For those with the problem of people not hearing you (the far away sound people on the other line describe), I had that issue on my Fre (it went back), Seidio Obex (went back), and then the Nuud.

I also have (and am keeping as a back up case) the OB Armor. That is a tank of a case! One thing it has is a small access for the rear mic between the camera lens and flash. I never had someone complain when I was using that case.

Fast forward to the Nuud (which I love), and I read about a trick to try. I had read to turn Hearing Aid mode on (it is under accessibility in General settings). I turned that on a few days ago and no one has complained! My wife complained when I first put the case on about the "far away sound". Not since I turned Hearing Aid mode on.

My guess is hearing aid mode must disable some kind of noise cancel that the back mic is utilized for?

No complaints on the other end of a call, I am keeping the case! My wife has the Fre (but mainly uses BT in the car), and she turned it on as well. Since then, I have not had issues hearing her.

Hope this helps.

Mine never seperated or came out and mine was also the mic side. It was like it was smashed down and it was either that way out of the package or I caused it when putting it on because I realized it within a couple of hours of the case being on. When I realligned it, the membrane/glue slid with it into place. I held it there for a bit with the tweezers to be sure it was going to stay and it did. So, I placed my phone back in the case and am hoping that the phone is now holding it where it should be. I haven't taken the case off again to be sure though. If you are in doubt, I would exchange it. I'm feeling pretty confident with my repair and I just happen to have a case with a straight home button so I'm scared I may not be that lucky with an exchange. I'll check mine once I get home and I may exchange it later in the week once my BB gets more stock in now that I know what to look for as a potential issue.

I'm pretty sure my re-positioning of the gasket fixed the issue. Test call tonight was much better.

Thanks much for the help!

Steve

At first I thought mine was tight but a quick way to check is to tap it lightly. If there is a little movement or play, it may be on the lose side. Just wanted to confirm prior to another trip to Best Buy.

Honestly giving it a little love tap and it's completely solid. It is a bit crooked though, I definitely don't have the "perfect" model! The crooked button is my only gripe and it's still the best case I've used.

My home button sticks up from the case a bit, but still is the best case I have ever had on a phone. Love it.

Wow... I'm not sure what this setting actually does, but it made a huge difference for me and my wife. It's much easier to hear someone speaking into a nuud case with the hearing aid mode on.

Thanks for posting this,

I have not had any problems with the Nuud and this kind of feedback, but on the Fre, the short humming noise that happened when dialing and sometime when talking was ended completely by turning the hearing aid mode on. It is some kind of audio feedback.

What I was seeing was that when I (or my wife) was using the Nuud case and speaking into the phone people on the other end would sometimes have a hard time hearing us. After quite a bit of experimenting I found that as long as I kept the phone mic very close to my mouth it sounded find, but if I moved the phone more than an inch or so away from my mouth audio quality would drop off very quickly and I would sound very quiet and far away.

Once I enabled hearing aid mode I'm now able to put the phone several inches from my mouth and people have no trouble hearing me on the other end. I have no idea what hearing aid mode changes, but it sounds like maybe it should be renamed to hearing aid/lifeproof mode;)

Based on some brief research, HA mode turns off the background noise cancellation feature.

Glad it helped. I have read the same thing about it turning off noise cancellation. Makes sense that if that mic on the back is utilized for that, it can create issues for both the user of the phone and the person they are talking to.

I have had no complaints since turning it on. Probably would still have the Fre if I would have known about this then. Since I really liked the Nuud, I just dug deeper on the Net looking for info.

Just got the case in the mail from Best Buy. The home button is only slightly crooked, but it is loose. Did a water test with the mock iPhone, and water got underneath the home button, but not under the seal.

I turned off the noise canceling microphone and people can hear me really well. Haven't tried it with it on, so I'll test that out as well.

overall though, I am enjoying the case. We'll see if the dust in the corners gets too much for me, although I think i can just blow it out.

With the dust in the corners all you need to do is run the case and phone under the sink and wash it out. I used a Q-tip to get anything the water could not and for the cuts on the front. Worked great.

Should I worry about the front panel being loose on the bottom right? Also should I be worried about the home button being loose?

I don't plan on submerging the phone ever. Only reason I got the case was accidental contact with water, and so I could use it in the rain while working.

Just a peace of mind case really.

The home button feeling a bit loose is a common issue. The home button is just glued onto a silicon membrane, so it has a bit of play. The play seems to be worse on some cases than others, but the membrane is what seals the case, so you don't have to worry about leakage from a loose feeling home button.

