And it’s like you’d take the taskbar of windows and remove the colour so you can see the wallpaper behind it.

That IS the taskbar...Ever since Vista, you've been able to make the taskbar completely transparent, but I digress...Even Windows 7 had the ability to 'snap' to the desktop, allowing you to see your much wanted rows or columns of icons, with the same move of a mouse, as you would if you were fullscreen in Safari, and wanted to access the dock.

What you want, is Mac OS X to be more like Windows, and it isn't going to happen.

I like my icons being a part of the desktop background, but still be on top of every other app since it allows for very quick switching compared to fullscreen mode.

Windowed maximized: Move cursor, click.
Fullscreen: Move cursor, wait for Osx to know that you want the dock, click.

For someone like me who uses a lot of apps at once in maximized windowed mode it’s important that I don’t have to wait for the dock when I want to switch apps.

Osx dock and Windows taskbar are the same thing except windows being more functional (aero things like the tiny preview windows of every window in that app, in Osx I have to right click and select the window I want to use if I have several windows, mission control just looks so bad and confusing whenever I use it)

The only thing I want Osx to be is to get better userfriendlyness with options for what a user might use. If there are stuff in windows that can make it even better, use those things.

The Dock isn't horrible. I grew accustomed to the "shelf" dock, but the new one is fine. If anything it's like a fun throw-back to 10.4!

What I can't forgive is the new Finder icon. I find it horribly ugly. I think I may revert it's icon back to the old one.

Actually the new dock in Yosemite is WAY better than the current 3D dock. Not a fan of a 3D dock.

Also... the overall look of Yosemite is great. Can't wait for the public release. ;)

The current dock on Mavericks is fine. The new transparent dock is a step backwards and reminds me of the early Aqua days.

A lot actually preferred flat dock, including me I adore new dock :) - was annoying you couldn't have flat dock on Mavericks.

I said quick access, if it isn’t faster than the setup I have now then it can **** off. Hot corners, I don’t want to move to a corner, I want the to use the dock; gestures are annoying at times when you need them and the button to show the desktop needs to load up the menu bar with an animation which is annoying and slow to use and with that I need to wait for the fullscreen in and out transitions.

i meant mouse button when i said button.. that or a gesture is the fastest way to access things on your desktop. (which is what i was originally talking about to you.. accessing your desktop and/or files & aliases that are on it.

not sure why you're against hot corners.. it's the same as waiting for a hidden dock to appear except you don't have to wait.. hit the corner and it's instant.

there are other ways to switch between full screen apps.. default is control +left or right arrow.

mission control is fast too to switch between full screen apps.. gesture or a (mouse) button or keystroke gets you there from a full screen app..

even launchpad can be faster than using the dock for app switching.

For someone like me who uses a lot of apps at once in maximized windowed mode it’s important that I don’t have to wait for the dock when I want to switch apps.

so you want the dock to float over a full screen app? the programs i use in full screen have controls in the same place as the dock would be.. not sure how this equals userfriendlyness.. sounds like a clusterduck to me.

for real, there are probably 10 different ways in osx to do what (i think) you want.. i mean, there are lots of options in there and osx is pretty configurable when it comes to this stuff..

but i think i get it:
(mission control just looks so bad and confusing whenever I use it)
spend 15 minutes learning about mission control.. spend the entire 15 minutes focusing on the different ways to use it etc.. i.e.- learn how to use it and it won't be confusing.. and seriously, it won't take longer than a few minutes to actually learn it.

Totally ! Except for that .. It's awesome!!!! I mean come on! The icons are good.. The old trash can was better, Craig said they used a lot if time designing it, we'll not worth ... Did any one notice if the magnifying feature is still there. ???? I didn't see it... The old dock is the heart of Mac.. It's one thing it was famous for!!! It's bad!!! Even though it's translucent and all! But bad...

that would suck if they took out magnification. I make my dock as small, as possible and use the magnifying glass when scrolling over apps. I don't get why people have these huge sized docks on macbook display's where screen real-estate is precious.

Does anyone know if there is a more updated method for moving the location of the dock (instead of it just being in the middle of the side you choose)?

It used to be with this terminal command:
defaults write com.apple.dock pinning -string end
killall Dock

But that method does not work anymore.
Anyone have any ideas? I liked having my dock on the left side of my screen, but on the bottom corner rather than the middle.

Installed Yosemite yesterday on my 13" MBPR, 4GB RAM. Working well actually.

But... yeah, not sure about the dock. I have no problem with flat design and the new fonts, etc, but the dock looks a bit weird. Seems a little... Linux-y? I guess it just needs finessing in design, but it does seem like an older sort of dock, not like the shelf we have in Mavericks. I'm hoping they bring the shelf back, really, at least as an option.

Also, the new Finder icon is bizarre. Very... PlaySkool, cartoony. I hope they modify it.

Just to add: as someone else pointed out, the default Yosemite wallpaper makes the dock look very flat and grey. Change the wallpaper to something colourful, and the dock looks a lot better. Actually, the whole OS does. Guess brightness and light suits the new UI?

You people are nuts! (the Dock)

Apple now has a 2D dock and your complaining? Weren't you just complaining about how Apple removed the 2D dock option from Mavericks? Seriously? I guess there is no pleasing certain people.

Do yourself a favor and make up your damn mind!

LMAO

I guess it's just a personal taste thing. I used to run with a 2D dock using a terminal command as I used to prefer it, and only really switched back to the default 3D dock with (I think) Snow Leopard. A switchable option would be nice.

When I ran Yosemite I thought it wasn't bad but, swapping back, I still think Mavericks looks so much smarter.

Main things are probably the dock (just ugly), the window buttons (look like they're from a crappy Windowblinds theme) and the way too blue folder icons (should have kept to the same shades as Mavericks). Safari icon sucks big time, just not quite as much as on iOS.

I don't like the look of Yosemite's dock either. But that's just my opinion and it's all about taste. Not upgrading would mean missing all those new features though. :(

I like the new design overall...

The new dock looks just fine, especially necause I have been keeping it on the left hand side for some years, now...It's very convenient, especially to save some horizontal resolution...

I just don't see why they can't give users the option. I like it how it is now. I don't like the flat design. Just give users the option. It can't be that hard.

Because Apple knows what's best and you just better tow the line....... (sorry, getting grumpy about the way Yosemite is being developed)
