Every time I go into the Apple store I always explore all the various products, and every single time I see the 12.9 iPad I’m shocked at how big it is...

Each time I use mine I am shocked how people can feel shocked from just using it.

I dunno - for an event early next week? I wonder.

My guess is we’ll see an event maybe on Oct 30.

Yea more than enough time, Apple usually sends out the invites 7-8 days before the October events. They did the same at their last October event which was in 2016.

Someone else noted that Tim Cook will be out of the country on October 24th, so that week is probably out of the question. The following week is Halloween, which if I were Apple I wouldn't do it that week either. It is most likely leaning to an event next Tuesday (October 16th) or Wednesday (October 17th) with invites going out tomorrow or Wednesday this week. It would be good timing for Apple to send the invites out tomorrow before the Google Pixel Event or right after.

All lining up nicely...

My wishes for the next 12.9 inch model are:

-OLED display
-wireless charge
-bezel/weight reduce

I don’t feel the need for an update until those features come along...
Major image retention is why I won't do an OLED screen bigger than an iPhone. OLED looks good but is not the best display technology, despite what people think. Micro LED is a better technology that Apple and Samsung have actually working on for years. It's superior to OLED, it produces the same black levels, great viewing angles, is less expensive than OLED, it's slimmer, brighter, and will not get image burn-in. I'll wait for that, OLED is not worth it to me.

Kallum.

Agreed - we have two 12.9" in the family and they make the knockabout iPad Air we keep around for laughs feel like a Mini...

The 12' IPP is so thin, I just don't find it unwieldy.

I wonder if USB C on the iPad might mean native support for a dual screen setup with a Mac... Duet is good but no doubt a native MacOS/iOS client would be more seamless and offer better performance when using touch input on the iPad whilst it’s connected to the Mac.

"Further, we can confirm that Face ID on the new iPad Pro will work in both portrait and landscape orientations"

"It’s not clear if the new landscape support requires a special hardware feature, or if it can be made available to iPhones with a simple software update."
^This would be massive if possible.

:D

Just hoping it comes out this month..new apple pencil, new smart keyboard, my money is ready :)

“The new iPad Pro will have a brand new connector for accessories. The Magnetic Connector will be at the back of the iPad and will allow for the connection of different accessories, such as a new version of the Smart Keyboard and other third-party accessories.”

Could mean ASK with a cover for the back of the device (with integrated magnetic connector)? That would be welcome - the case is a key element of the iPad proposition and Apple’s current options are a bit underwhelming IMO.

I’ve been holding off because work is buying me an iPad of my choice. No budget iPad for this guy!

This wait has felt interminable. Can’t wait to get a new 12.9 with pencil.

I just hope Apple just release the new iPads in a news release and not do a presentation with the media and then wait a whole week to offer it for sale online and then another week for physical sales to take place. That is two weeks after the presentation to get the new iPads. So we are talking about last week in October possibly!

No reason to panic if there are no invites tomorrow. Event could still be on the 18th with invites Wednesday. After that, due to Tim’s Belgium preoccupation, the only other conceivable date would be the 30th.

Whether the next display technology is some sort of oled or micro-led, it will be far more superior than current LCD-TFT. I can’t stand the horrible viewing angles and shadow effect on a lcd displays, so I wouldn’t by any mobile device with it anymore.

I understand the limits of a wireless charge, especially with current lithium batteries, on a larger devices, but it will all change for sure in the future. Weather or not it is worth waiting for is another thing. It could be anything from 1 to 10 years but it is certainly coming even the for the larger devices.

All of these rumours lead me to believe it will be a very expensive device, but then as others have said surely they won’t push it into Mac price territory...?

Wireless charge on a 12.9 device? Very unlikely

It may not come in the next model or the one after that, but wireless charge is coming 100% sure.

It never stops to amaze me how narrow minded some folks are when it comes down to new technology. Were you one of those people back in 2013 who said 4” iPhone is the absolute max size anyone could ever need or want?

Not going to happen, the new iPad Pro's are going to be a redesign with rumoured features (see the 9to5 Mac article) such as Face ID working in both landscape and portrait, magnetic connector, USBC and new accessories including a new Apple Pencil. There is no way that Apple won't want to get on stage and show it off.

There is plenty of time for an event, invites could easily go out sometime this week for an event next week (16th or 17th for example). For the October events Apple typically gives 7-8 days notice, it's not like the iPhone events where they send out invites 2 weeks before or WWDC where invites are sent out way ahead of time.

The 9to5mac article says there will be 2 SKUs of each model.

Does that mean the inevitable price hike will at least coincide with 64GB storage being retired?

Maybe it's going to be 128GB and 512GB?
