Touch Nano

Clearly, the Yellow Submarine iPod's time has come.
But what of those "new features"?

Seriously - those 2.8" touch screens that showed up during the recent iPhone speculation, would fit perfectly within the current Nano form factor.

Would be cool if they could keep it as thin as the current Nano!

BUT now that the iPhone has made it to the rest of the earth, what interest is there? You'll always want your phone with you. You might as well have an iPod inside it.

And it's not too small for fingers.

Some people don't have and don't want a phone. Others don't want an iPhone, for whatever reason. The iPod gives them a way to get the iPhone without the phone.

more mockups :)

I don't know about patterns, but I can see a subtle color-to-black/silver or color-to-color gradient being interesting. For example, instead of plain red, it fades from red to purple or to orange or from a darker red to a more vibrant red.

That would be nice, more of a subtle change in colour none of that hippy crap :p

When Apple runs out of ideas or a way to milk something, they add more colors. Sorry guys, but that is lame.:(

They haven't ran out of ideas, the ipod nano is a small music and video player, how would you change it? It seems to be a big hit the way it is, adding more colour would be a sensible move

I hope this rumour stays just that. I think if iPods ever became multi-coloured then they would look hideous. That being said, if there's anyone who could make a multi-coloured design look good, it's Apple.
Don't know if its been said, but it appears that the iPod event is 17th-20th Sep, with new products being released on the 17th.

- Retro white iPod nano
- Drawn-on screen (and invisible click wheel) that makes it look like a small iPod touch when off
- Brown iPod nano
- Beige iPod nano
- Neon colors and metallic colors
- Camouflage colors iPod nano
- iPod nano with big :apple: logo on the back
- Sun + sky + grass nature-themed iPod nano
- Futuristic techno city themed iPod nano

Flames. One choice has to be flames.. y'know, flames make the iPod go faster, load faster :)

Oooh wait... maybe like the automobile colorshift colors, where the color reflect light, changing the color appearance depending on the angle of the viewer.:D

Those flower power and blue Dalmatian patterns look way better on the nano than they ever did on iMac.

hmmm, maybe more mood ring like, pulsing colors to music etc...

anyone remember this apple patent filing from a few years ago...

"The invention pertains to electronic devices capable of dynamically changing their ornamental or decorative appearance, i.e., the outer appearance as seen by a user. The electronic devices generally include an illuminable housing. The illuminable housing, which includes at least one wall configured for the passage of light, is configured to enclose, cover and protect a light arrangement as well as functional components of the electronic device. The light arrangement, which generally includes one or more light sources, is configured to produce light for transmission through the light passing wall(s) of the illuminable housing. The transmitted light illuminates the wall(s) thus giving the wall a new appearance. That is, the transmitted light effectively alters the ornamental or decorative appearance of the electronic device. In most cases, the light is controlled so as to produce a light effect having specific characteristics or attributes. As such, the electronic device may be configured to provide additional feedback to the user of the electronic device and to give users the ability to personalize or change the look of their electronic device on an on-going basis. That is, a housing of the electronic device is active rather than passive, i.e., the housing has the ability to adapt and change. For example, the light may be used to exhibit a housing behavior that reflects the desires or moods of the user, that reflects inputs or outputs for the electronic device, or that reacts to tasks or events associated with operation of the electronic device."

Now that looks nice

also some people already have a phone that they are happy with. Apple will go down if they stop making ipods and just made the iphone. NOT EVERYONE WANTS/NEEDS A PHONE!!!

another good shot

theres always room for improvement kid....

I wonder if they will make the apple logo on back light up like the laptops. I hope this isnt true to be honest. I want a professional looking video/music player with out bunch of childish colors. If the defalut is sliver and black and you can add face plates then i'm sold. I'll be happy but apple doesnt want to target bunch of 13 year olds who wine if they cant get what they want they want to target all age groups. Even if a 65 year old woman isnt the type you'll see with an ipod, there are 65 year old woman who listen to music on ipods... and I'm sure she doesnt want a bight yellow, lime green and neon blue ipod

like this... light blue into darker blue (that would be a change in color)

That's kinda what I had in mind, but from darker to mid range. Or of course from color-to-color (here's my quickie try, showing the effect done with a color-to-color option that hopefully Apple will pass up)

I doubt very much there trying to target us "kids". They might not even be childish colours, if you want a professional one buy the ipod classic or ipod touch, the recent ipod nano's have always had a colour range
