I switched to mac back when Leopard was released. Everyone flipped their **** over the 3D dock screaming like it was the end of the world. I personally never liked the 3D dock and i think this dock looks beautiful. Obviously opinions will vary but honestly with the improvements to spotlight you shouldn't even be using the dock anyway.

I was repulsed with the entire UI at first, but when I started to compare it to Mavericks it does seem to look cleaner and fresher. I guess it's sort of how iOS 6 looked dated after seeing iOS 7.

TOP TIP for dock.

change default bakcground so it won't be grey on the bottom or reposition the dock to the left of the screen. With stock OS X 10.10 wallpaper it looks like the dock has solid grey background which is not the case.

The current dock on Mavericks is fine. The new transparent dock is a step backwards and reminds me of the early Aqua days.

I completely agree with you 100%.... Up until my download finished and installed Yosemite. It actually looks quite nice with the new colors and the subtle design. That was really my only gripe about this change from Mavericks was the dock change back to the old style, but now that its downloaded and on my Retina Screen, its really makes the dock look much nicer. Take it or leave it, its worth the change.

I'm curious as to see how it works with magnification as you move your cursor over the dock icons. If Yosemite will still carry that feature that is...

i imagine it will work the same as maverick's dock if you put it on a side of the screen.. the new bottom one looks like it's the same as the old side docks.

idk, i've always had my dock on the right side so the 'new' dock should seem completely familiar in my situation.

I disagree.

I like the New Dock. Whenever I wanted to switch to the 2d dock in the pre Yosemite days, I always wanted to switch to the white/transparent style 2d dock Mac OS had before.

It kind of has a retro feel to it.

I hate the 3D dock for 1 reason: If a window is behind the row of apps that stick out over the dock itself, it can be a pain to click that area of the window. This is because the actual boundary of the dock is an invisible layer on top of the actual app icons. If you click anywhere within this layer, you open an app. If you're in the middle of a busy workflow, you find yourself making this mistake more than often.

I know you can hide the dock, or make it smaller, or even move it to the side, but I prefer my dock in view, at the bottom. I hated the dock ever since Leopard. Glad they put the Tiger dock back.

In fact, I haven't been this excited about a OSX release since 10.5. I'm happy Apple still cares about the Mac and is taking big steps with it.

This is what I want in Mac Osx. I’m currently using 3rd party software to make it work but native it would be great.

So, basically, you want your dock to look like a row or column of icons on the desktop....Kind of like that Microsoft OS....What's it called...I can't remember...

Why not just disable the dock and make aliases for all the programs you want, on the desktop?

I like pretty much everything about the UI except for the dock. I hope we can change it to a 3d translucent dock like this one.

I somehow knew that the next OS X was going to adopt the same flat looks like iOS 7 did. I dislike it tremendously.

That's how I have 'em, and that's how I'll keep 'em.

I was about to mention that. IMO just because the design philosophy is going for a more 'flat' look doesn't mean we shouldn't have the option to choose a 3D 'flat' dock to go with it.

The dock looks not bad at all, but I would like to see the dock with the same translucency as well in 3D. :D

I am so glad they changed the dock for Yosemite. It looks so much clearer and easier to see the apps and indicator lights. Also looks a tonne better. Cleaner, more refined.

Because I want to be able to have quick access to the software I use even when I’m running a maximized windowed mode, with desktop icons I can’t do that.

Edit: And it’s like you’d take the taskbar of windows and remove the colour so you can see the wallpaper behind it.

I said quick access, if it isn’t faster than the setup I have now then it can **** off. Hot corners, I don’t want to move to a corner, I want the to use the dock; gestures are annoying at times when you need them and the button to show the desktop needs to load up the menu bar with an animation which is annoying and slow to use and with that I need to wait for the fullscreen in and out transitions.
