Hmm... depending on the model of 9800m I think it can be. But for a laptop it is different, power consumption is much more of a priority.

I guess I will have to wait and see.

I will be deciding between top end current gen refurb iMac or upcoming top end. Will be a large price difference, for maybe a little consumption improvement.

EDIT: SLI mode would be awesome for the iMac though.

Macworld 2009 keynote is almost here anyone have anymore predictions or what think will happen first???

I'm just hoping even though knowing Apple my confidence is low in this, that they make the imac (at least the middle range 20 inch) worth the price in terms of video card, ram and storage space. But I'm not optimistic.

I know I'll get it either way but something besides a subpar video card bump would be awesome.

This just makes me happier tax season is coming. I have had the same damn PowerMac G4 for ever and I finally will have the money for a new Mac, not only that it will be a crispy and newly released iMac.

I don't know of anyone that manufactures a 28" LCD panel other than hanspree and viewsonic. Both of those units are "TN" panels and I highly doubt Apple would use a TN based LCD panel for their new flagship iMac.

The current 20" iMac is a TN panel but the 24" is an IPS panel. Am I mistaken here? Is there an IPS or PVA 28" panel out there? I know Dell and Samsung have 27" PVA panels. I could see Apple MAYBE using one of these panels but that would increase the cost to something that is very "un-iMac" like.

I currently own a Dell 2709W 27" LCD which has the same native resolution as most 24" panels and I find that it's a pleasure to use with my aging eyes. Some folks prefer a smaller dot pitch though. Personal preference I suppose.

The 28" rumour is baseless, we haven't heard any reports of 28" screen being produced by LG or anyone else who could do the iMac screens. Quad-core is possible, but what's the point in changing from nVidia 8800 to 9600. The amount of VRAM isn't going to increase, as the MBP tops out at 512MB, so unless they do the hybrid dual-graphics trick, I don't see the advantage. There will be a new Mac Mini, that is almost confirmed, but considering we're just hours from the Keynote, there haven't been any 'spy shots', like there were for the iPhone 3G and new MacBooks.

I am sure there are spy shots images out there. But I notice the rumor sites are decreasing down on what they put online. I am glad there is no spy shot images because it ruins the whole keynote. During the Macbook event there was a spy shot of the new Macbook Pro and when they released it it looked exactly the same. I rather have words in details than images because then I will be surprised when I see them later on instead of earlier.

Hey im back everyone officially 1 day away until the keynote. I cannot wait!!! get your debit/credit cards ready!!!

Think i will be getting me a new Mac Mini :) hope the rumors are true, surly they have got to be its been way too long since the last update

Does anyone know if there is going to be a live audio stream of the event??? I remember during the WWDC there was one on ustream.tv

Which was taken down because it violated several copyrights...
Really wow I never knew that. You think we will still get live audio somewhere tallest skill??? oh I know that is violating a lot of copyrights. Have you been looking around???

I'd think if it were 28" it wouldn't have IPS panel equiped and it would be an inferior AIO.

I am truly not known for doing that. :D

Forget I said anything. Even I don't believe they'll be out before March.

I know, we're used to your timeframes and your put downs. :p

I tried to follow that one when it existed, but it was SO overloaded... and then Apple made found them and made them shut it down. I haven't even bothered to look. I'll just read the text, hop the Apple site and peruse the new hardware, and then watch the video when Apple posts it.

But really, is "SEARCH" (said emphatically and exasperatedly) a put-down? My aim is to put down Apple optimism ONLY, not the people themselves.

If you'd read the first posts he made here last time we expected iMac updates, you wouldn't have been surprised.

Nice call on the 28" iMac's MetsFan, moron.

After a stream of postings diarrhea from the OP they seem to have gone rather quiet, and there I was hailing him as the new Apple Oracle;);)

Hey NyMetsFan08, don't take the disapointment of MW2009 too hard.