I've seen a few people complain the the case doesn't seem to quite come together correctly on the bottom right. Mine seems to have a very tiny gap there, but I don't think i would have noticed it if I wasn't looking for it. As long as your case passes the water test then this shouldn't be a concern either.

The only problem I'd have with the home button being so loose and jutting out, is when I do stick it in my pocket I'd be afraid it'd rip off over time or if it accidentally gets caught on anything. Other than that I feel secure with the case.

I was at BB yesterday debating on whether or not I should exchange the nuud I had with another one that didnt have as big a lift on the top of the home button as mine:D

But then I realized that, eventually after a prolong usage, it will become loose anyways due to the silicone gasket stretching, so there's really no point...

On another note, what do you guys think of this:

I dont know if the guy was pissed at LP for his previous experience so he incorrectly installed the nuud to make consumers scared of purchasing one, or if it was defective, but it kinda raised my eyebrow to think that it could have damaged someone's phone...

To me, it's kind of unique to have lifeproof state they have test the waterproof capability of the nuud before shipment, and to see it fail in this video raises some questions...

Ok I guess this Is my first post to this site and sorry if I'm going about this the wrong way. But I need to chime in

Yesterday I went to the White Water in Atlanta. While there of course I had to put the Nuud to work and I found that it held up quite well pics and video came out quite well. The occasional water in the lens area fogged up a few pics but that's it. Now I have had my Nuud for 3 days and no problem but this morning, when making phone calls I it's seems that I was muffled quite bad and the other callers couldn't hear me.
I took off the case to make sure it wasn't the phone and it wasn't. I put the case back on and there it was again. I took just the back off and still same problem.

Don't know what is causing this so I just threw my fre back on and it worked.

Also just to check I put the back of the fre on with the front of the Nuud and same issue. When looking deeper into I see that this could be a problem but not sure. At the inside bottom of the front on the Nuud there is a small square that I believe is for the mic and it seems that the foam around it has shifted and closed up the mic hole. ( now how could that be because I have not taken the phone out of the case and it worked fine for the past 2 days.)

Not sure what to do from here besides swap out the case. But if that little issue easily happened without me removing the case not sure if I want to keep it.
It is a very likable case though.

Kind of a scary video, but it's hard to know how scared to be without knowing why the case failed... whether it was an installation problem or a bad case. Although I will say that despite the fact that lifeproof tests them before they are sent out I still water tested my case before trusting my phone with it. It doesn't take that long to do the water test and certainly gives me a bit more peace of mind.

Someone else a couple of pages back in this thread reported the same issue with the foam around the microphone hole. From your pictures it looks like it's out of place a bit, but it certainly doesn't appear to be covering the hole... unless you had already moved it back.

The other thing you can try is to turn on hearing aid mode (Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing Aids) Apparently this disables a noise cancellation feature and for me and a number of other people it made a big difference with people being able to hear me while I'm on a call.

Hey guys, I currently have an Otterbox Armor. I'm an electrician and was wondering if you all think its durable enough to be used on job sites or possibly cop a bit of abuse? I'm mostly concerned about the included screen protector not covering the entire screen.

Cheers!

Thanks I tried changing the hearing aid settings and still no luck. I compared it to my fre case and yes on the Nuud it's slightly off but I honestly don't want to touch it now. But I will anyway and report back later.

On another note. After using the Nuud lately the fre does sound muffled

I think it will be just fine to take a beating here or there. And what the screen protector doesn't cover the case will.

So I was looking at that video again. Are you not suppose to test the case in the sink with an object on top of it? Not in the pool?

I think they suggest testing in the sink primarily because it's easier... people would probably complain if they had to hold the case down in a pool for 30 minutes to test it;). However, I would certainly expect the test 'phone' to withstand anything that I would want to do with my actual phone. And in the pool doesn't seem unreasonable.

The only potential issue I see with that video is that the case is only rated for 6.6 feet of water, and conceivably he could have pushed it down deeper, although quite frankly, I would expect the case to stay dry even in 8 or 9 feet of water.

Yea I was just thinking the pool might be too deep. I thought that is why they recommend the sink. No bodies sink is more than 6.6 feet I would think. I am not sure this guy did everything right. First of all we don't know how deep the pool was. Second we have no idea how he put the case together. Did he make sure the headphone seal was tight? Did he make sure all the edges were clicked in correctly? Also it seems this guy may have had something against LP before he started. He seemed to jump right to never buying another case from them real fast. I don't know just did not seem like a very good test, or at least we don't have enough info to know what he did.

That shouldn't matter.. Water is water, its made for swimming.. Its just a matter of did he go below 6 feet with it, which I don't think he did..

Honestly, I wonder if he was missing that back seal like we seen someone else say
