New store in Sydney?

From ifoAppleStore:
Australia Store Confirmed, Located
An Apple spokesman has confirmed that the company has submitted architectural plans to the city of Sydney (Australia) for a retail store. It would be the first store in the Asian Pacific region outside Japan. Spokesman John Marx would not disclose the location of the store, saying only that Apple is working to have the store’s architectural plans approved. Tipsters have identified 367 George Street in the central business district as the location of the store. The building was formerly occupied by the Westpac banking company, and is now scheduled for an $11 million renovation that will make space for an Apple store on the ground floor. The building is about one miles from the famous Sydney Opera House, and has an all-glass façade that is reminescent of Apple’s Fifth Avenue cube, or the future Bolyston Street store in Boston.

ifo supplies no link, but the site has a good reputation on this subject, so this could well be big news for mac fans is Australia. Needless to say this would be the first such store in the country. Good luck.

Thanks, that would be great! The one apple store in KC always seems busy, it just suprises me that they won't open more around here.
You're welcome. It wouldn't surprise me to see a second store in the Kansas City metro area, as there are smaller markets with more than one store, but I haven't seen any rumors of it yet. As I said, I'll keep an eye out.

Sydney, part two

More on the proposed Sydney location from the Sydney Morning Herald:
Apple shop for downtown Sydney
February 8, 2007
Apple is finalising plans to build its first official retail stores in Australia, with at least one set for Sydney.

Recent media reports have suggested the iPod maker is also planning to open a shopfront in Melbourne, but the company would not confirm or deny this.

"We have submitted concepts for the store we'd like to build in Sydney and are working with the city to gain their approval," Apple spokesman John Marx said.

"Our stores are a huge hit in the US, Canada, UK and Japan, and we look forward to bringing the unique Apple retail experience to customers in Australia."...
It is looking good!

No retail stores in France?
Last I heard, there was the possibility of a store this year in Paris on Beaumarchais Blvd. The Champs Elysées has been rumored to be a target for Apple to open a store, but the right location hasn't opened up as of yet. Rest assured, Paris will get a store soon.

Sydney, part three

ifoAppleStore has posted the finalized approved plans for the upcoming store in Sydney, Australia. It appears we have a mysterious secret "Agent 096" over in ifo's forums for breaking this story. Well done!

Sydney Store Revealed - Exclusive
After four months of work, Apple has received final approval on designs for a retail store located at 367 George Street in downtown Sydney (Australia). The architect’s drawings and photo rendering show a three-level glass façade that closely resembles the proposal for the future Boston (Mass.) store. The storefront includes a white Apple logo delicately suspended in the middle of the glass panels. The store will offer two levels of products, with the Genius Bar on the third level. View exclusive drawings and a photo rendering here.
anyone know whats going on with the Boston store?

Last I had heard was that there had been approval of Apple's plans by all the various City Zoning boards, but construction had not begun. Anyone near the location who can go by and give us a report? Still no posting of job positions for the store.

is there a place (forum) where you can talk to apple fans in your own area?

For instance, i live close to the Norfolk, VA store and just wondering where i could find others that are close by.

most big areas have user's groups and the store should be able to put you in touch with some people if they are doing their job.

Second Australian store?

Hot on the heels of the Sydney story, ifoAppleStore has news of another store possibly opening in the Australian city of Melbourne. This one hasn't been approved yet.

Apple Store - Melbourne Renderings
In late 2006 the Australian architecure firm Bruce Henderson Architects posted renderings of a new mixed-use development proposed for the northwest corner of Chapel Street and Toorak Road in Stonnington, a near-suburb of Melbourne (Australia). Among the retail stores on the ground floor is an Apple store....

Apple Store opening in Bentall Centre, Kinsgton - 17th February

How on earth did I not hear about this until now? That's less than mile from my home.

Extremely happy :)

Blah, I wish they'd hurry-up and open some continental European stores. Here in Brussels we have some crappy re-sellers we have to deal with rather than the real deal. I was so impressed with the 5th Avenue store when I visited NYC I want that here! :(

I was about to write the exact same post! I'm a stone's throw away in Epsom and I've only just heard about this. I've had to promise the husband a Nano in exchange for him giving up his Saturday morning?! I want me one of those T shirts.... :D

I hope you enjoy the photographs.

Thanks for those Dave, they're great. I was there this morning - my first ever Apple Store opening! I wasn't disappointed, what with all the cheering and clapping but it was blummin' hard not to walk out with a new, un-needed Mac just for the hell of it. They sure know how to whip up a crowd! :D

My PC lovin' brother has just bought himself an iMac though after being dragged along this morning against his will so their efforts weren't in vain!
