Apple to open two new UK stores

Apple has begun recruiting staff for two new stores in England. One is in Churchhill Square (most likely in the mall of the same name,) Brighton and the second is in Solihull, a suburb of Birmingham. Apple has already started recruiting of staff for two other UK locations, so this would bring us a total of at least four new UK stores this year.

Okc

Hey- Does anyone know when tulsa will be getting a store? Since Tulsa is the premier city in oklahoma.- just kidding...i just here so much of that from tulsans. I hate all artists from chelsea/manhattan(none in soho-lol) because you have the opportunity to see more culture than any city or place in the world. Im -getting my MFA at OU and take every chance to visit The City of The World. I love to here about all of the mac stores in NY- being an artist-a mac is obviously the only way to go. Until then i will have to enjoy the store at my upscale mall Penn Square.

San Francisco Marina Dist. store confirmed

From today's San Francisco Examiner:
Apple wants store, 'genius bar' in Marina
Mar 22, 2007 3:00 AM (5 hrs ago)
by Alexandria Rocha, The Examiner

SAN FRANCISCO (Map) - An Apple retail store — complete with a sleek glass façade and an in-house “genius bar” — may soon border the renovated Marina Theater on Chestnut Street.

Apple Inc. is hoping to open its third San Francisco retail store in the former Walgreens on Chestnut Street near Steiner. Apple opened stores on Stockton Street and in the Stonestown Galleria on 19th Avenue in 2004.

The San Francisco Planning Commission will hold a hearing on Apple’s proposal today.

A spokeswoman for Apple said the company is “excited to bring the unique Apple retail store experience to the Marina district.”

If approved, the new Apple Store would coincide with a much larger revitalization project on the 2100 block of Chestnut Street: Walgreens is moving one building over to occupy the first floor of Cinema 21, which closed in 2001 but is reopening on its second floor under the original name, Marina Theater, this fall.

“Chestnut has been undergoing a renaissance,” said Jordanna Thigpen, commissioner with The City’s Small Business Commission and owner of Mask Italia on Chestnut Street. “Apple is going to put Chestnut on the map.”...

This has been rumored before but this is the first public confirmation of the store. It still has hurdles to clear before it is certain.

Checked Woodland hills mall site this morning and still no movement on the site of :apple: store there

Apple is still recruiting on their website for the store and I see ifoAppleStore has posted a picture of the construction barricade in the mall, complete with Apple's name. It's on its way. ;)

btw, AP is now running this article as well.
Apple computer store likely headed to Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. Apple Computers won't confirm it but evidence is mounting that the company will open a store soon in Woodland Hills Mall in Tulsa.

Apple obtained a permit from the city of Tulsa earlier this month for a 1 (m) million dollar renovation project at the mall.
Also, temporary wood paneling bearing the word "Apple" is visible over a space on the first floor of the mall, and the company Web site has job listings for workers at the future store....

San Luis Obispo store to open June 9th

The Tribune of San Luis Obispo is reporting that the new Apple store in that city will open on June 9th.

Biz Buzz: SLO's Apple Computer Store to open in June
The Tribune
An opening date has been set for an Apple Computer Store in downtown San Luis Obispo. Customers will be able to shop starting June 9, according to a sign in front of the retail space at 899 Higuera St.

A spokesman for Copeland Properties, which owns the building, could not be reached for comment Wednesday, but city officials confirmed that tenant improvements are under way.

"As far as my department goes, the building permits have all been issued at this time,’’ said John Mandeville, community development director for the city.

"All the Copelands have to do is build out according to the approved plans and building codes. When that’s done, we’ll do an inspection and give them a certificate of occupancy.’’...

Sweeeeeeet, my home town at long last. :D

Churchill Square is right in the middle of Brighton where everybody shops, so there should be loads of public exposure and a lot of walk in trade. And Brighton certainly isn't short of residents willing to spend a few pounds, either.

It should interesting to see how the local Apple Premium Reseller (CanCom) get on with this, because they have a decent reputation.

Greenville before Charleston? You've got to be kidding me.

Haywood Mall, while pretty large, has never been what I would consider an upscale mall.

Ugh. If Greenville gets a store before Charleston, I'll be annoyed. Greenville already has a CompUSA and an Apple reseller. Nowhere else in SC has anyplace to purchase Apple products.

