The Dock is one of the only things I wholeheartedly like in Yosemite. Brings back so many fond memories from Tiger.

I use Dos regularly and I have to say, it’s a lot more capable than most people think.

I use DOS on a regular basis (nearly daily) and I think it's rather pathetic. It's probably more capable than I thought it was before I was forced to used it, but it still pales when compared to other CLI's of DOS's era IMHO.

Agreed. I don't mind the dock. I loved Tiger, and it feels comfortable and familiar.

After using Yosemite for about 9 days I am starting to forget what the old icons looked like so obviously not a big deal for me.

Since they are moving towards making OS X and iOS look alike where they can I would just prefer they go ahead and use the same icons when they have the same app of both platforms.

Looks like the new iTunes will be the same. So why not Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Safari, etc......

As many people have said this is just like when the 3d dock was first introduced. People hated it or loved it. I loved it and still like it better than the new dock but ill get used to it. I don't think how a dock looks makes or breaks an OS. I would like the choice but if I don't get it then whatever. This is just the DP so who knows what will happen in the 3-4 months.
This is also the reason I think the public beta is a terrible idea. People are going to think they signed up for early access to the finished product and then be upset that it isn't polished. The public doesn't understand what a beta is.If I were a PR person i would have heard about a public beta and resigned....oh wait hah j/k

I prefer the 3D dock... I hope someone will come up with a hack/app of some sort to get it back, sort of like "Classic Dock" for iOS 7. I don't like the colored battery icon either. Also, am I the only one that doesn't care for the new font? That probably just takes some getting used to, but it looks strange to me.

probably not but i personally like it better..

you're possibly more used to the font than you might recognize.. it's all over nyc and i imagine much of the rest of the world.

decently neat documentary about it:

That is pretty neat. I suppose if I do decide I really really don't like it, I can always change it with tinkertool or something.

Couldn't find the answer to this anywhere: does Yosemite finally fix the flawed dock animation?

I really don't care much for how it looks. The flat look is just wrong looking to me.

The dock reminds of have the graphic errors I sometimes had with my USB display adapter on my laptop.

I know I'm not going to sway Apple away from this flat look kick they seem to be on, but I'm looking forward to the next wave of UI redesign.

I like the concept of the new dock's design, but I take slight issue with whatever algorithm they use to create the "translucency" effect. It's not like Tiger and earlier releases where it's simply a white overlay that allows some of the wallpaper to be visible — I think it actually analyzes portions of the wallpaper and takes an average of the colors, then boosts the lightness and saturation.

It looks great for wallpapers that are photographs or have some sort of pattern, but for solid colors, it looks really gross IMO. Try using the Tiger wallpaper on it if you want to see what I mean.

It's not that complicated. The translucency effect utilises a Gaussian blur filter with a very large radius (this creates the "average" of colours) and then applies a semi-transparent white layer on top of it with 'Overlay' blending mode (using Photoshop terms).

But nonetheless it is very different from Tiger.

Okay, having shifted my Mavericks dock to the right recently on my primary computer, I have to say the flat Yosemite dock on my test machine is actually looking better to my eyes.

But... the black "active" indicator dots are terrible. The glowing blue bars in Mavericks (when you switch the dock to the left or right) are a million times better - just do a side-by-side comparison.

If they can put those indicators back in, or give us new indicators that are just as clear, then I can live with the new dock.

Does anyone know if there is a more updated method for moving the location of the dock (instead of it just being in the middle of the side you choose)?

It used to be with this terminal command:
defaults write com.apple.dock pinning -string end
killall Dock

It seems like this doesn't work...hopefully it's just different language to bring it back (and not like the 2D Dock across the bottom setting that disappeared in Mavericks). I'll keep an eye out for news on this!

I hate Yosemite's new dock

I hate the new Dock. A little part of my heart truly hates it, the rest hates it even more.

The old one was so beautiful while the new is so "Ubuntu" like.

If someone share this feeling, please add a comment to this thread hoping that Apple, reading it, will bring the old Dock back.
