The 9to5mac article says there will be 2 SKUs of each model.

Does that mean the inevitable price hike will at least coincide with 64GB storage being retired?

Maybe it's going to be 128GB and 512GB?

Wifi and cellular versions probably. It would be great to see Apple drop 64GB and introduce a 1TB option.

It says that there’s 8 total model numbers. 2 models for each size of iPad on WiFi only and 2 models for each size on WiFi + LTE.

I’m really hoping that it is down to two storage size options with 128gb being the smallest because that would be plenty for me. My current IPP is 128gb and I have way more room than I need in it. I’d like to be able to buy the cheaper version of something for once lol. Although I’ll gladly pay for the larger size if the smaller one sells out in five nanoseconds like typical of product launches. Just want the damn thing already.

The 256Gb is a sweet spot for me - would hate to see it dropped and forced to pay more for the next size up - 512GB? Will see what materialises and prices before contemplating an upgrade but if there is another price hike then I'm likely to stick with last years models for another year at least as they are great iPads (10.5 & 12.9).

Definitely nice to see some rumours surface around the new iPad Pro. Really curious as to when we’ll see an announcement.

so 6 more hours until invites could be send

Not necessarily true. They do send them out before 10am pacific sometimes. For instance, the invites for last months event were sent out at around 9am on August 30th. I was bored the other night, as well as curious, so I went back through all the macrumors main articles until I found it. It was reported here at like 9:07 am here that day.

so it could be 3 or 4 more hours...lets wait and see...i was thinking about 10 am because Apple wants to take some attention from the Google event

Or they send invites out tomorrow or Thursday, there is plenty of time!

Have there been any details on the future of the 3.5mm audio socket on the iPads? This is something I use when doing video editing or working in Garageband on the iPad Pro due to latency issues and Apple Airpods don't get round this issue. Losing this socket would be a big loss for the iPads if it happens.

The leaks sound interesting about the new pencil

That along with presumably a new AV out adapter and SD Card reader along with a new case could make it an expensive transition from the current Pros. I'm not one for the ASK but this will also be a necessary upgrade for many. Hope Apple keep their pricing sensible.

I get the feeling that 3.5mm headphone port will stick around for a while on these 'Pro' devices. iMacs, MacBooks, iPad Pro.. Even the Macbook, when that new design came in 2015 and the big deal was that it had a single USB-C port for everything, there was still a headphone port on the opposite side.

It may not come in the next model or the one after that, but wireless charge is coming 100% sure.

It never stops to amaze me how narrow minded some folks are when it comes down to new technology. Were you one of those people back in 2013 who said 4” iPhone is the absolute max size anyone could ever need or want?

Have you seen any devices use this technology that are significantly bigger than a mobile phone?

No kidding...imagine how big the charging pad would have to be. No thanks.

That was my thought as well. But maybe those who are so strongly believing it’s coming nevertheless could explain to us how big they’d like their devices before they call others names.

I was just looking at the thread in the main news sub-forum and invites so far for October events have always gone out on Tuesday (for the following Tuesday) or Wednesday (for the following Wednesday or Thursday). So if it follows that same trend and there's going to be an event next week then we should see the invites go out no later than tomorrow.

Until Apple break the trend, we could see them tomorrow or Thursday. Maybe even today.

Anything can happen, I was just pointing out the past trends. Thursday invites are a possibility but not as good of a possibility as today or tomorrow for an event next week.

Today or tomorrow would make sense, especially to take away from Google’s event. Saying that tho they might not even care about the Google event, I imaging Tim and Johnny Ive laughing as they watched it. The pixel slate isn’t even going to touch the iPad Pro in my opinion.

Not with ChromeOS. Why are they even still trying to push ChromeOS in the first place?
