Have had my 12.9" since 6/16 and never happened until today. Updated to 10.3.3 yesterday. Has happened 3 times today. Twice closing/reopening Smart Cover woke it but once had to do a hard reset. But I have Apple Care if they don't fix it with iOS 11.

Yup, happened with my 12.9 after the latest 10.3.3 update. Have others reported this to Apple?

Same here, happened 3 times so far with my 10.5 iPad. In addition to the wake up issue I got another problem since a few days: the touch functionality of the screen stops working. The only solution is a reboot... Anybody else out there with this problem?

Yes, I returned a 12.9 for loss off touch functionality before reading this thread. I've also seen it once on my Mom's 10.5

Have seen it half a dozen times on pro iOS 10 or early beta 11
Sleep or home won't wake it.
Closing the Smart Cover and opening it, and it wakes right up.

My 12.9" does this a lot. It seems to only happen when trying to wake in landscape mode. When I flip to portrait it boots right up. I've also noticed that touch functionality is finicky. Half the time I'm touching things in clash of clans I don't get a response. Might just take into store and have it looked at. Idk why everyone is worried about 14 day period issues.....just get it replaced. Free of charge.....

Happened a few times on my 10.5”, on 10.3.2 and now the 11 public beta.

Public beta been great so far, a few resprings, the odd stuck icon that needs a reboot to be rid of, but otherwise surprisingly reliable. Very glad I put it on, iPad really shines with it.

Sticking with 10.3.x on my phone though, can’t risk it, and the 11 update is hardly mind blowing for the phone anyway. Which I’m fine with, it’s the iPad that was in desperate need of a great os update.

My 10.5 started doing this after 10.3.3 update, with increasing intermittent occurrences. I opened a support ticket with Apple last night and had a typical wasted time chat with support.

Hey guys,

I've had my new 12.9 iPad Pro for just over 2 weeks and twice now it has failed to wake up when I flip open the Smart Cover. It just happened again a few minutes ago. The screen says dark and even the home or power button won't wake it up. I have to close the Smart Cover and open it again and then it wakes up like normal. It's s strange glitch.

Anyone else experiencing this? I hope it's not a hardware issue as I'm outside of my return window now.
[doublepost=1500865103][/doublepost]On a new 10.5 in IPad Pro I have same hesitation when flipping up the Apple cover. Holding the home button doesn't wake immediately. Pressing both the home and power-on together seems to work.

With enough of these issues posted, hopefully Apple will look into a fix.

I don't flip the cover closed that much but my 10.5 had a couple issues. First was when cmd-tabbing between apps it starting opening a different app than I selected. Then with Amazon open in Safari it started lagging hard when scrolling. I updated to 10.3.3 but that didn't fix the scrolling lag so I did a full reset and it's been fine since. I'm not too worried about it being a hardware issue. It seems like iOS 10 might be causing some bugs with the new hardware (or vice versa.)

My gen 1 12.9 has been flawless in the performance department.

Do what my wife does. Poke it and yell at it "you have to take out the trash!"

Wakes me up quick

I've found mine doesn't 'wake up' sometimes, but when I inspect the screen extremely carefully it seems that the screen just hasn't activated the back light. I then have to force it to lock with the sleep wake button then everything is fine. Happens maybe once every week or two.

I honestly haven't been able to identify if it's related to any particular apps that are open at the time of it sleeping before back light failure happens, or if it's hardware or just an iOS bug.

As for me it's past the 14 day return policy and i got it in Hong Kong - not sure about the international warranty when using it in Mainland China. I'm hoping it's just an iOS bug and it'll be fixed with an update, can't wait for iOS 11!

Here i'm from italy! Same problem with my 10.5 and happened two Times one with iOS 10.3.2 and one with 10.3.3.
I have a naked iPad with no Smart Cover.
I have AppleCare+ but if it's a bug and not an hardware problem i can wait iOS 11.

Use stock iOS wallpaper seem to fix the problem. I'm on iOS 10.3.3. Now
You mean the original wallpaper in the iPad?
I use some random wallpapers downloaded from an app

So After this message few days ago

"Going past the 14 day return? No...
And like I said, Mom has a new 10.5 with zero issues"

Your mom's 10.5 had this iussue too.

On iOS 8 I think it was? My Air would have this problem too. Sometimes it would wake up after a few seconds and other times I had to hard reset it. It was fixed in a later version and never had the problem again. While I don’t have this problem on my 10.5, I’m sure it’ll be fixed in a later version. Sucks for the guys one that wouldn’t wake up, but I’m guessing that was unrelated.

Called the Apple care. They said to me that they didn't know nothing about this issue.
If it will happen once a week i'll wait ios 11, after iOS update if continues this issue they send a new one in two day with the AppleCare+ Express Replacement Service.

I must admit, I got it twice after 10.3.3 was released so I tried turning on auto lock and used that for a few minutes then I turned the option off again and restarted the iPad. It has never happened since but this could just be a coincidence. I've probably gone and jinxed myself now!

I've had the iPad 10.5 with Smart Keyboard for 5 days now running 10.3.3. In the first day or so I experienced the device not waking up when the Smart Keyboard was peeled back, twice. Pressing the home button had no effect as well. A long press to the sleep / wake button did the trick.

Edit: Going on 3 weeks with this device. This phenomena occurred 3 times within the first week and hasn't occurred since.

So, it happened again to me just now. While it was "dead', I stepped into sunlight and I can see all the icons. I can even launch apps. So it is literally just the backlight not turning on. The iPad itself runs normally except the backlighting is off.

Usually happens once or twice a week

Wow this is weird
I'm starting to think that it could be a hardware issue
