Was at Walmart getting a flushot and brought my iPad so I could use it while I was waiting. This happened to me there and so I had to do a force shut off because it wasn’t doing anything for like 2 minutes :/

I sure hope this isn’t hardware as I don’t have Apple Care and so I don’t have anything past year one. I may end up getting Apple Care if future iOS versions don’t fix it.

Seems to have stopped for me as well since the GM. I didn’t have it happen very often though, so we’ll see.

Sorry peeps, just had the thing where the pad unlocks but the screen doesn't come on with the iOS 11 GM.
Dang, well maybe it fixed it for some anyways.

We should all be doing that to ensure visibility instead of it being considered an isolated event.

It's strange.. my iPad seems to go through phases where it will act up several times in a day, then it's fine for days on end. Like it gets in a bad mood or something.

Yup, this is my experience as well and I'm not expecting iOS 11 to change this.

I am so glad I found this. I too have been having the problem of the screen not turning on and it just happened for the first time with iOS11. I don’t have a Smart Cover and always use the home button to wake up my iPad.

I have found that when this happens, I can push the sleep/wake button and will hear the lock sound like it had been awake. Pushing the home button afterwards has always had the expected results (never had two failures in a row, yet). So it would seem that the iPad is waking up, but just not activating the screen. At least, in my case. I do use Touch ID and purposefully made sure I left my finger on there for the unlock to happen to see if the iPad was working and the screen just not coming on.

I installed the iOS 11 upgrade when it come out on Tuesday and so far I haven’t had any backlight not turning on issue. But the non-responsive touch issue seems to persist. Starting to think it might be a hardware issue. If its software, then it apparently hasn’t been addressed in iOS 11.

Exactly what I get - at least helps convince me it's software and not hardware! I'll file a Radar when I feel like writing one up.

I’ve had the same issues since June/July in my 1st gen iPP 12.9. I bought it in Nov’2015 so my warranty is almost over and was just about to take it back to service but the issue has stopped since 1-2 weeks ago, and now that i’ve found this thread i feel relieved... hopefully it’s just a sw issue. Let’s see if iOS 11.0.1 fixes it, so far with iOS 11 since Tuesday and still no issues.

If you're getting it on a 1st gen iPad Pro that seals it as software. I could imagine (unlikely though it is) a potential shared hardware issue between the A10X-toting 10.5 and 12.9 Pros but not between the A9X and A10X Pros.
