I wouldn't say it's too early for i7 core in the iMacs, if anything it's the perfect time for an update in the iMacs.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's announced in the next month let alone a week or two.

Isn't the issue with the i7 simply the heat? I don't think Apple would want to make the enclosure any larger for the sake of performance, unfortunately. A core i7 iMac would be awesome however. As long as it had decent graphics to go with it.

22" and 26" maybe....

I know for me the 24" just feels that little too big for upclose desktop and the 20" is that little bit too small .... 22" would be a sure fire sale for me.

22" panel, 6 - 8Gb ram, C2Q around 3Ghz, nvidia chipset and a good gfx card would have me placing order straight away

I really hope that the new imac will have a LED screen, when I was looking for a imac, I saw the 24 inch cinema display with LED screen. That thing just looks sick, I really hope that the new imac will have the same screen.

It's 95% chance that we'll see LEDs in iMacs.

Ok first of all dump the rumors about the i7 thing, TDP of that thing is way too high. You'd be looking at a energy efficient i5 core, which is more likely to be the update after the coming one. Second, it isn't even sure if there will be quad cores (neither the whole 2x dualcore shebang, B-S). Its probably gonna be a CTO option on the top of the line model, and even then you migth still be looking at a high end DUAL core (3,4 GHz or something).

About the grahics, I have no idea, but the iMac has always had a little advantage over the mobile line so I don't think they'll put in a 9600GT. More likely a 9800GT or GTX+ (the energy efficient one). And finally, as said already, 24" inch isn't going to be smaller or larger, until there is a 26" model with 2560x1600 res, Apple isn't going to change that.

However I am pretty shure about the graphics thing to be a nice update. If they'd chosen the 9800gs/gt they wouldn't have to make a new cooling system/ redesigned cooling block.

I'm quite sure that quad-core will be added to iMacs. Apple has ordered one of the Intel's new quad-cores designed for all-in-one computers. Sorry I can't find that article.

No higher than 3.2GHz processors, way too much heat.

Sure, but 2 time the amount of cores isn't too much heat... sorry you're gonna have to explain the 3.2 GHz claim

What about the rumours that Apple's buying the Q9550S, 2.83 Ghz Quad with 12 mb of L2 cache? My guess is that they're gonna slap that one in there. As for the screen sizes, I don't see why they would up the 24" to 26", the resolution will probably be same, so as Tallest Skill said, it would just mean bigger pixels. What about the rumours that said they were using a 28" screen? That would make more sense.

3.2GHz was just number no bigger explanations for that. Bigger clock speed = more power needed = more heat. More cores doesn't need much more power and doesn't produce much heat. That's why some parts in iMac and laptops are underclocked so they don't produce so much heat.

That's why Core i7s are impossible, needs too much power compared to laptop parts which uses 40-70W.

When liquid cooling comes to iMacs it's possible to see over 3GHz proseccors in every model

No 28", if bigger than 24" it'll 30" becouse there are no 28" panels with 2560x1600 which is needed in bigger than 24". Secondly, becouse of economy issues 28"/30" iMac would needless. Way too expensive.

Seriously, I don't mean to insult here, but saying a little higher clock gives a lot more heat than "a couple more cores" is just so much ******** it shouldn't fit in your head. Really. The high clocked iMac (3.06GHz) is already clocked down from what it could do if not clocked down so still no real reason.

He also mentioned to watch the super bowl commercials. ( Could this be a sign of new releases)"

For those unaware, of all American TV Ad's throughout the year,
the Ad's during the SuperBowl, themselves, become both a major attraction,
and then a big topic of discussion for days after.

This is the only time that people actually look forward to Ads.

Reason? The Advertisers try extra hard to come up with very attractive commercials - and, knowing that they'll have a very large audience, they pay a very large premium for a small slice of airtime.

Today is "SuperBowl Sunday"

Ok that's exactly the reason the more cores the lower the clock...

There were Pentium 4 running at 3.8ghz but they were single core. That's why when they switched to two cores the speeds were around 2ghz and not 4ghz.
Still the two core PC's were faster.

@some ppl here : What's with the RAM, many people believes that the iMac will come with 6-8gb RAM :S. We will be lucky if we have 4gb RAM at the base model.

Not little higher but think about 3.4Ghz dual core, how much heat that would produce? And there is only few laptop processor with clock speed over 3GHz. Multi-cores are future, high clock speeds are past.

Correct me again if I'm wrong :D

iMac will not come with 6 or 8 GBs or RAM, maybe 2Gb in every model and then upgrade it to 6 or 8 GBs. Though DDR3 (which we'll see in new models) costs 2-4 times more than DDR2 so 8GB will not be cheap

Yeah .. i didn't mean apple will offer a base 8gb ram model ... as long as they offer a machine thats UPGRADEABLE to 8gb .... everyone knows that apple charge stupid prices for upgrades ....

I just want more than 4gb ram support..... photoshop(or other similar heavy media app) + snow leopard + 8Gb ram should be pretty nice

And no ... i don't mean i expect snow leopard to ship with machine

Please Apple: update the iMac already for me

LCD screen and quad core would be really nice, but whatever the new one has I am all for it. I have been waiting to get my iMac since Aug 2008.. so I am totally over ready. :apple:

Waiting since October-ish, I'm stuck on an old G4 which barely (read: doesn't) run Leopard, I'm really ready for an update now =p
