I'm thinking this could be a RAM issue
After I began to re-power the iPP once a day, never had this problem repeat

I'm struggling to see the correlation between amount of available RAM and whether the back light comes on. I believe the screen and back light have their own controller so doubt current running applications would interfere with that process.

I didn't mean it is related to amount of available RAM, but how the OS utilizes the RAM. I had no more of this issue after installing iOS 11 Beta 3. I don't believe it is related to backlight at all.

I didn't think it was back light related at all thanks to the anti-reflective coating on the iPad Pros since it looked so dark. It wasn't until I shone an LED light up close that I could see the screen was active with the home screen visible. This means the device is actually awake, the issue is waiting for the backlight to kick in. Next time it happens, shine a bright light on the screen and look closely and I'm sure you will see what the rest of us are seeing.

Same here, happened 3 times so far with my 10.5 iPad. In addition to the wake up issue I got another problem since a few days: the touch functionality of the screen stops working. The only solution is a reboot... Anybody else out there with this problem?
I too have this problem but a reboot is never necessary. Usually sleeping and waking the ipad fixes it.

At this point, based on all of the replies, I'm leaning towards this being a software glitch of some sort. Too many different iPads to be a hardware issue I think. But a bug in the OS would be plausible. Its like the wake routine isn't sending the command to the backlights to turn on.

My iPad is doing this on occasion still and there doesn't seem to be any pattern. It just happens randomly.

Also randomly, the touch screen seems to stop responding. Last night I woke up the iPad and the touch would be on and off as I was using it. It would pause for a few seconds and then start responding again. Then after about 10 minutes, it was working perfectly fine. Anyone else experiencing glitchy touch response?

Oh, and I'm running 10.3.3

I've had my iPP 12.9 for a couple weeks now. On two occasions now the backlight refused to come on after sleeping. If I pressed the home button the Siri chime would come on -- but Siri wouldn't work. If I long pressed the power button nothing either. I had to do home + power to jump start it. I hope it's a s/w fix b/c damn hard to replicate as Apple will want.

It jus did this right now. I thought my battery had died but no. It failed to wake up but than it came back on. What should I do?

The new one did again few minutes ago
So guys it's a software thing.
2 iPads one from Apple Store one from apple care center and both with the same hardware issue at the same person? It's impossible.
This time to wake up i did not have a soft reset, I just pressed home bottom and the screen was on but the back light off. Put it again in stand by with the on off button and then wake up it with the on off button again.
In 5 seconds everything was fine...

Yup, this is pretty consistent with what I'm seeing on both my 2017 Pros.

In this thread there are 3 members with 2 iPads pro
Me (the old one and the one replaced), you and another guy and his mom.
6 iPads and all these devices have the same hardware problem?
It's almost impossible.

Hi people, I've had this happen to my iPad 4 a few times (roughly 3-4 times in the past few weeks).

Initially I thought the battery had run down, but when I plugged it in it would wake up and I'd have over 50%.

I just assumed it was the iPad 4 showing it's age, but it might be a iOS bug after all.

I'll try shinning a light on the screen if it happens again to see if the iPad is awake.

I'm also with the 10.5 and it's done it a total of around 5 times since June 13th. I have a smart cover

Btw I had the same problem occur on my iphone 7+

I just had this happen. Had to hold the home and power buttons to do a hard reset to get it to come back on.

10.5” iPad Pro running Public Beta 4.

Yes. I've been experiencing glitchy touch response on and off since about 2-3 weeks after.I got mine. Most recently on Wednesday on 10.3.3. Mine takes about 45 seconds to 1 minute to respond though. It usually happens while in Procreate and the touch screen keyboard.

Next time click the on off button and then on off button again to light up the screen.

Ok, this happened today on my iPP 12.9 2017. I have had the iPad since mid July. It happened once or twice weeks ago, but now twice this week. Also, I have noticed the touch issue. Sometimes I need to touch twice to make a link work.

So, Is this a software issue or Is this a in Apple store return??? Not sure.

hi, I have 2 IPPs 10.5 bought earlier this month.

1. Running iOS 11beta - within a day of 11, won't wake up after I switched it off and tried switching on. blank screen of death. 100%battery.

I could hear the charge ding sound when I inserted the cable but only a blank screen. Home button not responsive even holding it. Had to do hard reset (home + on/off) and the screen reappeared. Closing and opening cover won't work for me. till date no issues. I felt it is better to not switch it off and on anyhow.

2. Running iOS 10.3.3 - smooth as butter. No issues.

I concur it should be a software issue. Probably revert back to 10 and wait for the official ota 11 update then.

Happened a few times on my 10.5”, on 10.3.2 and now the 11 public beta.

Public beta been great so far, a few resprings, the odd stuck icon that needs a reboot to be rid of, but otherwise surprisingly reliable. Very glad I put it on, iPad really shines with it.

Sticking with 10.3.x on my phone though, can’t risk it, and the 11 update is hardly mind blowing for the phone anyway. Which I’m fine with, it’s the iPad that was in desperate need of a great os update.

[doublepost=1503087432][/doublepost]I have a new iPad pro2, 10 inch wifi that will not wake if it sits for more than 12 hours.
On my second one. Returned the first one when even a hard reset wouldn't wake it.