I second that! Haywood is an OK mall, but sorry, its not quite up to the standards to be the first place to get an Apple Store in SC. Maybe later on, but the first store in the state HAS TO BE on (or around) King Street in Charleston. Its just the right thing to do. That place just craves an Apple Store & so do the people.

What the hell is taking Apple so long with this?? Do it!

I'm going to N.Y. this summer and can't wait to go to one of those stores! I live in Miami so there are 2 i have not been to and one inside a mall so its nearly as impressive as the the others and they are building a new one in Ft. Lauderdale which is 30 min from Miami. But i visit there a lot since I have relatives there.

As anybody who lives in Cardiff (and isn't blind) will know, there's an absolutely massive retail development taking place in The Hayes opening in 2009 (by Spillers and our current Apple Reseller). I know AT is a Premium Reseller, and from all I can tell do an excellent job of it, but I would not be surprised to see a proper Apple Store going up there.

And believe me, if there is, I'll be first in line for a job at the Genius Bar.

I wish Bend, Oregon would get a store, I have to drive 2 1/2 hrs. to the nearest one. I would be happy w/ one of those mini stores that some Best Buys have.:apple:

I know we are still too small though.

I was in the natick mall (MA) this weekend and they are doing a huge expansion, i would love to see one added their. any info of one coming?

Apple store Baybrook Mall Webster, Tx....

Will Be opening April 12th...

I've checked for an announcement and I can't find one. Could you post it if you have it?

i wish there was one in the Mall of Georgia

Yes, to both. Apple has been recruiting staff for both stores for a couple of weeks now.

Toronto vs. Vancouver

Vancouver!!!
come on guys... 3 stores in toronto before Vancouver??!! wtf??

From 2001 census information:

Population, metropolitan areas:

Toronto: 5,113,149
Vancouver: 2,116,581

Population, municipalities:

Toronto: 2,481,494
Vancouver: 545,671

And that doesn't include the additional 700,000 in Hamilton, 330,000 in Oshawa or 180,000 in Barrie (slightly more than the 160,000 in Abbotsford, the next largest metropolitan area in the Vancouver region). Three stores in Toronto before the first in Vancouver seems about right.

Here is the updated list of upcoming FY2007 stores. Apple has announce it will open approximately 40 stores during the FY 2007, with seven stores to open in this quarter. The following list shows stores already opened in red,) and upcoming stores confirmed by Apple's own listings (including stores with officially announced opening dates in gold, stores in the process of staff recruitment in green, and new locations which have only been listed as upcoming retail sites in black.)

...34. West Towne Mall - Madison, Wisconsin...

Any way to tell when the ones in "Sea Green" might actually open up...particularly #34 (as you may have guessed)? This article from the Isthmus (a Madison weekly) says that "Apple is notorious for playing its cards close to its chest when it comes to its new retail locations, generally announcing their existence and timeline for launching mere days (or weeks) before their doors open. The company has not announced a Madison location yet, in fact, and it's certainly months before the store is scheduled to open." We're now almost two months away from when that article was published, so hopefully official word is on the horizon. There still advertising for Managers, etc. so maybe it's still a ways a way.

Well, let me know if you got any info.

thanks,
jdo

No real information, I can only say what is usual for such stores. This is a store inside a mall and these usually take six to nine months from posting (March 1st in this case) to opening. That would make a September to December opening most likely. Stores have opened as quickly as three months after the posting of jobs, but that is very unusual. I hope that is of some help.

Well, hopefully it'll be the latter (i.e. 3 mos.) rather than the former (i.e. 6 to 9 :( ). The March 1st date is not necessarily the original posting date, only the first reported posting date, afaik. Just trying be optimistic. :)

Anyway, we'll have a store here at some point and that's a good thing! Thanks for the (not real) info!

New Manhattan store

In today's financial call VP Peter Oppenheimer announced that Apple will open a new store in NYC's meat packing district located at 14th Street and 9th Avenue. ifoAppleStore puts this in the Western Beef Building at 401 West 14th Street. This is to be Apple's 3rd store in Manhattan and 4th in NYC. There have been two false starts at 34th street and in the Flatiron District, but this store having been announced by Apple would seem to be on more solid ground.
