assigned an IP. My tips :) Ill post more when I get home

Having just moved house and being without internet access for a few days, NetShare is truly amazing! I have my 3g iPhone hooked up to my iMac and it works perfectly. Can't wait to try it out and about!

I just hope o2 don't send me some massive bill.

Haven't gotten it to work
XP sp 3

one interesting note. I try pinging the phone set 192.168.10.1 and the first ping dies, the other 3 make it.

Not too shabby. I'm so glad I got this app while I could. I only missed it by a few minutes the first time so I pounced on it while I could. I still wonder what in the world is going on with this app. So weird.
