Is anyone using the case without the "optional scratch guard"?

So far I haven't installed the "optional scratch guard" on mine. I'm still a bit nervous about leaving the screen unprotected, but I also hate having anything cover the screen. I use a belt clip for my phone, so it's not like it would wind up in my pocket with grit or anything.

I dunno. I may go ahead and install it, or possibly purchase a higher quality screen protector and cut it down, but we'll see. For now I'm still going with a naked screen.

----------

My OCD is working overdrive, and I may end up buying a spigen crystal clear screen protector, then cutting it to fit the whole screen.

HOWEVER, there is the running into cutting too big a size that will overlap with the seal, which may affect its water-poofness..

Unless you accidentally damage the seal when you apply the screen protector, or you somehow manage to slip the screen protector under the seal I don't think you need to worry too much about water-proofness. The concern I would have with a screen protector that was cut a little too big would be that it would ride up on the seal a bit and you would get air bubbles under it. I think you might have a hard time cutting *exactly* the same size as the exposed screen and you're probably better off with a tiny boarder around the edges.

Yeah I did. Still works like mine did with the fre. Even though it is a slight bit thicker, still seems to hold in there the same as the fre did which is good enough.

----------

By the way, I use this holder which seems to work well enough. They make one similar to this one for rugged cases which would probably hold it a bit better though, but I don't think it is necessary.

They do make one specifically for the LifeProof fre as well though, which would probably work well with the nuud too, but not sure.

I use this one, but regretting it since the top only allows so much space. Too bad the LP model doesn't have a charging option.

Yep looks great. Can't even really tell it is on there. No rainbow effect or anything.

i am using an invisisheild hd protector on my iphone 5. i s/w lifeproof, and that protector cannot stay on the phone, or it will lose its waterproof seal. I am reluctant to take it off b/c i really do like it.

I was wondering how the lifeproof protector compares in terms of quality?

I did using the powersupport protector in the past, and it had a glass-like appearance, which made it hard to see plus very smooth. I tend not to like the glare-reducing protectors.

Eh, while I've definitely tried worse quality screen protectors than the one provided with the Nuud case, it still falls short.

I have to admit, the only screen protector that I've truly found a pleasure to use, were glass models- specifically the tempered glass protector from Bodyguardz.

I've also heard of people actually getting a tiny spec under their plastic screen protector and then later removing the protector only to find a scratch. I honestly think it just depends on how rough you are with the phone. Regardless of the situation, as long as you aren't around sand, there should be no concern of scratching the screen itself. Also, "scratch guard" or not, sand is still going to be the bane of the Nuud because its gonna make the scratch guard look like poo and scratch the crap out of it, or it's going to get in those tiny cracks between the rubber seal and the scratch guard and destroy the gorilla glass.

Bottom line- I love the case however, am opting to interact directly with the glass. The waterproof/dirt proof/shock proof, and snow proof factors coupled with the direct interaction with the screen is enough to make me a happy customer :)

The problem is not cutting it "exactly" the same size, it's cutting it more but "enough" to where it covers the "majority" of the screen while not slip under the seal.

That in itself will be a difficult task :)

It would definitely be hard to go from having a screen protector and not worrying to much about scratching the screen to using nothing and constantly worrying about it. I tried keeping the invisishield on w the fre, but having 2 protectors on the phone looked horrible.

I did it I got a screen protector and cut it a little bigger than the one provided by lifeproof. Still has a slim border so it doesn't go under the seal, but I'm happy with it.

Don't know if you can see the cut, but I used a spigen screen protector, and used the one LP gave with case as a template. And cut it little bigger.

What did u use to cut it with?

Did it cut straight?

And how much of the screen is now exposed?

A pair of non serrated scissors. The top and bottom dont have any space but the side has a tiny gap on each side.

I may do it to, but may go to fedex and use one of their "guillotine" paper cut tools to get it as straight as possible :)

bTW does anyone know of a retail store that sells spigen screen protectors?

Are you guys really that worried about the screen? With the glass receding so far into the case, there is no way a drop is going to damage the screen in a way that a screen protector would otherwise save it. The only thing I would be worried about would be if a small child got it and started taking sharp objects to it lol.

The screen will definitely become scratched over time without some sort if screen protection.

That is not true. I had no screen protector on my iPhone 5 since release and have no screen protector, and have zero scratches. If they were so easy to scratch then Apple would not be selling the iPhone without a screen protector.

Not nec.to debate this, but a search if the forum and the web suggests otherwise. If you have no scratches, you have been very fortunate.

Ok whatever man. I have had the iPhone 3G, 4, and 5 and never ever gotten scratched. That is not fortunate.

I guess today is the day that the majority of BBs got inventory of this as I see a lot online pop up with pickup for today..

Went to a local BB and they had like 7 blacks, only 2 had straight home buttons and was lucky to snatch one of them :)

Now I'm gonna return the white one...

QC on this one :(

That's actually a good idea. Do it and post pics when you've done it, I wanna see how they turn out.

----------

Oh and BTW the argument of whether a screen protector helps or not is a waste of an argument. Some people use them for peace of mind. If you don't wanna use them don't. Why start an argument about it? Plus any things possible scratches do happen.

How did the screen protector look as you were cutting it?

Did it cut through pretty smoothly?

Yeah it did actually, but like I said don't use scissors that have a serrated blade, otherwise you'll ruin the screen protector and the edges won't look smooth.
My suggestion if you don't wanna use scissors or have access to a "guillotine"
Is to use a razor blade, that will prob be the best way to make it absolutely straight besides the "guillotine".

Finally found one at a local Best Buy. This would be my third Lifeproof case, and gotta say its awesome, I love the look and feel of the screen, coupled with the protection of the case. Best case yet.

Just picked up my Black Nuud case from the Best Buy in Menifee CA. So far a huge improvement over the Fre case. Better sound quality, and being able to touch the screen directly was definately something I forgot was so nice to do. I will be using a rear protective film that's supposed to be applied to the back of the iphone, to the back of the Nuud to help avoid scuffing the back up. Water test up next!

So have any owners if the nuud tried it yet with a tempered glass screen protector already applied? Just wondering because I have a glass protector and haven't heard anyone mention it yet

I asked a day or so ago, but I don't think anyone has tried it yet.
