Today or tomorrow would make sense, especially to take away from Google’s event. Saying that tho they might not even care about the Google event, I imaging Tim and Johnny Ive laughing as they watched it. The pixel slate isn’t even going to touch the iPad Pro in my opinion.
Funny thing is it barely competes (IMO) with the current iPad Pros, and they're about to get a whole lot better.

Today would have been great timing for invites to go out, just enough to get the story running everywhere while Google is doing their Pixel event.

Yes, but it would be a little petty. Also, there is the risk of being overshadowed because of how much press attention the Google event is getting. Tomorrow would be awesome :)

I'm beginning to doubt whether there will actually be an October event at all. Hopefully I'm wrong, but with Tim traveling to China this week, Brussels the second week after that, Halloween the week after that... I'm just not sure.

We've ALWAYS had October events, but something tells me we're looking at the last week in October, or perhaps our first November event.

Just a question why are most people assuming that the iPad will not be available for orders direct after an possible event? The iPad 2018 and the 2017 iPad pros could be ordered immediately.

2015 and 2017 did not have events in October.

I thought there was a waiting period like most Apple releases. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You aren’t the first person to mention it, but Halloween has NO impact on whether there will be an “event” that week.

Sort of. I highly doubt they would have an event ON Halloween, but the day before and the day after are certainly fair game. (Except, as previously mentioned, the day after won't happen since that's earnings day.)

Edit: Well I'll be darned!

I imagine it’s more of a 12.1 iOS thing. These iPads are likely running a beta version. Black Friday is the real deadline. I’d expect it in plenty of time for the marketing to begin. Early nov wouldn’t surprise me.

Is electric vehicle big enough for you?
https://www.techradar.com/news/wireless-electric-vehicle-charging

Who says that the wireless charging pad needs to be the size of an iPad?

It wouldn’t HAVE to be as big or bigger but generally these wireless charging pads have to be bigger than the device they are meant to charge to make it easier to get the induction coils lined up properly so it charges the device. If it’s smaller than the iPad can you imagine how annoying it would be to get it lined up just right?

Wireless charge can also work from a distance, easily let’s say a few feet. That’s what it really meant to do. But it could still be 2-5 years away for an iPad. Next year, 2019 there should be allready smaller gadgets that uses real wireless distance charge. After that it will be for a bigger devices such as iPhones, iPads and electric cars.

Sigh. Just release it. Getting impatient. Although my Mini 2 has gotten a breath of life with iOS 12. Almost usable again but still leaving me wanting more. I could prob be happy with a current 10.5 but I've been waiting so long for this mythical release it feels sad to give up now.

Ah, the trials of a fanboy.

Agreed. I couldn’t care less about the event. Personally I wish they would just do a press release and let us buy the things. But I know Apple would never allow that to happen with such a big update. Hopefully we’ll see the invites go out tomorrow, otherwise the odds of an event in October are rather slim.
