I promised myself I would not do it, but man that kool-aid is looking TASTY. :D

Oh, for the non US-ers, if you are not aware, superbowl commercials are typically a big-ish deal for a company, costing millions of dollars for a couple of seconds of airtime, so I would ot be surprised if Apple did introduce something that way. They do like to make a splash.

But if guy from Apple says it there must be something. Maybe something like new iPhone release and as side of that new iMac things

i might watch the Super Bowl now.

the only reason i wouldn't is because my beloved Patriots aren't in it. honestly, i gave up on the NFL right after my fantasy season ended and the Patriots season ended. :(

i've been trying to get a job so i can save up for either an iMac of a Macbook but i haven't heard anything so i doubt i'll be able to get one, i planned on having enough money by June but it won't happen.

When was the last Apple ad on the Super Bowl and what was it for? When was the last Mac ad on the Super Bowl and what was it for?.

January 22, 1984, and the Macintosh 128k, I believe. :D

Wrong, I'm afraid.

It was 1999, and the ad was for the Y2K issue. See it here.

But, as has been noted, it is the 25th anniversary of the "1984" ad, and ten years from the "Y2K" ad, so…

Unfortunately, I can't find that Apple has purchased any time, and if they had, that in & of itself would be on CNN"s front page.

Maybe a new AD during the Superbowl and the release of some new hardware next week.

Sounds like a slam dunk from a marketing perspective. hmmmm......

That's a great ad.

Is there a HAL 9000 speaking voice for OS X? :D Seriously.

lol imo it was silly, especially considering nothing happened to PC's when Y2K hit..

Hey, how do you know that that wasn't because of all the hard work put in to fixing everything in the first place? :p

And besides, because of the paranoia of Y2K, the infrastructure damage done on 9/11 was virtually negated because of off-site backups made to safeguard data (originally for the "big computer meltdown" but continuing thereafter because they had it there).

And also they sold a lot of "Y2K-compliant" flashlights and microwaves, so you can't complain.

lol first off, i had a pc, and my brother did aswell, nothing happened, and plus it was announced on the news that nothing happened :p, there were minor issues like dates messed up, but that didn't have a major effect..

I remember that commercial and sadly, the game. My Redskins got destroyed by the Raiders.

What would really be cool is if they had an ad in the Superbowl this weekend to announce new iMac (maybe Mini too) and mention the 25th anniversary. Maybe just show the same commercial again. I think it still works great, even though no one knows who George Orwell is nowadays.

I hope they dont come out soon, or ill punch myself in the face for buying a iMac recently :(

All my posts here are dominated by my self harm plans if Apple release the iMacs soon haha :D

Hopefully by soon you mean last week if Apple does upgrade the iMac on Sunday. Don't they have a grace period where you can exchange your computer for the upgraded model if they upgrade your model within 14 days of purchasing it

it's funny to watch this thread's progression from "they were out of imacs" to "apple is definitely launching the new Imac on Super Bowl Sunday". heh...

Apple had an ad for the MacBook Air during last year's Super Bowl. I'm going to miss the game this year. 2 for 1 lift tickets! I'm going snowboarding instead.

okay so i really dont think they'll release or announce imacs on a sunday but, i think they could have a mac commercial that kind of hints to it or something and release monday or tuesday.

i just was thinking, every product in the new line is contoured, 3g, macbook air, macbook, macbook pro. the imac though its the right color combo, they may be contouring the case more, maybe a full brushed backing (might interfere with reception of wifi) and then a flat glass piece across the front (very similar to the iphone shape)

it could happen... the imac is deffinately bigger than technology needs to be these days.

A little note from Sweden here.

Some guy emailed a Apple retailar and got a email response back today. He mailed about the 20' and 24 base models. This is the response he got.

APPLE IMAC 24# C2D 2.8 2GB/320 SD HD2600 PRO - This will hopefully be back in stock 2009-02-20.

APPLE IMAC 20# C2D 2.66 2GB/320 SD HD2600 PRO - There is now confirmed date on when we will get this model back in stock.

Also another guy phoned the official apple store and asked about the shipping times if he would buy a iMac. He got the reply that it would take 10-14 days to get it. But out of the blue the girl he was talking to on the phone says that if you buy this today, today only you will get a discount of 40 dollars (ord 350 swedish kronor). That is a little bit strange i think, just out of the blue giving a today only discount. Must mean something :)

This is promising if true. Out of stock items are generally the first sign of an update.

However, all this talk of a Super Bowl commerical and a release next week are so clearly bunk. It may happen towards the end of next month but even still we are all still guessing.

Lets calm down and curb these rumors back. Before I go crazy.
