will someone please help me, i have been trying to do this forever. i cannot get it to work, i followed these directions, watched a video tutorial.. still cant get it idk what im doing wrong.

Ok guys,

I also tried to make this work forever with no success (3G with MacBook Pro running 10.4.11). Since it also did not work with two other Macs I figured it had to be something about my iPhone.
I first deleted all applications other than Netshare from the phone restarted... still no change. I noticed however that my iPhone responded in strange and unpredictable ways to switching Wifi to the iPhone tether network often by completely turning off Wifi. I finally decided to restore the iPhone and voila a short two hours later I had rebuilt the iPhone and the tethering worked right away. So far I have left every application off the phone and will now put them back one by one. Message: if everything else fails you may want to consider restoring the iPhone.

so you had the same problem as me? where it would go from edge or 3g to wifi and swith by itself and you did a restore, and it works now?
lmk thanks
tom

No luck using an XP laptop. Everything seems to be in place correctly. I tried using Proxifier and then Winsocks when that didn't work. I can get ping responses from the phone but I can't get any connections through the phone. I can't ping anything on the Internet. I can see slight "out" activity displayed when I attempt to open a page but there is never any response in the "in" nor any indicated connections.

I tried it on a second laptop and didn't get anything that way either.

I also tried FoxyProxy with no luck.

Edited to add: Figured it out. One of the recent instruction sets posted cleared it up. I have to use Safari on the phone first to establish to the phone that it needs to use EDGE. After that it was fine. I also discovered that the connection wouldn't work with Internet Explorer. I had to use Safari or Firefox. I was able to use a remote desktop connection to my work.

Yup,

sounds like what I had. Restoring did the trick.

Vista & Firefox with no Proxifier

I'm on Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit and am not using Proxifier. I can use Trillian and chat with friends once I set the proxy setting in it. With Firefox I found that you need to do more than just set the proxy server setting -

- Set SOCKS 5 proxy server setting
- Enter about:config in the URL address bar
- Filter or scroll down to "network.proxy.socks_remote_dns" and set it to 'True'
- Restart Firefox

I can get to some websites but others it prompts me to download an 'application/octet-stream' file. I've emailed NullRiver to see if they can provide any support. No luck with IE7 and it's most probably because it cannot resolve DNS for URLs.

Firefox and Thunderbird

for the lucky ones who got the app and who are still trying to make it work with the mozillas ... this is what got Firefox and Thunderbird running over NetShare for me:

FF:
after configuring the socks5 proxy under firefox the usual way (preferences->advanced->network ...) type about:config into the addressbar (and for FF3 promise that you are careful ;) )
type socks in the filter bar and set the setting named network.proxy.socks_remote_dns to true

Thunderbird: the same way i had to push thunderbird a bit. only the advanced config is different to reach: Preferences->Advanced->General->Config Editor in this window proceed like in FF -> type socks into the filter bar and set network.proxy.socks_remote_dns to true ...

i'm not sure if this works for you, but as it did the trick for me i though i'd share.

cheers

btw, i have the old iphone so my EDGE speed looks like this:

Get Netshare back! BOYCOTT iTunes Store

In an effort to teach Apple Computer Inc. a marketshare lesson, I encourage all potential iTunes store customers to BOYCOTT the store until Apple Computer Inc. and AT&T Inc. allow for the distibution and purchase of Nullriver's NetShare application.

Said application would allow iPhone users to access the internet with their notebook and laptop computers.

Nullriver claims that Apple has said that this app is not legal to sell in the US.

This is non-sensical since I, an AT&T and Apple Computer customer have been unsing my AT&T Tilt phone's Internet Share application for over a year! Not once has AT&T said that I could not use this application or that I am violating any agreement. I can also say that all of the employees for the company I work for have been doing the same!

Let NetShare be available! Until then, BOYCOTT the iTunes store altogether and I am certain that Apple Computer Inc. and AT&T Inc. will see the light...

Route all traffic through NetShare and Socks?

NetShare is a great app and it is great for getting web access on the go. But I would really like to be able to use entourage, ftp, and other clients. Is there any way to route all traffic through the socks proxy that NetShare uses? I downloaded an app called proxifier, but it doesn't seem to do anything for entourage or for transmit. If anyone has any ideas on how to get entourage (ie: exchange, IMAP, SMTP) support while using NetShare I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Mail??

As others have noted, it works fine with Safari, but can't get regular pop mail using Mac Mail program. Perhaps I missed it, but is there a way to do this?

Getting NetShare to work with 10.4.11

FYI -- I was really confused as to why NetShare worked with 10.5 and not 10.4. The proxy settings were the EXACT same; but I couldn't get Tiger to connect!

It was all due to requiring a password on the adhoc network! Don't ask me why, but as soon as I remade the network with no password required, 10.4 started working instantly...

Hope this saves someone from the frustration I went through.

lol, 5 minutes I got it to work with MobileTerminal on my jailbroken phone. I don't even have to keep any particular apps open because it runs in the background. My speedtest via 3G is better than my DSl speed :D

I don't think that's really something to brag about...

Firefox (FIX)

if you could put some sorta "update" to your post about how windows and firefox users can connect to Netshare, that would be nice. because in all the tutorials, you all forgot one step:

in firefox addressbar type:

about:config

then search for the a string using keyword:

remote

you should see this entry:

network.proxy.socks_remote_dns (on false)

double click that string to make its value "true"

then Netshare should work with firefox.

note: sometimes on Edge the browser is funky and doesnt go so i usually press refresh 3+ times and then it goes~

update: UltimateFighter's method is so much easier tho, dont have to worry about all the proxy stuff. props @ UltimateFighter! <3 link

I'd appreciate a 10.4 walkthrough in a separate thread. Can anyone provide this? The video on this thread is great, but just different enough to not follow it.

i got it to the point where i set it up on my computer fine, then when i go to the phone, i put in the ip and it will show the edge symbol which is the right thing but the ip wont show in net share. any opinions.

I think ok getting closer it goes to edge but in netshare the ip won't show up. And ideas?
Thanks
Espo

When you on Wifi with your iPhone and start Netshare do you then get an IP address? If you do then you should also get an IP address in Edge when you configered everything correctly, I think.

lmao, I know, sad isn't it? I want cable pretty bad, but can't afford to pony up the extra cash. DSL is basically free after the discounts on my other services from the phone company

Yahoo Messenger and MNS

Hi guys,
finally it work in a fantastic manner. Just a stupid question when i want to set MSN and Yahoo messenger i set in proxy socks 5 but he ask me the name of the server? What i need to put?
Thanks

I have tried for many hours to get this working without luck.

I have followed many instructions and can not get FF3 (with the dns setting false and true) and safari to work with the proxy. I can telnet to the proxy from terminal to the proxy and get a connection. Which netshare shows, but neither browser will connect.

Does anyone have any suggestions at all?

Anyone got this working with an Asus EEE linux laptop?

I got it so it will connect and the devices see each other. I just can't get firefox to do anything when I set up the socks proxy.

i got it to the point where when its connected to the wifi connection on my laptop it says edge, which is good but when i go to netshare, no i.p shows in there.
