Right. Are we missing something? Are there people who have been complaining that they can't find the night mode option so they need that application button quadrupled in size? And who at Apple decided that moving arguably the most used functionality to a second tab to increase the night view app size was a good idea?

I've never been so annoyed by a design change in my life. Talk about a step backwards in terms of simplicity. Exactly the reason Steve Jobs would've shut this change down.

When audio is playing it defaults to music controls.

Isn't that a volume slider on the bottom beneath the play/pause controls?
Brightness i think because when i tried with volume button it didn't change.

A few things to consider:

- The beta program is for developers to test their apps on. It is a user preview although most of us download it and pla around with it anyway.
- This is a work in progress. Many elements can change by September.

Must change. There are pretty horrible UI decisions in there.

First off, no one knows what Steve would have done, so I absolutely HATE it when people already bring Steve up. "Steve wouldn't have allowed this." blah blah. No one knows what he would have done, plain and simple as that.

Second, as mentioned above, this is the first beta, things are likely to change. I remember running iOS 7 betas and things changed every single beta. Icons changed, settings changed and so on. This is not final. If you are truly upset by it, send Apple feedback. Apple isn't reading this forum, complaining here about a change will accomplish nothing.

I 100% agree with you. I didn't understand that either. It actually reminded me of this a bit:
bgvideo-ss.png

However, instead of being to the left, it's instead to the right.

I think they are floundering a bit design wise. I remember at the release of iOS 7, Ive stated that iOS was now layered, and I feel like they haven't really revisited that since iOS 7, which made me sad because I thought it was a pretty good idea, and they haven't ever really talked about it more.

As much as I don't like the design of it, Google's Material Design is really quite clear cut as to what it expects in designs. I mean, check out the design page: https://material.google.com

I wish Apple was able to focus on UI that is pleasing to the eye, and easy to use. A lot of what they showed off Monday definitely helped cut back on the steps required to do something on the device, however, there are some areas where they took a step backwards, which is disheartening.

That's almost even more ridiculous. So now if I'm listening to audio, which is most of my day, I can't pull up and quickly adjust brightness settings like I do often? Or access DND function.

Bottom line, it's the opposite of what Apple is known for. It's no longer simple. It's added steps and wasted space.

I'll shut up now and be patient hoping they change it back but if not, this is for sure my last iPhone! People say that all the time but this change is too illogical for me to support. :).

I guess the white space is there to be filled by covers when something is playing. There's also white space now, they just expanded it.

And new one is missing volume settings.

The first is wrong and the second is some chicken little stuff. You absolutely can change volume and "quickly adjusting brightness" involves exactly one swipe.

Won't say I'm a huge fan of the design but neither am I under the impression the sky is falling. That's not even to mention that it's a first developer preview and the design may or may not change.

Maybe there will be a second button on that row in the future for a dark mode perhaps *crosses fingers*

I'm absolutely with the thread opener. The new control center sucks.
I wan't be able to quickly change the volume control or start/stop my music. The new control center is a step back, because I need now an additional swipe.

It's the same with slide to unlock, a big step back for people who don't use TouchID.

I don't understand why there's not an option for
"Slide to unlock"
and "compact control center".
Users should always have to choose of their favorite workflow.

I'm in agreement. Adding another swipe option to the UI just to access music controls is bad decision.

Please excuse this terrible mockup (I am supposed to be working :p ) but this is how I think CC sould look like, no stupid pages and big buttons.

I really like the big separate panes, they just need swipeable quick dots like the Dock on the Apple Watch. Issues with empty space will be address as the beta progresses as with every release. Be patient. :D

The Clinton Archipelago unfortunately
I have been busy the last couple of days and I was disappointed that I couldn't skip songs on the control center anymore. Until I saw this post, and the rest of the control panel is on the next screen.

I am sure I would have figured it out eventually lol.

Here's my terrible mockup of how I believe it should be

Seriously. There ya go. That's all you need to do. We don't need an overly sized night mode button to take up most of the control center lol.

I feel pretty confident they'll switch it back. If not, Tim Cook might as well sign the pink slip. Guy has no clue what to do

How are you using iOS10?

Currently, the control center has five applications across the bottom

Flashlight, timer, night mode, calculator, and camera.

Then you have your airdrop icon and the best part, access to the music player.

On the new ios10, it looks as if they've reduced it down to four applications on the bottom and made the night view application button the size of Jupiter, and thus, not having space for the music player.

Now the music player has its own new "tab" if you will that is 85% empty and bland.

My frustration and shock is... Instead of being able to quickly swipe up and pause our music, we now need to swipe up, then swipe right, then pause. For what reason though? To make the night view application button extremely massive? To reduce the # of apps accessible on the first tab of the control center?

I can honestly say that this is by far the most mind blowing change to apples functionality that I've seen since the beginning. Not only did they manage to add an extra step to something that needs quick access (pausing music for example), but they've literally added nothing to replace it, and instead, have a completely new tab for the control center that is 85% empty with nothing other than "pause, play, next etc"

Forgive my emotional rampage here but I truly cannot understand how this was approved. I can bet Steve Jobs would've laughed at whoever suggested this horrific change.

Thoughts? Can anyone logically explain what the purpose of making it more difficult to control music while adding nothing else that benefits anyone except possible the elderly who can't seem to find the night mode button?

I have a pretty good solution for you. Swipe up and switch to the Music tab, swipe down and then swipe up, oh look, it's in the same place. Problem solved.

You'll get used to it and you'll be saying how rubbish the old one was.

So, if I need to access something on the first pane, I have to swip again? Everything should show on one page, plain and simple.
